Building an Audience Before Launch – Does It Really Matter?

Some startups launch on Product Hunt without an audience and rely purely on organic reach. Others spend months nurturing a community before going live. But what actually works?

We’re in the middle of building our pre-launch audience and here’s what we’re testing:

  • Engaging in Twitter and Reddit discussions about our niche.

  • Building relationships with founders who’ve launched before.

  • Sharing our progress log and lessons along the way.

Some say early engagement makes a huge difference, others say it’s overrated. What’s been your experience?

Twitter is great but need to know the right person to comment on.
Sharing progress log works also great in case you are tough enough to stay focused and do not lose motivation.

Reddit is awful nowadays, no way newbies can get anything out of this platform.

I think it really depends on the product. If it’s something super niche, early community building is gold. But for more general tools, we’ve seen good results just by putting together regular Product Hunt posts and launching them at the right time.
