Hey Product Hunt! 👋

I'm Chanwoo, the founder of Whatting a diary app built for the way we actually live today.

Whatting was born from a simple frustration:
"Why hasn't the diary fully gone digital yet?"
If you’ve ever tried journaling on your iPad, you’ve probably run into one (or all) of these:

🔍 Digging through endless PDF templates
📝 Using note-taking apps that aren’t really made for diaries
🧩 Trying to squeeze your life into one rigid layout

I felt the same pain — so I built Whatting to fix it.
With Whatting, you can literally compose your own diary.

Instead of picking one layout, you build your own from modular, standalone widgets like:

✅ Design your own layout — just the way you like it
✅ Each widget works like a mini app made just for diary use
✅ Themes, widgets, styles — all tailored to your lifestyle

Arrange everything however you want: a clean grid, a creative collage, or something entirely unique. As your life changes, so does your space.
This is my very first Product Hunt launch. I built this with care — and even if just one person finds it useful, I’ll keep listening and improving.
If this sounds like something you’ve been looking for, I’d love for you to be one of the very first to try it.
Thanks so much for checking it out!

We truly believe modularity is the key to personal expression — so glad it helped the diary come to life for you.
Appreciate the kind words! 💛

Ambika Vaish

@chanwoo_kim  this is so beautifully done, I love how intentional and human Whatting feels. The modular widget approach is genius, especially for those of us who’ve bounced between note apps and PDF templates without anything ever quite fitting.

Also, huge respect for starting with iPad to prioritize creative freedom ; that says a lot about your design values. Can’t wait to see the iPhone version too! Rooting for you and the journey ahead.

Chanwoo Kim

@ambika_vaish

Wow… this means the world to us 🥹💛
You put into words exactly what we hoped people would feel — human, intentional, and built for those of us who never quite fit the mold.
Starting with iPad was a love letter to creative freedom, and hearing that it resonated makes it all worth it.
iPhone version is coming soon — and we can’t wait to share what’s next.
Thank you so much for your beautiful support!

Ambika Vaish

@chanwoo_kimWhatting radiates that creative freedom and thoughtful intention — it’s honestly rare to come across something that feels this human in the productivity space.

iPhone version?? YES PLEASE. Can’t wait to see where you take it next!

Also, I’m working on launching PageX soon — it’s a Chrome extension for instant SEO + content audits (clean UI, no fluff, all in one click). Will definitely ping you when it’s live — would love your support if it resonates 🙏

Chanwoo Kim

@ambika_vaish

This message made our whole team smile — thank you so much 🥹💛
We’ve always dreamed of bringing something more human to the productivity world, and we’re beyond grateful it came through.

And YES to the iPhone version — it’s on the way! 📱✨

PageX sounds amazing — super clean, useful tools are exactly what we love.
Can’t wait to check it out when you launch — absolutely here to support you! 🙌

Chanwoo Kim

@sayed_ak

Thank you so much! 🙌
That’s exactly what we hoped to create — a diary that adapts to you, not the other way around.
So glad that resonated with you. Appreciate the kind words and support!

Queenie

@chanwoo_kim Whatting sounds like an amazing solution for those of us who’ve struggled to find a diary app that truly adapts to our personal needs. I love the idea of customizable widgets and layouts that reflect how we actually live our lives. I’m definitely going to check it out.

Also, if you’re looking to expand your reach and grow the app’s user base, Insert Affiliate might be a great fit for you. It’s a tool that helps businesses easily run affiliate marketing campaigns, so you can start driving more downloads and engagement without a hefty upfront investment.

Wishing you the best on your first Product Hunt launch, and I can’t wait to see how Whatting evolves :)

Chanwoo Kim

@queencathe

Thank you so much — this truly means a lot to us! 🙏
We set out to create a diary that reflects how people actually live their lives, and we’re so happy to hear that came through.
Big thanks as well for recommending Insert Affiliate — that sounds like a great option and we’ll definitely look into it.
Appreciate your thoughtful message and support on our launch journey

Queenie

@chanwoo_kim You're so welcome! 😊 I'm genuinely excited about what you're building, it's such a thoughtful and beautifully executed take on digital journaling.

I'm glad Insert Affiliate might be helpful! It’s been a great tool for creators who want to build a loyal community and grow organically.

Wishing you all the best as Whatting continues to grow, can’t wait to see where this journey takes you :)

Chanwoo Kim

@queencathe

This means so much — thank you again for your thoughtful encouragement and support! 💛
We’re incredibly grateful for the recommendation of Insert Affiliate — it sounds like a powerful tool, and we’re definitely excited to explore it further.
We’re lucky to have you cheering us on, and can’t wait to share more as Whatting grows 🚀

Nika

iPad only?

Because from all devices (iPhones, Macs – iPads are used the least).

Don't you plan to expand to smartphones primarily? (Because the maximum possible market limit may be lower for iPads.)

Chanwoo Kim

@busmark_w_nika

Great question – and yes, absolutely! 😊
An iPhone version is already in the works and planned for later this year.
We’re also building seamless data sync between iPad and iPhone so you can switch between devices effortlessly.
While we started with iPad to focus on layout flexibility, we’re definitely expanding to make Whatting more accessible for everyone.

🎉 Big congrats on the PH launch, Chanwoo @chanwoo_kim ! As an iPad journaling addict, the "Lego-like widgets" approach is GENIUS – finally escaping the PDF template hell in Goodnotes! 🚀 Love how each widget is purpose-built for journaling scenarios (that mood tracker widget is chef's kiss).

💡 Quick idea: A "Export as Insta-ready PDF" feature could make sharing those gorgeous layouts even sweeter!

BTW, we're building a no-code Agent platform (Tate-A-Tate) – imagine users auto-generating journal content via AI agents that sync directly with Whatting's canvas. Coffee chat? ☕

Chanwoo Kim

@rocsheh

Thanks so much! It really means a lot coming from a fellow iPad journaling enthusiast. We totally get the pain of PDF templates—that’s exactly what we wanted to escape 😅

Absolutely love your idea for “Insta-ready PDF export” – clean sharing has definitely been on our radar, and we’ll keep your suggestion in mind!

Tate-A-Tate sounds super exciting. The synergy between AI agents and widget-based journaling could be huge. We'd love to chat more—what kind of collaboration did you have in mind?

@chanwoo_kim 🔥 Thrilled to hear your excitement! Seems we both see the magic in "Tools + AI" collabs 💫. Here's some sample we can make together: Build a "Daily News Digest Agent" on Tate's Agent platform – users set topics (tech/design/etc.), and the agent auto-curates summaries + key visuals into drag-and-drop widgets for Whatting 📌. Imagine seamless integration where journalers maintain aesthetic layouts while saving 1hr/day on info hunting!

Chanwoo Kim

@rocsheh

Wow, I love how aligned our visions are 💫 Tools + AI really is the future of mindful productivity. So excited to see what we can build together!

Thanks so much for the kind words and support!
It’s been a journey getting to launch, and messages like yours really keep us going 🙌
We’ll keep pushing forward with exciting updates!

Dan Pierce

Congrats on your launch.🎉

Really impressive! In the past, I tried to use my iPad as my personal organizer, but a notepad alone was boring, and when I wanted to use other apps at the same time, it was a hassle to switch between apps. I tried all-in-one apps, but nothing met my needs. Whatting's approach is fantastic, and I think it's great that the widget-style layout means anyone can create their own personalized planner, just like they would with paper.

I understand that you are already planning to do this, but I think it would be even better if you could sync with the iPhone.

Good luck😉

Chanwoo Kim

@d41

Thank you so much for sharing your story – it really resonates with us! 💛
That frustration with switching apps and the lack of personalization is exactly what inspired us to build Whatting.
iPhone sync is absolutely on the way, and we're so excited to bring that flexibility across devices.
Thanks again for the kind words and support – it means the world! 🙌
