Once upon a time, Twitter was "Lite", before all the GIFs and videos.

Twitter is taking on slow connections speeds with Twitter Lite. By the numbers: - 30% faster - up to 70% less data usage - takes up less than 1mb of storage

This is super nice. I can just imagine the team inside Twitter gathering around with the task of making packaging up Twitters core essentials into the smallest, most accessible app yet. An exciting challenge and from the sounds of it the team have done a superb job. And also in general, it's great to see Twitter shipping again. It seems like there's been an internal culture shift here, from "we must not touch the sacred Twitter" to "lets iterate and really solve people's problems". Congrats to all at the team who are a part of that.

Great not only for slow connections, but also for roaming charges when you are in a different country. Less data usage means less cost!

Thank goodness! I will use this even when I have faster internet on-the-go.

It's pretty dope that they partnered with Google to make this. Maybe Google will acquire them *wink wink*

Twitter should have done the Coca-Cola thing and called this Twitter Classic.

This is great. A very small percentage of users actually have a fast and/or stable Internet connection. This allows those users to also browse with less hassle. What an amazing challenge the team at Twitter have had to meet. 💥

I wonder if this will increase Twitters reach into international markets where bandwidth is even more of an issue.

I have been using twitter PWA (Mobile site added to home screen from Chrome) from past few months. Twitter lite looks like the same thing with added features just marketed with a different name. Happy this update adds much needed push notifications. It is good to see Twitter not leaving mobile site behind unlike others (Fb and the like) who are restricting access on the mobile web with every update.

This looks really great and is honestly a pretty enjoyable experience even on a laptop. I'm interested to know what is actually removed from the main version? Why can't the main site be Twitter Lite?

Love it. However, you cannot switch between accounts. The workaround is to open one profile in incognito and another not.

This PWA is just one awesome art of the web that keeps me hopeful. Used by many talk shows on "Web Technology" This app i more than just twitter but a real example of a powerful, fluid and well designed web-app. Just delete your native app and get this. If you hate i, you can sue me please.
