Funny how digital companies inevitably go physical. I was recently speaking with someone about this topic as it relates to D2C ecommerce sites like Warby Parker and Casper which innovated by focusing entirely on online commerce. Now they're opening their own physical stores in order to serve different customers and expand their reach.
@rrhoover I think there will always be a desire and need to interact with products in person and in-hand. It's fundamentally the desire to connect with a product hoping for a positive interaction before we commit to a purchase.
(In context with Warby and Casper)
I wish that debit-card stacking wasn't so frowned upon by card networks. Pre-paid is a bummer, and it limits what/how tech companies can innovate.
That said, giving users access to their Venmo balance ASAP is gonna be pretty neat, especially for the underbanked users. Excited to see where this goes!
This reminds me of Google Wallet circa 2015. Did anyone else have the Google Wallet debit card? Nevermind an American Express Black, I loved my white Google Wallet debit card. Pained me to see it go.
If this functions the same as Square Cash's pre-paid card, I think it's a step away from predatory"features" like over-drafting.
And making these temporary holding places for money more useful helps get around archaic multi-day waiting periods to access your own money.
Does anyone know if this card will have the same issues as the Square Cash "debit-card"? Like not being able to be used at places like car rental companies because it is labeled as a pre-paid card?
