You pointed the mask has UV-C, right? I am not the expert here, but i have read it somewhere that UV-C has a negative effect on a human. I believe you have thought about it but would like to hear more.
Boz Zou
@foolery Yes it has a UV-C. UVMask has a fully light sealed design so UV light will never leak out from the inner component of sterile-vortex.

@foolery @boz_zou I'm a backer and love this idea. A few questions around the UV-C component however. - Can you go into more details around the security measures you are putting in place to keep the mask "light sealed"? - What testing has the product been through to confirm that this holds up during everyday use? Over time, when dropped or bumped, in high/low temperatures etc. - Will filtration testing and ozone/emissions testing be made publicly available?
Boz Zou
@karlnislow Thanks for your support Karl. As for your questions: -UVMask has a fully light-sealed design so UV light will never leak out from the inner component of sterile-vortex. Also, UV-C light is 265 nm is not the same harmful UV as the primary component of sunlight that reaches us on Earth (UV-A and UV-B are dangerous). -Impact tolerance is 1.5M drop test we conducted impact/drop tests as well as temperature tolerance tests in house. -As you know there are a lot of researches referring that UV-C doesn't render ozone. We will consider having a public test.

@foolery @boz_zou . There are discussions about effectiveness of UV light on virus, but, just discussing, do you have any independent testing lab reports on your UV mask, how do you know your UV actually kills/remove/disable Coronavirus? Can you provide proof.
Q Nguyen
@foolery @boz_zou @karlnislow I am trying to figure if this UV mask actually does what it says. Any any certified lab test report verify the UV mask actually does what it says? Without a certified test lab report, it is just “UV kills virus, every one know”, this does not mean much, people can get sick because they think the UV mask can protect them. I have seen many Kickstarter campaign , use filter test report with 99.99% filtration efficiency to fool people. The 99.99% filter does not mean much of the mask does not have good filter to mask seal. Air will always chose easy path to get to people lung, unfiltered air can get through the leak. That is why we need test report from independent certified test lab

Hey Product Hunters! Boz here, founder of UM Systems and creator of the UVMask. Excited to be here! We began this project 2 years ago, as the next obvious step in UV-C purification tech. We took our UV sterilization experience from industrial and medical settings, and began developing the most powerful real-time active anti-viral UV-C sterilization face mask. In industrial and medical settings, powerful UV-C lights sterilize large spaces over long periods of time. The challenge here was to create a small, portable device that could purify air faster than you can breathe. UVMask’s core tech lies in its Sterile-Vortex. Filtered air is passed through here, where it is purified by 2 proprietary ultra high intensity UV-C LEDs (2x 25,000μW/cm2). With its 2 onboard rechargeable batteries, it can provide active purification for 6 hours. UVMask also features a FFP2 (the equivalent of NIOSH N95) passive air filter capable of filtering particles 100x smaller than a grain of flour. This includes pollution, pollen, and PM0.3 particles. We didn’t expect this current crisis, but we are glad we developed this in time to help as many people as possible get through it. We hope you’ll join us in creating this ground-breaking clean air technology. I’m happy to answer any questions and gather suggestions.
Lucas Gerbeaux
@boz_zou How often do you need to change the passive filter and how available (& costly) are these?
Boz Zou
@lgerbeaux Hi Lucas, How often you change filters depends on how you use your UVMask. See the recommendations below: *Low use (occasional use while going out in public): Change every 2-3 weeks *Medium use (wearing consistently over the course of a week): Change weekly *High use (wearing for multiple hours a day): Change daily for best protection You can get 10 filters pack for $12.

@boz_zou When can we get a refund? We have already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. You have collected everyone's money, failed all deadlines, and still have not delivered a product that we backed. Now that the Lites are starting to be received the design flaws are being very apparent. WE WANT OUR MONEY BACK!!! www.uvmaskscam.com
Tyson Donneaud
@boz_zou @richard_havens let:s join the class action lawsuit. This guy should be locked up in my opinion.
Evan Besser
Obvious question, but does this kill the COVID virus?
Boz Zou
@evan_besser Hey Evan, The UVMask breaks down the DNA of all airborne pathogens and purifies the air. And as the virus Covid 19 is one of the pathogens the UV-C light works effectively to destroy it.
Dexter Wang
Interesting product. UV-C creates ozone, how do you test this to make sure that this is safe?
Karl Nislow
@waking_hour I'm not very informed on this subject but found an article that seems to imply that this is not the case. (http://www.uvresources.com/blog/...)
Boz Zou
@waking_hour @karlnislow No, UVC does not render OZone, ionization or any other chemical changes to air. (Many research or references can be found online). And the research Karl sent is a good reference.
Kurosh Hashemi
I love the idea. Given air travels pretty quickly through the mask, and with only 50mW of UVC, it seems insufficient. How have you scientifically proven that the dosage of UV light is appropriate for the applications? UVC LED's are notoriously low power / inefficient, thus why most UVC LED's need a very long exposure to get enough "dose" and why UVC LED's are not yet powerful enough for most applications. Sorry for the technical q's - I used to lead UV LED's at Philips / Lumileds
Ryan Chaliff
I want the mask but don't like the black color of it, any chance you have other colors?
Boz Zou
@ryanchaliff Hi Ryan, we also have Jet White available.. You can check it out on our campaign page.
Sven Kudszus
This Campaign looks suspicous... Descriptions from the team in the Campaign are pictures- to make it harder to google the names? to not find something?
Boz Zou
@sven_kudszus Hi Sven, you can check our update #3 about our team and factory history https://www.kickstarter.com/proj...
Q Nguyen
@sven_kudszus People need to ask for independent and certified test lab report to ensure the masks does block more than 95% of Coronavirus. People should ask thay direct question. Does you mask block more than 95% of coronavirus? Do you have independent & certified lab test report Don’t let the campaign owner get away with “in direct answer” If the UV mask campaign owner confident about their product, their answer should be direct. If the campaign owner dance around, we can see he is not sure
Q Nguyen
@sven_kudszus I agree with you They just have filter test report. Basically, any one can buy filter from over 20 suppliers in China, get the SGS test lab to test the filter and post on their campaign. It is kind of intentional misleading A poor design mask can use 99.99% filter will not pass NIOSH N95 test because of the leak between the filter and the body of the mask.
Tyson Donneaud
@sven_kudszus it is very suspicious. Definitely a scam. Multiple class action lawsuits are in effect.
ryan sneddon
All these new masks are awesome but this looks like the coolest one ever
Boz Zou
@sneddymobbin Thank you Ryan!
John Rmith
How long can the mask be used? And do i need to change the filter?
Boz Zou
@johnrmith With normal usage, the UMask filters offer 40-50 hours of protection before filtration efficiency starts to drop. How often you change filters depends on how you use your UVMask: - Low use (occasional use while going out in public): Change every 2-3 weeks - Medium use (wearing consistently over the course of a week): Change weekly - High use (wearing for multiple hours a day): Change daily for best protection
Q Nguyen
@johnrmith @boz_zou Do you have any data, test data to support your answers 40-50 hours? Can we verify the tests ?
Stuart Hunt
The fan is ineffective making no difference to air flow, and is soo loud that the mask is unusable. The money back guarantee is only being honoured in cases of provable financial hardship
Adrian Sebastian Volcinschi Moros
When changing the filter the UV-C doesn't leak out?
Boz Zou
@adrian_volcinschi The UV-C light never leaks out. Additionally, you need to keep the UV-C light, while changing the filters in order to keep you and the mask safe.
Ziomik
At the time of purchase you could read: "30-day satisfaction guarantee". I have received the product and I am not satisfied and I have requested a return. This is the answer from them: Hi xxxxx, We have carefully reviewed your case. However, we are unable to grant you a refund at this stage. We are doing everything we can to solve issues and to continuously try and improve. Kickstarter and Indiegogo are not online stores. Creators and Backers work together to improve the product and make progress. Crowdfunding allows us to take an idea from the drawing board and turn it into something feasible. During the development of such an intricate product there will be ups and downs. This is to be expected, nonetheless we will always put in the effort to try and rectify matters the best we can. We thank you for your support. Kind regards, UM Team
Sona Madoyan
Looks pretty impressive
Boz Zou
@sona_madoyan Thank you
Max S.
What happened to his mask at 1:25? He removed it for that scene?
Boz Zou
@m_stole Ha, we got you! If you stop and look closer you’ll see that he’s wearing a mask and the straps are over his ears. Glad to see they are almost invisible ;)
Sam Cast
Really amazing, and no glasses fog? What a lifesaver!
Boz Zou
@sam_cast Thanks a lot :)
Langford Morrow
@boz_zou Great product concept, but it looks like the kickstarter link is landing on an error page, organic search works though
Boz Zou
@langford_morrow Thanks for letting know, it's weird, on my side it works properly.
Daeshawn Ballard
This is really cool tech. I know I would love a reusable solution with better protection. I have a real estate based business and I'm construction sites and in real estate that is in terrible/unhealthy shape to breath in. This would give me a great deal of peace of mind. Will there be influencer/partnership opportunities for commission?
Boz Zou
@imdaeshawn Thank you for your kind words. We have an affiliate program in Kickbooster. You can check it out with this link, we're giving 10% commission https://uvmask-inactivate-9999-o...
Toby Robertson
