CodeRabbit VSCode Extension - Free AI code reviews directly in the IDE

Code, review, commit: all without leaving your IDE. CodeRabbit acts as a backstop that flags hallucination, logical errors, code smells, missed unit tests, and more.

CodeRabbit AI is born out of a familiar developer pain: the frustration of delayed code reviews, chance of missing critical bugs on large feature changes.

Having great Code Quality and Velocity of shipping is a engineering team's dream. Personally to engineers satisfaction, writing clean maintainable code is a benchmark of sorts.

CodeRabbit AI addresses this for every developer, human code reviewer and organizations without needing to change their shipping workflow. It meticulously reviews each and every PR and gives instant feedback. CodeRabbit AI's extensive Context enrichment helps you find & fix bugs, improve readability or maintainability of the project.

Today, we are excited to launch our Free IDE extensions to VSCode, Cursor and Windsurf. It has been a long-term ask from our community to provide the similar senior-developer level code review capabilities in their IDEs.

  • Free AI Code reviews: no subscription needed for reviews in the IDE.

  • Context-aware high quality reviews that truly understand the context behind code changes to catch more bugs. Context hand-off to code

  • Customization: path-based instructions help tailor code reviews based on your requirements. Context hand-off from review comments to your preferred code gen assistant.

  • Ease of Use: Get started with AI code reviews in minutes by installing the extension in VSCode, Cursor, or Windsurf IDE

Try it and give us feedback on what you think!

@grapplingdev  super, thanks for clarifying!

Monia Dohas

@putrevu is this something non-technical team members (like PMs or QA) could use to understand changes better?

Ankit Jena

Hey everyone! Super pumped to finally launch CodeRabbit VSCode Extension here on Product Hunt. We built it to bring code reviews right where you write your code, so you can get feedback and catch issues way early in the coding cycle. We’ve put a lot of love into it and can’t wait to hear what you think — feel free to drop any feedback, questions, or ideas in the comments!

Supa Liu

It’s like having a vigilant co-pilot ensuring your code is clean, tested, and reliable—without ever leaving your workflow.

Aravind Putrevu

@supa_l Yes it is!

Dan Holdsworth

I've used it a few times so far and being able to catch any issues prior to pushing to GH is super helpful, congrats to the team!

Aravind Putrevu

@grapplingdev Thanks, Dan! Hope you are able squash bugs faster with our Rabbit.

Aditya Oberai

Very cool announcement, huge congratulations to the CodeRabbit team! 👏🎉

Aravind Putrevu

@aditya_oberai Thank you, Aditya. CodeRabbit loves contributing to Appwrite OSS project!

I think it’s better to offer a higher rate limit for the trial. I just wanted to try it in Cursor to ask for a review of my changes, but after reviewing 3 files, it stopped with a message saying the review was completed and left 10 other files unreviewed. If I click again, I receive: "Rate limit exceeded. Please wait 54 minutes and 30 seconds before making another request." Even though it’s free, this feels kind of useless. It would be better to offer only a paid option with a full trial so I can see the full potential of the tool.

Aravind Putrevu

@justonedev Aleks, sorry for the trouble you faced. I think our rate limits are generous, we allow upto 3 reviews per hour. Please try us again.

Aleks 👨‍💻 HypeDesk.io

@putrevu I think it is not 3 review for hour but 3 files it can review in hour. I had ~13 files changed, I clicked review, it reviewed 3 of them and said "completed". At least it should say "I could not complete the full review because of rate limit". Just a small suggestion. Because otherwise it is not clear why it reviewed only 3 files out of 13 and said: Review is completed. Anyway good tool, I will probably give it a try one more time with a pro plan later.

Aravind Putrevu

@justonedev Happy to have further discussion on this at discord.gg/coderabbit - we love feedback and iterate really fast.

@justonedev  please report back if you resolve this issue. I was interested in trying CodeRabbit given it was identified as free ("we are excited to launch our Free IDE extensions to VSCode, Cursor and Windsurf"), but it sounds more like trialware.

Suryansh Tiwari

🚀 Wow, this is next-level innovation for developers!

Code reviews are such a critical part of building high-quality products, but they can be time-consuming and inconsistent. CodeRabbit’s ability to provide instant, context-aware AI code reviews inside your IDE is a total productivity unlock!

The integration with VSCode, Cursor, and Windsurf shows how much you’re listening to the community’s needs. Big kudos to the team for making this free and accessible—this will help so many developers ship faster and with more confidence. 💻👏

@suryansh_tiwari2 Thank you Suryansh!

Hello,

Super excited to launch the CodeRabbit's VS Code extension on Product Hunt! As part of the team that built this, I can say we've worked hard to bring seamless AI-powered code reviews directly into your favorite editors.

What excites me most is how smoothly it integrates with both VS Code, Cursor & Windsurf - no more context switching between tools. You get intelligent code analysis, security insights, and suggestions right where you're already coding.

We've focused on making the developer experience as frictionless as possible. Would love to hear what features matter most to you in your daily coding workflow!

Thanks for checking us out and happy to answer any questions about the extension! 🚀

Question. I use Cline with Sonnet 4.0 today. as will everyone soon. Agentic coding bliss. What problem does cline have that this helps with?

Aravind Putrevu

@sentry_co Cline writes the Code, CodeRabbit perfects it! We are a Agentic AI Code Reviewer. Check out to see how Cline + CodeRabbit can be a game changer workflow!

Alex Cloudstar

Congratulations on the launch of CodeRabbit, team! This extension sounds like a game-changer for developers looking for real-time, context-aware code reviews. I love that it's designed to enhance code quality without disrupting existing workflows. Can't wait to try it out in VSCode! 🚀

This looks super helpful—pair programming can make such a difference, and having an AI that actually feels collaborative is a big win. Great job on building something devs will actually want to use. Congrats to the team!

Best AI Code review Tool out there!
Said Aitmbarek

Congrats on the launch guys, big fan of your VC/Cursor extension, helps a lot with PRs!

Dmytro Nuianzin

Cool launch! But be honest - does it ever suggest something that totally breaks the code? Asking for a friend 😅

Thomas White

Super useful for reviewing my own code, I always feel like my PRs have unnecessary comments that I didn't catch before submitting. Now it just needs to leave incredibly opinionated nitpicky comments for that extra human touch!

congrats team, @gursingh how well does it understand component trees and prop drilling in React or Vue? Has it been trained on real-world frontend codebases?
