Are We Relying Too Much on AI to Build Products?

Hey PH community,

I’ve been noticing a shift — more and more products these days are AI-powered, AI-enhanced, or just... AI everything.

While the possibilities are exciting, I sometimes wonder:

  • Are we moving too fast without fully thinking through the problems we’re solving?

  • Are we relying on AI because it’s trendy — or because it genuinely improves the product?

What happens when everyone builds with the same tools and APIs?

Don't get me wrong — I’ve built with AI too, and it’s incredibly powerful. But I’ve also caught myself wondering whether the “AI layer” I added was truly necessary... or just expected.

So I’d love to ask:

👉 Where do you draw the line between innovation and overengineering?

👉 Is AI making us better builders — or more distracted ones?

Would love to hear your thoughts — especially from fellow founders, devs, and product people in the trenches.

I have been thinking about it too lately. It like AI is becoming default Answer for everything. even when the problem doesn't really need it.

Adding AI to a product doesn't mean it will be successful.

If an AI feature helps users reduce the number of steps required for thinking and operation, that is innovation. If it requires users to spend more time understanding and mastering the AI feature itself, that is overdesign.:)

I have noticed I have increasing trust issues in whether posts/comments I read everywhere was made partly or even fully with AI and that makes all content I consume text wise feel so unpersonal.
