Solid product. A work relationship should not end after a lay-off. Even if you let someone go for other reasons than bankruptcy, I believe it's still important to give them all the necessary resources to find another challenge. Great job!
Exactly 1 year ago, my startup was on the edge of bankruptcy and I had to let 30 people go... That was one of the most difficult decisions I had to take in my life 😔
Back then, we made a Google Sheet of these 30 names and shared it with other startups to find them a new home. It was an inefficient process that got hijacked by some headhunters that managed to get their hands on our list 🤬🤬
Today, our ecosystem is going through an unprecedented crisis. Startups are laying off like never before and some of my most talented friends are now unemployed😢
This is why we hacked together this platform. Already dozens of startups have agreed to upload their list of laid-off talent on it and more than 20 VCs are among our supporters 💪💪
We are announcing it here today so it can serve a broader community of makers and startups in the world. Whether you need to let some people go or you need to hire new talent, we hope it will help 🤝
Let's be united, let's be efficient, let's find our friends a new job! ❤️❤️💛
Already hundreds of talent have given permission to receive job opportunities on Switch -- considering the current situation this was a very needed service we're addressing to entrepreneurs, CEOs and VP of People. Hope you all like it!
We have seen a large number of companies forced to layoff great talents during this COVID19 crisis; We all know somebody suffering from it, if not ourselves. We decided to do something that helps, and Switch is our way to contribute.
this is more useful than the various google sheets that get sent around after each layoff. good to see this as a cetralized repo. hopefully there's some sort of expiration so folks that are hired don't clog up the site (or there's a freshness indicator)
Thanks for being proactive and most of all: fast to act! Whereas the problems stemming from the job losses are obvious, solutions are scarce and scrappy (emails to founder community etc) slow and frustrating for everyone. Love the simple idea and execution 🙏🙏🙏
@marieouttier Thanks Marie! We have focused mainly on simplicity and fast execution due to the circumstances, exactly as you said. We want to add more features but in this case, being out there helping as fast as possible was the priority.
We hoped this tool will produce some real results while providing some privacy in the process as those lists that are flying around in the open are a terrible idea, only attract spam and are added to headhunter databases
Sounds interesting! Is a key part of the idea to allow former employers to recommend people they lay off, as opposed to laid off people submitting their profiles independently?
@zalanszekely@oncejean Lol, thx Zalan for the idea! :) We did this in a week or so and it only has the most essential features, but totally, we'll add it
Startups in Travel, Hospitality, Entertainment, Restaurant Tech, Mobility (to name a few) are drastically reducing staff, while others in Healthcare, Mental Health, Education, E-commerce, Cloud, Supply Chain Management, Insurance (to name a few) can't even cope with the demand right now and must hire. For the first ones, the minimum is to make sure that people let go won't stay unemployed and can find their next dream job right away. When you're in this position as an Entrepreneur, you want to help and you want reach out to all other Entrepreneurs you know and recommend these talents.
But it's hard to know who is recruiting and who is not in this crazy environment.
Switch is just taking this to the next level, connecting all startups that are letting people go to all startups that are hiring, creating a global and free talent marketplace.
@jay_friedmann Hi Jay! We need to add that feature, we just built it with the list first. But meanwhile, you can try our main website (getwanted.com) where you can search too as a talent. Give it a try meanwhile!
@danpantelo Hi Dan! We are reaching out to the first startups within our network, and also through our investors' network. Plus we are reaching some companies also on LinkedIn, those who recently publish any layoff, in case they are interested.
Loads of my workmates have been made redundant recently due to the pandemic. This is a really good initiative and I hope that everyone around the globe who lost their jobs will find a new one that make them fulfilled.
It’s tough for most at a time like this. It’s good to know that there are people out there doing things to help and Switch is one of them. This definitely makes job seeking/switching far more efficient. Salud!
@victor_llatas Yes, we send an email to request access to each talent individually. Only once they accept, we will display them in the list to be hired.
