OMGZ! Workfrom has been huge for me as a remote worker and leader. Worker: I love having a "place" to express myself and vibe as I work. I love having a "place" that coworkers and I can stay connected while separately executing on our work. Leader: I love having a more casual way to be " in the work room" with teammates. Anytime I've needed a place to work on similar or adjacent projects with reports, I've used workfrom to keep us "shoulder to shoulder" virtually. All of this from a legit awesome crew of folks that aren't building an interruption machine that is going to juice MAUs and the stock price. "A meetup metaverse made by you" just in the browser? Yes please.
Brooke Hurford
@tsell89 The way you explain this is *chefs kiss* 👩🏼‍🍳 💋 So happy we've been able to build a product you love using.
Jessica Porec
@tsell89 Love this! Thanks, Tyler! :)

"A meetup metaverse"... how is metaverse defined in this context?
Emilio Lopez
@chrismessina you have the multiple cafes (virtual spaces) to pick from and join and interact with other cafe goers
Darren Buckner
@chrismessina hey there. You can create and group spaces to form a "neighborhood" of persistent virtual places where people can meet and interact. Endless possibilities. Example: https://workfrom.com/browse/demo

@darrenbuckner got it, thanks. Why Matthew Ball's book "The Metaverse" is making the rounds, I was curious if your definition differs from his, which it does: "it is a persistent and interconnected network of 3D virtual worlds that will eventually serve as the gateway to most online experiences, and also underpin much of the physical world."
Darren Buckner
@chrismessina yes, and that definition resonates from my previous vantage point. I must say that having witnessed the ingenuity and creation happening on our new platform, I'm convinced we'll see an an "Indie" metaverse of sorts where anyone can set up their own spaces and link them in meaningfully ways with other people's spaces.

I've had the pleasure of mucking around with Virtual Cafes since their very early beta days. We've used them for everything from simple silent coworking to watch parties and everything in between. Psyched to see this product finally out in the wild. (And thanks to @darrenbuckner and @brooke_hurford1 for putting up with all of my random feature requests!)
Katerina
Love workfrom! They have been helping me working from cool places, first IRL in Chicago and now virtually. It's the place I go to for deep work.
Brooke Hurford
@katerinabohlec Katerina! You're such a huge part of our community thank you for helping us build this product. Your input has been more helpful than you can imagine 🤍
Jessica Porec
@katerinabohlec Thank you SO MUCH, Katerina! Your feedback and support in building virtual cafes has been amazing and you're such a wonderful community member. Wouldn't be here without your contributions!
Emilio Lopez
Awesome to see you guys here!! Is there a search function to find spaces in a certain category or from a certain person or is it all still through a share link?
Darren Buckner
@hatertate no search function for spaces people have created. Always interested to hear a vision for this if you have one. Thus far, we've noticed the most stickiness with existing groups that like creating spaces for themselves to frequent.
Emilio Lopez
This is really great if I’m already part of an existing group external to work from and I want to make a “Friday creative day!” group and shoot the share link in that external community and have them migrate from discord to work from let’s say. But without that pre existing community it makes it much harder to grow a space or for people with similar interests to discover your space on their own if they can’t search for it, and makes it much more difficult if I’m not already part of an external community that shares the interests I have. In other words, for me to feel like my cafe is not just me in a virtual box I’m relying solely on other mediums to share it, which depends on my reach. I have no problem with this on it’s own, because I like growing communities…but say I wasn’t this kind of person. Say I was someone searching to feel a sense of belongingness but didn’t want to have to grow their own virtual space…I’d be immediately turned off if I couldn’t search for a place I can just be a part of, no marketing or sharing involved.

Hey, everyone! Darren from Workfrom here. We love having freedom and flexibility in how and where we work, and our team has been building work-from-anywhere tools since it was a thing to scour Yelp for places with “good wifi” mentioned in the reviews. We founded our startup, Workfrom, as a bet that anywhere work would take over the world, and that's happening. In 2016, we launched a popular app to help professionals find great places to get their work done in cities everywhere. A year later, we added a professional virtual coworking community so that people always have others to work around. In 2019, we built a trusted app that helped local coworking spaces offer workspace to the growing mobile workforce. Over the past year, we’ve been developing a new online meetup platform to help even more people connect and to further our vision of enabling freedom, flexibility, and community in Anywhere Work. Today we're publicly launching Virtual Cafes 🕺🏽 😀 🎨 Why? We want it to be super-easy for you to create beautiful places people love visiting — and you love hosting. We all know online community-building only grows from here on out, and we need new tools that let us personalize these frequent get-togethers. Every Virtual Cafe you create is: - Fully customizable to match your vision and brand - Optimized for repeat and drop-in meetups - Able to send arrival notifications via Slack and SMS - Equipped with a front door that can be open or closed The easier it is to love the places we meet, the more connected we feel when we go there. You can start creating your meetup metaverse now at: https://www.workfrom.com/virtual... You can use the code FREEMONTH to get a free month of any plan you ultimately choose. We enable thousands of online meetups each month. We ship new updates every week. We can’t wait for you to start creating 🤗 Here's to your success! ***Update*** Visit https://workfrom.com/browse/demo to check out example spaces.
ronsheridan
I really love this platform. So much so that I registered a domain just to point it to my favorite space. (ronsheridan.live) This is a metaverse experience much closer to reality today than anything than else imo.
Brooke Hurford
@ronsheridan Ron! Your support is unmatched thank you for everything 🤍

Just in the last month, the Virtual Cafes have been instrumental in helping shift a Zoom/meeting heavy workplace culture. The cafes have enabled our team to embrace more of a "drop-in" to get an answer mindset and slowly shift away from the need to schedule a 30 minute meeting for every topic that comes up. Next up, we are looking at using the virtual cafes externally for community building and I can't wait to dig into the branding features more.
Jessica Porec
@nicole_healy That's so great! Love to hear we've been able to help with that shift from defaulting to synced meetings. Thanks so much for your support!
Gonçalo Hall
I'm super excited for the Workfrom Cafes! Being a remote work consultant and a community leader these Cafés help a lot to create different types of events with different goals, it can be a social platform to create meaningful conversations or a deep work session where we use pomodoro to go into deep work together to foster focus and a mission aligment. I am just testing it out for different types of events but I love how flexible the platform is. Definitely the Cafés will help remote companies and communities all around the globe to create meaningful moment together.
Brooke Hurford
@goncalo_hall Thank you Goncalo! Love the way you're experimenting, can't wait to see what you create 🤗
