My love for film photography started with my father’s Canon AE-1—a tool that sparked a lifelong passion. Years later, while shooting more seriously, I noticed a gap: no easy way to log settings, locations, or details for each shot. So, four years ago, I built Datafilm, a tool to help photographers track their frames.
The film community’s feedback shaped it into something truly useful, but one big piece was missing: embedding notes directly into scanned JPEGs. Manually adding metadata in Lightroom or ExifTool wasn’t ideal.
Four months ago, I went full-time to rebuild the app as Frames—faster, more stable, and now with a new macOS app that seamlessly adds metadata to lab or self-scanned JPEGs.
Today, the iPhone app is completely free, and the macOS app offers a 7-day free trial so anyone can try the full workflow before deciding to support the project.
This has always been a passion project, and I’d love your feedback to keep improving it.
