@matthewtwhuang Is there no option to login/signup without Facebook? I don't use (or trust) Facebook, but would love to have a better look at Coop…

Hi @williamwright! Sorry, there currently no option to login/signup without Facebook right now. It is something we plan on adding in the future. I understand you don't use Facebook for various reasons, but I wrote a quick post on why we use Facebook: https://www.thecoopapp.com/faceb...

Thanks @riaface for hunting Coop! I'm excited for people to try it out! (You can get to the beta at https://beta.thecoopapp.com/) We hope to create an easier way for everyone to find and share their interests and passions. We do this by letting users create plans that fit their personalities best, whether that be with a group of a certain size or a certain demographic (age/gender). Currently, one of the best ways to meet people is through MeetUp.com. But if you've tried it, you probably see a high percentage of groups/events that aren't applicable to you, particularly those groups with age ranges. With Coop, you will only see plans that are applicable to you and are not full. Coop is currently in beta and is a bit rough around the edges, but we think it's enough to be usable! We'll add more curation and additional features in the near future! (edit and notifications to be added next!) Check out our blog for more information! https://www.thecoopapp.com/blog/ We'll be more than happy to answer anyone's questions! If you are in the Boston area and/or going to Inbound this week, I would love to discuss Coop or anything you want. You can find me on Coop. #FlyTheCoop Also, don't forget to vote today!!!

@parwinder Hi Parwinder! This could be because of a few things. Did you go through the Facebook login? Did you allow your browser to give Coop your location? What device/browser are you currently on?
Parwinder Bhagat
@matthewtwhuang It never asked me to login or provide location. As soon as I click the link it displays logging in. Im on safari (iOS)
Matthew TW Huang
@parwinder Interesting! Can you email me at Matt@TheCoopApp.com? We'll have to look into that. In the meanwhile, you can try out Coop on another browser on desktop/mobile.

How is this different from Meetup?
Matthew TW Huang
@tomlittrell Good question. The major difference is that you won't see any activities that don't fit your age and gender. Also, you are given the option to restrict certain ages and genders to your plans. This will mean you don't have to sort through all activities that you wouldn't fit in. This can be a bad thing for our user's experience as well; they may assume that there aren't users actively using Coop if there aren't any plans on their screen, but it may be the plans in the area are full or just don't apply to that user. (We're coming up with ways of combating that) MeetUp requires organizers to plan events. Coop allows anyone to create plans; we hope this will allow for more casual/regularly held plans. We want our users to be in situations in which they are most comfortable. MeetUp charges $10-$15/month for each group as well.

Looks like a great app but can't find a plan anywhere around me :( Congrats on the launch, though! @matthewtwhuang
Matthew TW Huang
@davidsfeng hi David! We just launched. To start a community near you, you can create a plan for something you'll like others to join you in and share the link on social media and/or friends!
