A molecularly printed cocktail? Ok — I'll bite! 🍸

How does the per drink pricing work? Every time I make a craft cocktail, I'll be charged $2.99 or $.79 for an ice tea? How many craft cocktails can each cartridge set make?
Matthew Mahar
@arash_hadipanah1 thanks for the question(s). Similar to shopping at the grocery store or purchasing per drink coffee pods(but without the trash creating pods!) Cana brings that experience to the home, providing great convenience while reducing the CO2 and packaging waste that comes with the current systems. Our a la carte pricing ranges from $0.29 to $2.99. Cana makes beverages priced up to 50% less than beverages bought from conventional retail or restaurant sources. Cana will reconcile the purchases that have been made when we ship and you install a new cartridge - this is likely every month but could be longer depending on how often you have beverages. Cartridges only show up when you need them based on how much they have been depleted. Should also note that we are still evolving the exact prices within the ranges mentioned above.

Hi Hunters! I'm Matt Mahar, CEO of Cana, and am so excited to share with you what we've been up to here at Cana! More people are waking up to the fact that the global beverage and bottling industry is one of the most wasteful and irresponsible – drying up freshwater supplies, fueling carbon emissions and turbocharging the global trash crisis. To make a single glass of orange juice takes 200 liters of water. To make a single bottle of wine takes 600 liters of water to grow the grapes. And what's crazy is that that that bottle wine is 87% water! We use an insane amount of water...to ship beverages that are mostly water. The $2 trillion beverage and bottling industry uses over 100 million acres of land, requires hundreds of trillions of liters of water, and emits 543 million tons of CO2 to produce over 1 trillion single-use plastic, glass, and aluminum beverage containers each year – and these bottles are filled almost to the brim with mostly water - soda is 99% water in the can! Its unnecessary and has to stop! So we created Cana One. With Cana One, we're circumventing the wasteful cycle of production, manufacturing, and distribution through decentralized manufacturing. Moving to a decentralized and hyperlocal framework for beverage production is the fastest and easiest way to reduce the massive environmental impact of the industry. It will avoid the costly and time-consuming processes of instituting regulatory change or creating new recycling facilities and technologies. For our Product Hunters, we have a limited reserve of units for preorder! You can reserve your Cana One today for $99, which will convert to credit toward your purchase. This guarantees you a price of $499. After the reserve is gone, the regular price will be $799. We can't wait to hear what you think! - Matt

What will be the availability of the cartridges? Are they refillable or made out of recyclable aluminum? Is this going to be a closed ecosystem or do you plan on allowing third parties to produce cartridges?
Matthew Mahar
@david_novak5 Cartridges will be shipped to your home dynamically. Based on how many servings are remaining and how much you consume, we will send you cartridges exactly when you need. This means you never have to worry about running out of a beverages or having them stack up. You will also be able to manually order a cartridge if you need it. The used cartridge its sent back to us, prepaid shipping of course, and we will clean and reuse it again. This eliminates 1000s of bottles from being sent to the landfill and contributing to the trash crisis.

This is exciting! With everyone supplying their own water (tap, filtered, unfiltered, etc) how do you manage quality-control and bevvie consistency?
Matthew Mahar
@coco_kleinert Yes. Great question. We do a few things. First off Cana One has a water filter inside the water reservoir that filters water as we pull from that container. We have also built the recipes from the ground up to be considerate of water impurities. And then lastly, Cana One takes I to account feedback from customers and updates it’s recipes based on that feedback. Not directly related to your question but important to point out - people can customize every drink the way they like it. Adjust sugar, flavor intensity and even combining flavors, people craft their perfect blend regardless of the water they happen to use. The custom beverage is saved and every time it’s poured going forward it’s perfect to that persons tastes.
Lance Kizer
@coco_kleinert the Cana One has water filtration built in, as water is drawn from the reservoir it passes through a filter which purifies it and makes for consistent beverages. So now matter where you are, the water from your tap will work great.

I'm supportive but unsure what's under the hood. Are there pods or pouches...how does it work?
Lance Kizer
Great question..definitely not pods! Beverages are 85-99% water, flavor is about 1-2% and the rest might be alcohol in a wine or cocktail. Cana One has flavor, carbonation, sweetener and neutral grain spirit cartridges all on board. Together these contain a set of universal ingredients that can be combined using very accurate dosing by our technology to create a huge number of different beverages on demand, really like the beverage aisle on your countertop. The ingredients in our cartridges are the same high quality, food safe ingredients that are in all the beverages we drink and consume everyday. Yet because we assemble them on demand when you print a drink we eliminate wasteful single use packaging , allow you to customize the drink to your taste (less sugar, less alcohol, more flavor? All yes and much much more). Pods are one drink = one beverage while Cana One will give you 1-3 months worth of beverages from a single cartridge set.
