Nice idea 👍 I often use music before going to bed, so far with mixed results (sometimes it works, others doesn't). I have a question about the lighting on your video, I thought the blue light makes it harder for you to sleep, and thus the reason why the sleep mode on iOS/Android is yellow by default, is that right?
@alelepd You're right that blue light from screens cam have an impact on sleep! However, in color psychology blue is commonly associated with stability and calm which is why we use it in our branding & video! This doesn't have an effect on our app design, however. If you have night mode turned on while using the app, in-app colors will be warmer and thus help induce sleep.
Hey Product Hunt! I’m Zach, the co-founder and CEO of LUCID. We’re a team of ten in Toronto, and VIBE is our first app! We’re very excited to share this product with you.
Our mission is inspired by our own personal experiences with the mental health system. The lack of accessibility and empathy in dealing with mental health led us to create a product with a different approach - music. 🎶
Our affective music recommendation system uses a neural network to recommend the best music for you, based on your current mood and baseline profile. We consult with experts in AI, neuroscience, and psychology to develop this technology, and are undergoing pre-clinical trials to validate music as medicine.
The VIBE app was created with the principles of transcendental meditation in mind, but it’s really designed for those who find it hard to sit still during a meditation. Our binaural immersive music is originally composed and recorded, with the effect of transporting you to an immediate state of calm.
The modes are customized for your wellness goals:
✨Calm - Relax and relieve stress & anxiety
✍️ Focus - Get in the zone & workflow
😴Sleep - Ease your mind for rest
💪Energize - Boost your energy for movement & exercise
🌴Ambience - Build your own mix of nature soundscapes & binaural beats

"alternatives to traditional therapy"? "music as medicine"? binaural beats? This is yet another music playlist snake oil meant to take advantage of desperate people with pseudo-scientific bs.
@eglove Thanks for the feedback! The market is filled with many products that over-promise and under-deliver, that's why we are fully transparent with our users. Last month we published an analysis of VIBE results to our blog (https://www.thelucidproject.ca/p...) that showed a marked reduction in anxiety markers and improvements in valence (positive mood).
We're conducting clinical studies (Aug '20 results; RCT 2021), and our advisory board is full of experts in music, machine learning, and mental health (You can check them out here https://www.thelucidproject.ca/team).
We're tirelessly working to make our dream of Medicinal Music a reality, but we know we have a way to go to achieve that mission.
User of the app here:
I work a high paced office job, tough on demand very detail oriented. I've found myself using this app which has calmed be down throughout the day, refocused my thoughts and kept me on task. Great app for anyone that's feeling anxious and needs a little break from the noise of life.
Also found it helpful for creative hobbies on the side. Found this app and tracks effective layered with background noise of the patio.
Frequent user of VIBE and sometimes have anxiety attacks which are hard to manage and recollect myself. Whenever these attacks happen, VIBE really helps with the selection process of how Im feeling and the musical frequencies to match my emotions. Would like to see some more development in the UI section otherwise , near to perfect mental health musical therapy app, would definitely recommend to anyone going through something similar!!
@will_pau Hey William, thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I would love to have your feedback in terms of UI/UX improvements. We've also been considering releasing support for wearable devices to increase personalization... would like to know your thoughts.
@wantshes We have several artists, some internal and some contract, that write, compose, produce, and master our music. Our AI models play a significant role in optimizing the music for the functional/therapeutic outcome. We will be publishing data from a study looking at our unique audio beat stimulation & binaural beats methods in Sept 2020.
@zmcmahon That sounds great. I've got a friend doing her PhD research in that area, seems a promising field. Will follow your updates on Twitter, best of luck with your study!
@hleb_mashkou Thanks for the comment! We don't have support for Russian language on the road map at the moment. We're hoping to deploy to Android after our next two major update cycles.
