@rrhoover I think this will become bigger than Experiences. It can be a deterrent to figure out timing for one Experience on a trip, but I can imagine more people springing for fully planned trips like we've seen guided travel make a resurrection (e.g., Equinox Travel, Aire Libre with Janji, etc.)

@kunalslab @rrhoover Let's see: regular Airbnb fees for hosts 3-5%. For experiences 20% flat ("To help cover the costs of the products, services, and support we provide, we charge a 20% service fee for experiences unless otherwise agreed to by the host and Airbnb.")
Since AirBnb is planning for an IPO for early 2020(per Bloomberg), it merges housing and experiences and call it....wait for it...adventures. And the margin on those are 20%. Nice way to ramp up the margin on their core product incognito. Could they eventually use this to leverage higher margins on housing?
As far as value is concerned, completely agree with @rrhoover :it will depend on who is using it ultimately but for users who dont want to deal with the hassle it may just be worth it. It is certainly worth it for AirBnb to move into higher margin products and services.

Not surprised at all. Very smart. Expecting big things to keep coming from the Airbnb squad.
On the one hand, it's great to just 'wing it' with travel plans but on the other hand, can see so many instances where this will make life easier. Interesting to see where Airbnb take it.
Is there a way to sort other than these predefined categories and areas? I think that'd be nice in the future. I might want to plan my trip based on search criteria. Not find adventures only after I've selected certain categories.

@anthonygawonlee It actually is! See my comment above and how AirBnb is covertly using adventures to charge 20% vs the current 3-5% to locals.
A local Ohio startup has been working on something like this for the past year. Crazy to see Airbnb taking a shot at this as well.

Pros:No hassle vacays
Cons:1. 20% fees = 650% more than just housing. 2. $200 GoPro deal is deceptive: they marked up the price then applied a discount.
In general, I like Airbnb data-customer oriented approach
Pros:The authenticity and the real/local touch of the potential hosts of those adventures
Cons:Control of quality

@gabef Did some checking up. First make sure to VPN in using a US IP as otherwise the offer disappears (maybe tell the users before making them do this?). Second, they are counting $25 for the 32GB SD card while you can get a 128GB one for less at amazon. But worse, the SD card is actually free with the normal GoPro so marking up something and then applying a coupon is a big no-no for me. Like seriously are we back to the days of raising the price on a product then applying a fake "Sale" discount?
