Hey Product Hunt! I’m Brandon Waselnuk, Co-Founder of Codex 😁 👋 Thanks to @mwseibel for hunting us! Here’s why we are here: What is Codex? - Website: https://usecodex.com - Extension: VS Code Marketplace - Demo Video: Codex in a Nutshell Codex is a VS Code extension that allows any engineer to attach comments, questions, notes or any kind of content to specific lines of code. This context follows your code as your team continues to build. Help your team understand your code base at a deeper level. Why us? @karlclement , @saumilp_ and I have been working together for 8 years now shipping over 50 products across the VC fund we worked at, our own agency, and our own projects. We’ve seen this problem constantly and decided to do something about it. The problem: The problem space we’re working on is collaborating on code, passive documentation through code block level context, onboarding and offboarding engineers into a code base. We found this problem on pretty much every software team we’ve worked on - you open a file and don’t know how something runs and have to start asking in #devops chats which leads you on a goose chase to find the engineer that remembers how the monolith runs. It stinks, and when you’re done you move on and finish your work, you don’t really capture everything you learned in DMs and leave it for other team members to learn from. The solution: We’ve created an extension for VS Code to allow any engineer to attach their internal knowledge to specific files or lines of code and share it with the rest of the team. - Onboard or offboard engineers into your code base 10x faster. - Take notes while you code and help your team understand how it was built. - Ask the right person a question, without disturbing their flow. - Share a direct link to a code block in VS Code instead of sending screenshots. How you can help: Your support means the world to us. Here are some things we’d love: - Introductions to remote or hybrid engineering teams - Shoutouts on Twitter, Tiktok or whatever is cool these days. - Use (Codex) today! We want all the feedback we can get 😄 THANK YOU! 😁 ✌🏻

@brandonwaselnuk awesome job and good luck with the launch! I remember you showing me this early on and it's so great to see how it's evolved!
Brandon Waselnuk
@g_c_ Thanks Geoff! Its fun to think back to our convo while I wandered University Ave in Toronto. Now I'm in Vancouver shipping code on the project. Such a wild world! Hope you're progress has been massive growth as well!
Cam Sloan
Congrats to the Codex team on launching!

@brandonwaselnuk @elenasamuylova Thanks Elena! YC founders are the best, aren't they?!
Adam Waselnuk
It’s been amazing watching Codex go from a frustration about the state of dev team collaboration into a focused, useful solution. I can’t wait to keep watching it evolve. You guys ship so fast!!
Karl Clement
@adam_waselnuk Speed, speed, speed! Thanks Adam for kind words :)
Anthony Morris
I think this will greatly benefit startups who don't have the time to write great documentation. Context is king! Great work Team Codex. 😀
Karl Clement
@amorriscode Thanks Anthony, that means a lot. We actually say that in our meetings :)

One of the biggest things that customers cared about when I worked at GitHub was the ability to find decisions made about code, quickly. It's not always easy to search through Pull Requests and commit histories to find the reason for a change. Codex makes it dead simple to ask and get an answer from the people who know the most about the code. Huge level up! Really cool to see so much progress getting made on the product. Congrats, team!
Karl Clement
@pmn Thanks so much, Paul! Could not have said it better myself. Really appreciate the kind words :)
Victor Cucu
Hey, congratulations on the launch.
Karl Clement
@victor_cucu Thanks Victor! Let's do this!
Karan Kajla
Congrats on the launch Codex team! The product looks great! 👌
Karl Clement
@karankajla Thanks Karan! I like to think so :)
Daniel Engels
Most programming languages support comments; but it's true that a single tool to leave comments might be much more convenient for collaboration.
Karl Clement
@daniel_engels Thanks Daniel! Could not agree more! Having all your context gathered in one searchable and organized place, right in your editor is a life saver.
Danielle Pensack
What a cool product -- this team is killer and the pain they're solving is so real. So excited about the launch of Codex.
Karl Clement
@danielle_pensack Thanks Danielle! Really appreciate the kind words :)

David Gu
Congrats on the launch team! I've experienced first hand the pain of diving into a new code-base (as well as the pain of helping someone new get up-to-speed) and love this solution. Excited to see Codex take off 💥💥💥
Karl Clement
@davidgu Thanks David! Means a lot!
Ted Spare
Congrats on the launch @brandonwaselnuk! We've been using Codex in a few repos at Neat.run and it goes way beyond code comments. Always excited to see what you build next.
Karl Clement
@brandonwaselnuk @tedspare Thanks Ted! Happy to hear a fellow happy user
Ilya Brotzky
Super exciting. Fantastic team and product. Every product team should be using Codex!
Karl Clement
@ilya_brotzky1 Thanks Ilya! Music to my ears!
Dylan Brookes
Cool stuff! Any plans to have the link be shared to someone on slack right from VSCode? (i.e. I right click, share, and then could select via a dropdown in VSCode someone on slack that I want to send the link to - would be helpful to stop the context switching from VSCode to Slack!). Can't wait to see what's next, love the website btw!
Karl Clement
@dylan_brookes Thanks Dylan! Definitely in the cards, we are building up further integration with Slack to make things easier by automatically Dming the Slack user. We're also working on inline responses to Slack notifications, that way to can answer right in the message
Jacobo Vidal
Congrats on the launch!! 🚀 🚀 Super useful product to give context and collaborate with your dev team :)
Karl Clement
@jacobo_vidal Thanks Jacobo! Means the world
