Visual frameworks are sketches and diagrams of mental models, like building blocks for thinking. You can combine and configure them in different ways to make sense of challenging situations, think creatively and build shared understanding about anything.

Hi everyone!
I’m Dave Gray, and I’m excited to launch this collection of visual frameworks. This collection has been my passion project and labor of love for many years. You can think of visual frameworks as building blocks for thinking; this collection is like a library card catalog, except instead of pointing to books, these cards link to concepts and ideas you already have in your brain.
These frameworks emerged in the course of my work as a design consultant and infographer for over 30 years. During that time my focus has been on visualizing complex information for companies of all sizes, from startups to the global Fortune 500s and across all industries, including tech, manufacturing, health care, pharma, banking and finance, NGOs, government agencies, and many more.
For many years I have used visual frameworks to help teams make sense of complex, difficult situations, build shared understanding, explain and sell complex technologies, promote change, and so much more.
I’ve also used them personally to write books, develop product ideas, mentor and coach individuals and teams, and to find creative solutions to everyday problems.
This online collection is free to use. The home page has a visual index, and you can also find frameworks by search or tag cloud. Each framework is cross-linked to similar concepts to make exploring them more interesting and serendipitous.
You can also buy a 2-foot by 3-foot poster print for “wonder-wandering” whenever you’re stuck, facing a difficult challenge, or just want to think creatively.

The potential for these visual frameworks is enormous. I facilitate open innovation workshops within the life science industry and a consistent challenge we face is to present complex issues in a simple way, but that also allows the reader to be drawn in, to consider the detail. Thank you for developing them Dave; a deck of cards with an illustration on one side and a framework description on the other would be a fantastic tool.
