One of the biggest mistakes most products make when launching on Product Hunt

One of the biggest mistakes I notice with products launching on Product Hunt is skipping the teaser page. Promoting your teaser page is one of the most important steps because it serves two main purposes. First, it informs your friends, network, and audience on social media about your upcoming launch, giving them a heads-up that you’ll be launching on Product Hunt. Second, it helps you build an audience directly on the Product Hunt platform. This audience will receive a notification on launch day, encouraging them to support you—a big advantage. For example, if you have 500 people who clicked on your teaser page, they’ll receive a notification on launch day, which could result in at least 200-300 guaranteed upvotes on the day of the launch. That’s why we’re launching in less than two weeks, and we’re actively promoting our teaser page right now. https://www.producthunt.com/products/muse-15 I highly advise anyone planning a launch to prioritize creating and promoting their teaser page.

One of mistakes I notice is unclear purpose and use-case of the product. Some are very abstract that I do not know what the product is about. Literally like websites where is description sounds like some motivational quote but you still do not know what's the go :D

Absolutely correct, But PH will don't send launch notification to teaser page subscribers and followers of the hunter and makers if project is not getting featured. Notified, Good luck!!

@abbas143official That new to me. I thought that the notifications to teaser page subscribers and followers of the hunters and the makers are sent automatically right on the launch day to give you a push like @byalexai described. Means you'll get that push only when you get featured?

@abbas143official Very accurate input on your part, Ghulam. However, whether you’ll be featured or not depends on the Product Hunt team's decision, so you don’t have control over that. Of course, the more serious the product, the more likely you are to be featured. This is a good way for them and us to assess high-quality products in advance.

Absolutely, the lack of a clear value prop and use case is a major issue. Your landing page copy needs to immediately convey what your product does, who it's for, and why they should care. Save the motivational quotes for social media posts - on PH you need to be super crisp and concrete about exactly what your product is and why it matters to the user. I think a framework like 'Get [key benefit] by [key features] for [target user]' can help focus the messaging.

Thanks for your answers @abbas143official & @byalexai ! Understood, what does the PH assess for that decision? Are the criteria official or known by you or the community? Getting featured means be one of the TOP 5 products placed on top after the first 4 hours of voting without visible count of upvotes?

One of the biggest mistakes most products make when launching on Product Hunt is not having a clear and compelling value proposition from the start. Many founders focus too much on the product features or the technical aspects, rather than making it clear how their product solves a real problem for the user in a simple, digestible way. Product Hunt is a community driven by people looking for new tools that can make their lives easier or more productive. If the product description or the launch page doesn’t immediately communicate the why behind the product—why it’s useful and how it benefits the user—it can quickly get lost among the many other launches. Another common mistake is not engaging enough with the Product Hunt community during the launch. Product Hunt is built on interaction, feedback, and community support. Simply uploading your product and walking away won’t help you gain traction. Engaging with commenters, answering questions, and showing your enthusiasm can lead to a much stronger launch.
