A great product for collaborative sketches.

Pros:

Simple and intuitive. The history and shape detection features are awesome.

Cons:

The shape detection requires accurate drawing and is quite limited for now. For instance, triangles are not corrected.

Abhi Kalakuntla
Thanks Laurent! Yeah, we limited the shape detection to just circles and rectangles because we assumed that those were the most commonly used shapes + we didn't want to over correct the users' drawings. The accuracy and tolerance levels still need some tuning and that’s something we will be working on in the next few weeks.

Very impressed for first version launch. The Slack plugin is super handy, so you can launch a new board with just a command. Right now, they seem to be having their servers overloaded, so load times are very long. This is a good thing though :) Congrats team, well done 👏🏼

Pros:

Shape detection! Can see other users in real-time. Slack plugin! No signup and can easily share a link to your board.

Cons:

Super simple, but expected for a first launch. Not really a con

Nice! I've been waiting for this. Does it work on iPad? It's so much easier to draw on iPad than it is to draw on desktop. Release a React Native iPad app and I'll be hooked!

Cannot import docs (diagrams, pdfs etc) and edit on them or export after the end of the meeting. Hard to sketch using mouse, need tablets

Pros:

Simple concept, good execution.

Cons:

The cursor is hard to see

Abhi Kalakuntla
Thank you! Yeah, we are definitely thinking about importing docs for annotations. We wanted to ship a minimal feature set for GA, but great suggestion nonetheless. Will definitely get to it soon. Yeah, we really had to think about how to make a smooth UX on a desktop/laptop and we came up with the keyboard shortcuts (more on this when you see help sidebar) and shape detection. In my opinion, once you get the hang of the keys, the desktop experience will be much better 🙂.

This is an awesome product - the UX is clean and intuitive. Plus, it's (a lot) cheaper and more portable than Google's Jamboard. :-)

The Invision Freehand inspiration is pretty evident. Hold `Shift` for click free drawing is a pretty nice addition, though.

Loved the product. Is there a privacy policy & terms and conditions for your product?
Shawn Park
@gorkemcetin good catch -- we missed it and will add it asap

@gorkemcetin @roka371 The creators of Wordpress have opensourced their ToC & Privacy documents. https://github.com/Automattic/le... Let me know if you find any thing better and also free :)
Reony T
@gorkemcetin was just about to ask this... Could you link to a privacy statement or security audit? My company won't allow us to use this without evidence of this. :(
Neil Patel
@gorkemcetin totally agree. It's awesome.

This is awesome (among the whiteboards I tested) Will surely use during my online math classes. Very happy to find you! 👏😻

Fantastic work! My only recommendations/requests— • Enable (or add an option to enable) anti-aliasing even when a shape isn't detected • Also add shape tools, as it doesn't always detect the correct shape I'm trying to draw, and allow basic universal special-key use, such as shift to maintain aspect ratio • Text editing tools— unless I'm just lost, I see no way to change the size or style of a font • Allow by default or include a mode where shapes and text alike can be modified after being placed, similar to layers in photoshop. If I am collaborating with my team on an app UI design, it would help to be able to resize and change elements to further develop and change a concept we have already begun designing on the whiteboard. With all of these^ taken into account, my BIG recommendation is that you form a strategic relationship with Noun Project (or a service like that, though NP is the best I've seen). With Noun Project directly integrated, users can open an svg-powered artwork sidebar and drag in vector artwork which will also be modifiable like the rest as I mentioned above. If users are not Noun Project subscribers or are not signed in, they'll still be able to drag in svg options from their wide collection of free artwork, mixing in some pro-only items that are greyed out with a lock labeled "Pro" or whatever their subscription is called, and also include a banner at the bottom promoting Noun Project and incentivizing subscribing, of which you could probably form some sort of affiliate partnership. If a user is already a pro member and signed in, they could access all artwork from this sidebar or drag it in directly from their mac NP tool which would import it as an svg. By integrating with Noun Project, all artwork color could also default/be restricted to whatever color the user already has set in the sidebar. Access to these elements would help tremendously in UI building and make your service more appealing to designers and teams.

@brandon_mcconnell These are amazingly thoughtful suggestions, thank you! - Anti-aliasing: that's a great idea, we are going to look into it. - Shape tools: Yeah, we only really supported rectangles and circles (we assumed those are were the most used shapes) -- so we didn't know if we wanted to add a shape button at the bottom for just two shapes. We added the 'r' and 'c' keyboard shortcuts and shape detection to take away that button. I really do like the "shift to maintain aspect ratio" idea! - Text editing: As crazy as it sounds, we wanted users to just erase or Cntrl-Z to make text changes --just like a real whiteboard I guess :p. Our MVP (and really overall) mantra is quick and fast sketching, and introducing (text) editing would add features that we thought would break that. We'll look into it. - Shape modification: same mantra thing I was talking about above. Marrying editing features with "quick and fast" is going to need some UX thought :). We really want to integrate into other services and tools people are already familiar with! We have some awesome ideas and it's a matter of how we roll it out -- so stay tuned :).

You don't know how many times this could have been useful in my life. If you have ever worked with distributed/remote teams, and need to layout a diagram or propose an architecture you can try to finagle with your laptop camera to point to a whiteboard in your office, but that never works well enough. I also I don't want to be limited to the bounds of a shared spreadsheet or a word document. A few features/integrations to think about: 1. Can this be integrated with existing video/hangout software? 2. Can I drop in common shapes? 3. Can this be a desktop app as well as a web app? Web apps are great for shooting over as links to people. Desktop apps are great so that I can potentially hook in better hardware (stylus pens?) 4. Re-center button. Seems like the whiteboard extends endlessly (which I like), but similar to how maps allows you to return to the center of where you are - you may want to consider returning to the center of where you started drawing initially. Good work.

* We are experiencing slight delay due to traffic. Thanks for the interest guys and we are looking to resolve ASAP! Hey PH! Super excited to share Witeboard -- we've been working on it as a side project to help remote teams collaborate real-time. We created Witeboard to be the "fastest" way to share ideas remotely. Think JSFiddle -- but for drawing. We removed all barrier to entry like sign ups and installs so your team can hop on and share ideas right away. No more awkwardly turning your laptop camera to the whiteboard in a meeting room to get your point across. Would love to hear you guys' thoughts and let us know if there's any way we can make it better for your workflow!

@roka371 thank you SO MUCH for this!! After leaving InVision behind and committing myself to Figma completely, the one thing I really miss was their whiteboard feature. Now I can just use this for quick virtual whiteboarding since our company is very flexible with remote time. Thanks again

It's great this app. I can imagine some interesting uses with it. However, It has to be improved, because I've just tested it with a coworker nearby (in the same network) and we experimented some delays when he tried to draw something. It should be real 'real-time' experience. But If you could fix it (I think so), it would be so useful.
Shawn Park
@sergioruizdavila Yup I believe it's because of the traffic we are getting. We will look into improve the speed and stability over the next few weeks. Thanks for the heads up!

More add-ons will be a plus point, like changing text size

Pros:

Simple, light and easy to use

Cons:

none

Simple, no-signup product that works promised. Collaborative whiteboards aren't new, but not like this. Slack integration and shape detection (perfect on circles, squares; not triangles) is a terrific idea. Easier to type than write w/out tablet+pen. Congrats, @abhi_kalakuntla #coolnewtools

Is there an API? I was thinking of building something like Pramp but with the drawing capability built in as well.
Connor MacDonald
It looks awesome. Adding a shapes tool would make organization waaay simpler and faster. Loooove the frictionless ux
Abhi Kalakuntla
@connorstweetin We're really glad that you like it! We decided to forgo a shapes tool because we didn't want to clutter that area. We do however have keyboard shortcuts and shape detection for rectangles and circles :).

It is a good free whiteboard that has the potential to be very useful in online learning between teachers and students. Would love to see more tools added in the future.

Pros:

It has a simple clean interface. Very simple to use.

Cons:

Would like to see more sharing options.

For some reason nothing happens when I try to install the Slack app
Reony T
@roka371 do you know if this is a bug? I need to ask if I have permission to install plugins too.
Abhi Kalakuntla
@roka371 @megaroeny Hey Reony! Sorry for the late response, but the fix for the Slack integration is fixed. Sadly, the load on our image processing was ungracefully crashing the API that also handled our slack integration calls. Our slack integration is pretty minimal right now as we wanted to see if people wanted it before we built more of it. We'll add more features to it in the coming few weeks :)
Reony T
@roka371 @abhi_kalakuntla do I need to reinstall? Thank you!
Abhi Kalakuntla
@roka371 @megaroeny yep! Try going through the flow again.
