So I started reading the Cold Start Problem on Friday and completely addicted at the moment!
I would really love to know how you guys got your first users? Did you go in the streets shouting? Did you use any growth hacking tactics?
For B2C, I usually go with social media / community platforms to get the initial users. (Reddit, Quora, Twitter, Facebook Groups, Slack Groups, etc)
1. Identify the right communities
2. Create immediate value for them by either creating content they might like, or answering key questions in the community.
3. Engage until you have developed enough reputation in the community for giving value, and then start asking for it with your CTA
4. Repeat with other communities.
NOTE: NEVER ask people for signing up to your product without creating value for them first. And even when you ask, keep it organic rather than being pushy. Always helps to ask people to sign up and provide feedback.
This usually helps me to reach out to early adopters and actually be close to the users in order to get immediate feedback.
Especially in B2C, it's difficult to keep direct contact with users once you start scaling, so the early stages are really when you should try to get as much qualitative feedback as possible.
Once you have enough users from this channel, you can start looking at the retention rate, start segmenting by different user properties to understand which user segment retains more, and then move on to more scalable channels to find more users from the segment that sticks.
our professional network played a critical role in the early success of our startup, Klu.so. Also, we did utilize the power of social media, specifically Twitter that did wonders for us :)
@jean_gatt yes, ofcourse :) sooo what we did first days was, we engaged with our target audience on TW, like commenting on their posts, joined the disccusion, sharing their content ect.
After we had their attention, we slowly started introducing our product and engagement and feedback we got was very high.
Reach out to influencers and ask for their help in promoting your product or service, as well as any discounts or offers you have available.
Make use of existing networks: Tap into contacts from previous work experiences, personal relationships, and social media followings who might be interested in what you offer.
Take advantage of free or low-cost advertising options such as Google Ads and Social Media Ads.
Use SEO techniques to ensure that your website is search engine optimized, so potential customers can easily find it when searching online.
Leverage content marketing campaigns, such as creating helpful articles, how-to videos, attractive visuals, and engaging blog posts to get the word out about your business and attract more users.
Run promotional contests on social media where participants enter by sharing content related to your product across their networks – this will help spread the word faster than traditional approaches!7. Reach out directly to potential customers through email campaigns or even direct mailers that explain why they should choose you over competitors.. Good luck!
