Hey Product Hunt community! 👋

Today, we're launching Agentic Editing in our next-gen code editor, Zed.

With Agentic Editing, AI writes code and runs tests while you maintain full engagement and control. Follow along as your agent's edits stream into your codebase, or push long running tasks into the background and be notified when they're done.

After the changes are complete, leverage Zed's unique multibuffers to review and edit agent changes in a unified location - all with full IDE capabilities.

What makes Zed special:

  • Built in Rust from scratch - runs at 120+ FPS like a video game

  • Not a VS Code fork - we built the entire stack ourselves for performance and control

  • Designed for collaboration - optimized for humans and AI working together

  • Fully transparent - all our code, prompts, and evaluations are open source

You can try Agentic Editing in Zed today with our two-week trial (includes 150 prompts). Building our own stack took time, but it gives us the foundation to create something truly different in this new era of human-AI coding.

Check out our launch post for more details!

In Rust We Trust,

Nathan, Antonio, Max and the Zed team

@nathansobo How does Zed’s agent handle merge conflicts or overlapping edits from human collaborators?

Mo

@nathansobo Congrats!!

While there's some big news this week about @Windsurf, I wouldn't sleep on Zed's new Agentive Editing experience!

Zed's built from the ground up for speed, extensibility, and defensibility — by the team that built Electron and Atom!

This means that Microsoft can't come knocking and knee-cap popular extensions.

I recently launched Zed's Zeta edit prediction model — and am excited to see its next evolution delivered through Zed's agentic editing features.

@chrismessina I was going to comment asking for top reasons to try @Zed (as a @Windsurf) user. But this comment already describes the reasons perfectly.

André J

@chrismessinaYepp an Atom was JS and Zed is rust. so M$ cant even make a longshot claim regarding conflict of interest. Not sure what windsurf is built on. But cursor should probably build their own ide soon.

Can't wait for Windows builds!

BYO keys is awesome! I use cline atm for agenetic coding. How is the pricing? Its reported that github copilot agent will throttle sonnet 3.7 usage after 20min of heavy usage. How does Zed solve this? one flat monthly fee and unlimited use? or is there a metered cost as well? Thanks!

Richard Feldman

@sentry_co The pricing for Zed Pro is at https://zed.dev/pricing and if you scroll down on that page, it has details on how the usage works. If you have any questions beyond what's there, happy to answer them!

André J

@rtfeldman Thanks. $0.05 per request. For sonnet 3.7 is that 1 to 1 token price or rebated?

Piotr Kusiak

@nathansobo congrats on the launch - will check it out

Love how Zed integrates AI agents directly into the coding workflow without disrupting the developer's focus. Does it support real-time collaboration between multiple developers using these agents? Excited to see how this evolves! 🚀

Richard Feldman

@patpijanowski You can do real-time collaboration with other Zed users, and if any of them is using the Agent Panel, it will Just Work.

We've also talked about other ways to improve on it, such as letting you follow someone else's agent to watch what it's writing in realtime (just like you can follow your own agent, or follow someone else).

Mike Kerzhner

@nathansobo Zed is so slick! New window with a separate lllm chatbox is such a killer feature.

As a very serious Rust shop, how do you feel about the Rust ecosystem/libraries/frameworks? Do you find yourselves on the bleeding edge of what Rust frameworks support? Do you spend a bunch of time building and maintaining open source libraries?

This AI IDE is a game-changer for coding! 😄

Love this! I use Zed as my daily driver, and this was the only thing missing. Great job guys!

CaiCai

Looking forward to it, but it seems that all current AI editors haven't optimized the overall UI interface well. Zed has an advantage in this regard.

Built from scratch and AI-native? Niceeee!

Super excited to play with this. I’ve been waiting for it. Using claude code / neovim combo currently.

Congrats! Fantastic product. I have a marketing question; what is your target market? I am interested as to how you would sell this (which is totally doable) to a regular user and not a seasoned AI veterans and coders.
