Hi Product Hunt family! For those unfamiliar with Univerbal, itโ€™s an AI language learning app thatโ€™s like having your own private tutor. Our main focus for this overhaul was putting the language learner in the driver's seat. Additionally, we put a lot of effort into balancing what learners are keen to talk about with what educators know are the most beneficial language skills to focus on at any level. What do you want to learn? ๐Ÿค” We worked hard together with language educators from the University of Zurich to find a way to create a curriculum that focuses on what the student wants to learn AND what's the most important language skill (from a didactic point of view) to learn at any given time. Achieve your Goals ๐Ÿฅ… You clearly know what skills youโ€™re working towards at point in time and how you can progress in those efficiently! If you don't feel like working on that specific language skill, no problem! Have a go at a different one, do a practice exercise or chat with your AI tutor about your day. It's all in your hands! Your study plan ๐Ÿ“‹ You can create or edit your study plan whenever you feel like it. If youโ€™ve have been studying for your TOEFL test, but now need to prep for an interview, just edit your study plan and it will always keep up with what is most relevant to you! Get your speaking speed boost!๐Ÿš€ The number 1 thing we hear from our users is that with the first 2 weeks of using Univerbal they get a confidence boost and feel much more comfortable talking in front of other people. If you get stuck or freeze up during conversation or are too shy to even start a conversation with someone, you might want to give Univerbal a try. To celebrate the launch, weโ€™re giving everyone 30% off on the 3M and 12M plan at this link https://chat.univerbal.app/checkout with code STUDYPLAN (only valid on web). Tell us what you think, here, in the app or on Discord. P.S. We support all these languages currently ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ American English, ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Dutch, ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท French, ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช German, ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท Greek, ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Italian, ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น Portuguese (Portugal), ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ท Portuguese (Brazil), ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Spanish, ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช Swedish, ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ Czech, ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Danish, ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฎ Finnish, ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Indonesian, ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต Japanese, ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฑ Polish, ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ด Romanian, ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ Russian, ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ท Turkish, ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ Mandarin Chinese, ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Ukrainian, ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท Korean, ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด Norwegian Bokmรฅl Let us know which ones to add next.

@hadjimina Seems like a cool learning experience; exactly what language learning should look like in 2024! Congrats on the launch!

@hadjimina Anything involving interactive learning is a charm. Great product and would get my hands to do a dip check. Congrats on the launch, Philipp!

Amazing product! I imagine using Univerbal to improve my Japanese skill in the future :D Does it also support correct pronunciation?

๐Ÿ’ก Bright idea
Looks really cool! I had the test flight version ages ago, and it looks like it's come a long way! I would love a "hands free" version for more advanced learners where you can just chat in your target language while running/cleaning apartment/washing dishes etc without having to look at a screen. Keep up the great work โญ๏ธ
Philipp
@alex_cyphus Yeah...that was ages ago that we did an open testflight ๐Ÿ˜…. There is already a "hands-free light" mode I'd say where you can set it up for auto-submit and auto-recording but it's not 100% the same as a complete handsfree mode that you might be able to use in a car. Putting it on the feature request list ๐Ÿ˜Š

Congrats on your launch! Practicing orally is often the most difficult part of learning a new language, so I believe this is a great way to tackle this issue. If possible, do you plan to develop some real-time oral conversations (like if you were on the phone, for example) functionality with the AI to take it further?

@hadjimina and the team have been working tirelessly to deliver an experience that's ACTUALLY valuable and accessible where many others have just focused on one over the other. This is what seperates it from the rest - it's personal, cutomizable, and adapts with you to get the most out of it. Can't wait to see where it goes and continue following their journey!
Philipp
Thanks for your support @harrison_telyan

Google Translate has been my go-to in foreign countries, excited to try Univerbal out as an alternative!
Philipp
@wirrie funnily enough I have heard form users that actually stopped using google translate and are now just using the tutor to ask questions.
James Yang
@hadjimina This is a cool concept and seems like an actually useful way to implement AI into every day use cases like language learning! What languages have the largest learning library at the moment? and naturally, how does Univerbal differ as an experience to something like Duolingo?
Philipp
@jamesyang8 That's a great question! Personally, I don't see Duolingo as the competition. I see online tutoring platforms as the competition. We are really focused on making the highest quality of langauge education more accessible and nothing beats 1:1 tutoring. So while Duolingo uses a ton of gamification to keep people engaged we focus on people actually getting more confidence in speaking in personalized conversational practice.

Univerbal sounds fantastic! I really appreciate how it creates an immersive language environment and helps me improve my pronunciation. The personalized study plan is a great feature, especially for targeting specific skills. However, I feel like this app might be best suited for those with some foundational language knowledge rather than complete beginners. From my experience with other language apps like Duolingo and Drops, those seem to cater more to new learners, while Univerbal feels like an advanced tool for building confidence and consolidating what you already know. Excited to keep using it and see my progress!
