Gonna go against the grain here, but if you are adding value, then missing a day here or there (thus breaking the streak) is probably not going to matter. The streak is just PH's way of getting you to contribute as much as possible.
@petethewiz Pete :) Here's my point of view: People do nothing without self-interest. Even when actions appear selfless, they often fulfil a personal need or desire. This is evident in the concept of being a good community member. While it may seem altruistic, individuals typically engage in such behaviours because it brings them some form of benefit, whether immediate or long-term.
At its core, every action we take is motivated by a desire for something in return. This could be a sense of satisfaction, recognition, or the assurance of future reciprocity. For instance, by being helpful and supportive within a community, an individual can build a network of allies and resources that they might need later.
The idea of pure selflessness is a myth; even the most seemingly selfless acts are performed because they provide the doer with something valuable, whether it's emotional, psychological, or material.
I do think it is. Especially if, as you rightly said, they're bringing value. But more importantly, I think no one should beat themselves up for losing it when they can just start again, as many times as they need to.
It’s not just about the streak itself but also about staying active and contributing valuable insights. It’s definitely a key factor in staying relevant.
It is just a fancy number... with that said, you linked me to a useful reddit discussion when I asked a question a few days ago, so can confirm you're bringing value!
Consistency on platforms like Product Hunt can build meaningful relationships and credibility within the tech and startup community.
I have completed 325 Days on PH.
That’s an impressive streak, Olena! Consistency is key, but adding real value makes it even better. By the way, SEOPro is launching soon on Product Hunt—check it out!
It would be essential to learn how it changed for people with a streak of more than 100 days. How did it help them gain followers, engagement, recognition, etc.
Such sharing will certainly encourage others to get motivated for longer streaks.
