Coinbase Wallet - The easiest and most secure crypto wallet

Coinbase Wallet (formerly Toshi) is the #1 mobile Ethereum wallet and Web 3 DApp browser. Wallet makes it easy for you to securely store, send and receive Ether and ERC20 tokens. It also allows you to interact with Web 3 decentralized applications (DApps) powered by Ethereum.

For those unfamiliar, Toshi started as a discovery platform for dapps, a side project (from my outside perspective) for the company. Clearly they're taking it more seriously with this rebrand and relaunch as Coinbase Wallet. This is great news for the ecosystem as today's onboarding and usability of dapps is very poor. The most popular dapps are used by hundreds of people/day (see DappRadar). That's super low. One of the ways Coinbase is solving for some of these challenges is focusing on identity, which is the core of the Facebook's moat and all the products they build. This further explains why David Marcus (exec at Facebook) had to step down from the Coinbase board.

@rrhoover it's good that they allowed the wallet to stay user custodial. I don't know how much of a moat this will be though as dapps could be accessed by other wallets. Unlike Facebook's walled garden. They still have the hurdle of building their userbase. As more compelling dapps get built, it could put pressure on Facebook. Having experience in this space, the new users to cryptocurrency have a hard time understanding self custodial. Lots of support.

I thought this was by Uber when I saw the logo at first...

I’ve been using Toshi (including Toshi Dev) and great to see the progress. dApp browsing went from being a side part of chat bots to first class support. With the addition of Pete (he built Cipher) the team keep doing great things.

For adoption of crypto use (not just hold) then we need big improvements to UX and Coinbase Wallet are doing that. It is one of the easiest places to point new users at to start dApp browsing.

The new branding looks great. As an iOS user blue is better than green.

Sad to say say goodbye to the Toshi name

The Coinbase name will hopefully bring the firehose of users to help accelerate the mobile dApp space.

Pros:

Great product that is always improving. Team are responsive. Now in blue!! Testnet access for development. I recommend to new users.

Cons:

No automagical adding of all tokens and collectibles yet.

A name changed the perception so much! When it was toshi, I couldn't understand it's purpose. Felt it like a transfer app with chat. Now it all makes sense. Keep rocking Coinbase 🙌

But in general it's a nice wallet.

Pros:

The DApp network is nice. The chat too.

Cons:

No notifications for when I receive ether. No Bitcoin yet.

Go Coinbase team!

Thanks @brian_armstrong and @kerncancode, I'm excited to see this help shift the status quo and further enable individuals to access global markets while remaining in control of their personal information. Identity wallets are certainly here to stay...

Seems like this helps solve the "Does your dapp need a wallet?" question that Spencer Noon posited recently, at least for Eth network. Looking forward to similar functionality on privacy-preserving blockchains.

The Play Store link still redirects to "Toshi" for me, old name, old icon, old everything.

This is great. I've been using Token (now Toshi) (now Coinbase Wallet) for a while now and it's been wonderful to see the progress that they've made. I haven't found The One Killer ETH Wallet yet and flip between using Coinbase Wallet, Cipher, Trust Wallet, and Eidoo. The two things holding me back from using Coinbase Wallet all the time are 1) lack of ability to adjust gwei/gas during times of high network congestion and 2) difficulty of discovering wallet switching. Otherwise the dApp browser is great and what got me into using Toshi heavily after the first rebrand. One thing I would say is that calling it Coinbase Wallet is a bit confusing, as Coinbase itself has wallets for BTC, BCH, ETH, LTC, and ETC. It may confuse people to download Coinbase Wallet, only to find that (for now) it only supports ETH, ERC20/ERC721. Perhaps the rebrand is a sign of things to come with multiple wallet handling. 🤔

Just caught this from the blog post about it: "Manage ETH and all your ERC-20 tokens (very soon we’ll be supporting BTC, BCH and LTC)." Awesome.

The UI/UX of the app looks dope. Will surely give it a try. I am from CryptoGround.com. Is there any of team willing to give an interview related to the same? We would love to cover you guys on our portal.

Congratulations to the whole Coinbase team! This is a big and important step forward to the mass adoption of decentralized technologies. I have two questions: - How can a Dapp-developer integrate its Dapp into Coinbase Wallet? Is there a submission process similar to Apples App Store? - What is the difference to status.im?

I've played with Toshi in the past; happy to see that they are taking it more seriously. Why no link to the Play Store though?
