Hi Everyone! Daniel here, co-founder and CEO of Topia. We’re excited to share a bit about our journey in creating Topia, the spaces we’re enabling, and where we plan to go. 👣 How we got here — We started Topia in March when we wanted a more meaningful way to connect face-to-face in a way that felt fun (and could still be used productively), while also being interactive, and more human. At the beginning of the pandemic, we turned to traditional video conferencing with our communities and quickly grew tired of using business tools to socialize, getting trapped on calls where only the loudest person talks, and….the zoom fatigue was real. We craved a more human way to bring people together, something that more closely resembled getting together in person. ⛓️ Rooms without walls — In Topia, you simply walk around to meet and talk to people. You aren’t confined to a single room where one person talks and everybody else has to listen. Seamlessly move in and out of conversations and experience spontaneous chats, unexpected meetups, and moments of serendipity. 🎨 Fully customize your world — Each world can be fully customized using our library of assets or ready-to-use templates or upload your own art or branding to make it uniquely yours. There is no limit to what you can create in Topia. 🤹‍♀️ Create interactive experiences — Relationships are built through shared experiences. Topia enables world owners to create fully interactive worlds by adding video, audio, embedding games or websites, or connecting a network of Topia worlds together. 🌎 Come explore with us today — We invite you to explore Topia today. We’re co-hosting a Spatial Media Symposium inside a world that we created just for the PH community. Hear from technology creators that have become space makers; creators from Second Life, General Assembly, Reddit, Ticketmaster, and more. To join, click this link: https://topia.io/producthunt. Topia is currently only available using Chrome browser on a desktop computer. Thanks for checking out Topia! ~Daniel

So proud of you all @dliebeskind! Topia is absolutely incredible and so much fun to explore and create in. The human interaction feels much more authentic than Zoom. It’s been so amazing to watch you create such magic and bring so many people together. I can’t wait to see what’s next and I need to start building out my SYZYGY world asap!
Mari Matsuzaki
@dliebeskind Great concept, will give it a try! Thanks for sharing :)
Daniel Liebeskind
@dliebeskind @livesyzygy thanks Karissa - excited for you to create some SYZYGY magic in Topia!

💜 Topia more than words can convey. Here's been our journey so far... On May 9th, @dliebeskind texted me the link to Topia v0. Within weeks, we’d moved all of our gatherings and community in-world. On May 30th, it became the virtual venue for our engagement party. In June, I hosted my birthday party on/in Topia’s Burning Man demo. Through July, we started creating in-world apps and experiences. In August, we spent a week playing on Topia’s pixelated Playa. By September, we’d started investing in all types of “surreal estate”. In October, we were chased across worlds by Samara from The Ring. In November, my partner and I hosted our 11-day wedding festival in our world. Today, we’re hosting the Spatial Media Symposium entirely in-world. We are so happy and grateful for the endlessly expanding canvas for space creation that Topia enables. ‘World Building Services’ are now our agency’s primary revenue generator and we’re continuing to invest heavily in surreal estate. Today, you can share space with us (https://inc.one), the Topia team, and leaders from Second Life, Reddit, etc. in https://topia.io/producthunt. Come, let’s go for a walk.
Daniel Liebeskind
@brianswichkow Thank you for hosting and running today's Spatial Media Symposium! It has been a great journey so far - we're excited to create more tools and technology for you to continue building spaces and investing in Topia surreal estate :)
Danielle Diamond
@brianswichkow thanks so much for holding space today and coordinating an amazing group of humans to share their expertise on some really cool topics. Check it out here: https://topia.io/producthunt

@dliebeskind @brianswichkow The events that you've been running today are very fun. Super engaging. Thank you so much!!
John Zdanowski
Hi, I’m John Zdanowski, former CFO of Second Life, General Assembly and numerous other startups now profitable or sold. I’m also a Founding Citizen of One Inc Cooperative. I met Topia and Daniel in-world through our community, One Inc Cooperative, and—through it—became a CFO advisor to, and an investor in, Topia. We’ve been gathering in Topia almost every day since. Topia’s basic ability to move around a world from conversation to conversation is simple and elegant. I’ve enjoyed going to events and serendipitously meeting new people during quarantine. The aspect of Topia that I’m the most excited about is the Creator Economy. Soon, Creators will be able to use Topia’s revenue share platform to monetize their worlds, events and artistic creation. I’m grateful for all the space Topia has made and am excited to support the company more and more as it continues to grow!
Daniel Liebeskind
@johnzdanowski we're lucky to have you on the Topia team. The Creator Economy we're co-creating is going to unlock so much value for artists, programmers and world builders. I grew up a big believer in what you and the Linden Labs team did with Second Life and hope Topia can be an evolution of that dream.
Danielle Diamond
@johnzdanowski Thanks for paving the way with Second Life 🙌🏻
Mike van Hoenselaar
We are currently building a 1.500 people experience that will happen this week. We created over 100 custom assets already to make it feel like an adventure. Highly recommended and the team is very willing to listen and keep developing great stuff.
Daniel Liebeskind
@mike_van_hoenselaar Very excited for this and love all your great feedback Mike. Keep it coming!
Brian Swichkow
@mike_van_hoenselaar this is amazing! Would love to share space and sync after to hear your reflections and exchange learnings. We found ourselves creating new objects so quickly that we had to automate the folder creation/management of our shared drive. It's been such a fun creative canvas and unique challenge. Would love to play with you!
Chris Psiaki
@mike_van_hoenselaar we're excited to continue supporting you and your events! What you've dreamed up so far is great and we can't wait to see what's next!

Topia is obvious. And it’s delightful. Back in April, Daniel shared an early version of Topia with the #Quaranteam community. It was an instant hit for our happy hours because it allowed us to communicate naturally, as we would in person. Since then, I've hosted everything from an Oxford alumni reception, to a COVID hackathon, to my best friends’s (super-intergenerational) 40th birthday. And in all cases, Topia causes smiles. You’re a chubby little creature popping a squat at a campfire, or strolling along a river running into friends. And that's WAY better than landing in a flatland of faces a video conference call. (And a guaranteed refreshing reprieve from our now-common enemy of Zoom fatigue.) Yes, it’s a more human way to Zoom. But what gets me excited is that Topia opens up an expansive landscape for designing truly social experiences. Consider the bar raised for online events -- no doubt, invites will be coming to our inboxes very soon!
Daniel Liebeskind
@animasarah thank you for such a thoughtful reflection and for being an early supporter of Topia. Thank you for your seemingly infinite energy, wisdom, and passion for bringing people together.
Danielle Diamond
@animasarah your support has been so impactful for our team! Thank You 🙏
Justin Mendelson
Back in August I joined into the Topia world to watch the man burn and it was then that I recognized the magic of what you guys are doing here. I'm beyond happy and proud of @dliebeskind @cpsiaki to see this grow into something so meaningful. Keep up the momentum boys!
Daniel Liebeskind
@dliebeskind @cpsiaki @jp_mendelson Thanks Justin! If you think Burning Man was cool (it was), you should definitely come check out the Spatial Media Symposium today in topia.io/producthunt
Chris Psiaki
@dliebeskind @cpsiaki @jp_mendelson Justin! Thanks for the support! We're happy you've been dropping by and have been able to see the evolution
Paul Hamilton
Like a lot of others I started building in Topia for Burning Man getting my camp into multiple of the multiverses including Build-a-Burn At https://vTogether.io we build collaborative working and social spaces across vr platforms and we love Topia Just in the last week we've built and hosted major events for https://technation.io/ and https://wearethecity.com/ in topia with the most fabulous feedback from all the guests This captures how Topia feels - and it is emotionally this real: "It was great. Replicating the networking in a fun and natural way is what has been missing from virtual events. This was every bit as random, fun and awkward as I remember pre-covid networking events to be, so congrats :) Huge success" - it's from Kate Russell. If you've ever watched Click, the weekly technology magazine programme on BBC World, that was Kate; she's one of the world's leading technology broadcasters, as well as a conference speaker (and creator of http://ferrettube.live !!). Kate sees a lot of tech PS. the Topia team are awesome to work with
Daniel Liebeskind
@vtogether_ph thank you for this! It's been such an honor to have you and the vTogether team building worlds and hosting events in Topia. Looking forward to our ongoing collaborations.
Chris Psiaki
@vtogether_ph it's been a great pleasure getting to know you and support your team's efforts with event planning in Topia. We'll continue to do our best to support you!
Sam Kaplan
I've been hosting virtual gatherings online since this #wholecovidthing started and Topia has been what has made them feel most real. The ability to organically move between conversations and discover things you didn't know you were looking for make for the most life like experience you could ask for. Much love to the Topia team and the amazing work they have done to build Our community!
Chris Psiaki
@skaplskap Your world building skills are phenomenal we can't wait to see what you dream up next :)
Sam Johnson
Awesome, absolutely love the idea! Looking forward to play around with this!
Chris Psiaki
@jsam0773 Thank you Sam!
Daniel Liebeskind
@jsam0773 thanks! Come play in topia.io/hunters, where a spatial media symposium is currently being held.
Danielle Diamond
@jsam0773 Thanks so much for the kind words Sam! Let us know what you think once you've had time to play around with it!
Rob Howland
This looks super cool. Great idea!! Looking forward to playing around with it once I've shared it with some friends. ?makers Would it be possible to integrate this with multiple twitch streams?
Daniel Liebeskind
@robatato Thanks! Definitely let us know what you think after you've played around with it. Right now, you can add multiple Twitch audio streams (video coming soon)! Audio can be embedded into any objects in the space. Videos (mp4) can be added to projector and theater assets.
Rob Howland
@robatato @dliebeskind Amazing! I love the idea of being able to set up an online multiplayer stream with friends and stream each of us from different corners of the map so you could wander over from one player to another to see what they're up to within the same game. Would really add to the whole experience of being a spectator.
Dylan Jones
@robatato @dliebeskind Would love to see a full-on game streaming hub world! We've got some folks building something similar, I'll try to find some links! Or share what you create in our discord too :)
Bradley Tramer
The first time I used Topia was for a virtual memorial service. The second was for my sister's wedding party. Since September, my team has used it to host our Friday meetings. Goes to show the use cases are endless. I'm always forgetting I'm in a virtual space - I walk up and introduce myself to strangers, go on hikes with friends, listen to music at parties, explore the scenery, sit by the fire, etc. I can't wait to see where this goes! 🚀
Daniel Liebeskind
@bradley_tramer we appreciate you using Topia for so many different types of events!
Danielle Diamond
@bradley_tramer Thanks for being an early supporter! Appreciate the 💙 Brad!
Jordan Kallman
World building. If you want to create virtual events that people actually talk about with their friends, you need to immerse them in an imaginary social space. An alternate reality they can explore. What sets Topia apart from the other emerging proximity design platforms? Three things: 1. It is beautiful, the aesthetic resonates and it creates a sense of wonder with those who join; 2. It is super simple to adopt and accessibility is a key feature. My 67 year-old mom loves it; 3. You can customize a world within minutes, but the depth of available options for more sophisticated builders is limitless. Since June we have been translating our large-scale festivals to the virtual space and Topia is far-and-away the most impactful layer to our events and gatherings. Plus, the team is the most enthusiastic, helpful and available team we have met across our experience using nearly 50 different platforms. If you choose a technology purely based on one factor, make it the spirit of the founders and early team members. They are simply the best and this product has a long run ahead.
Daniel Liebeskind
@jordan_kallman thank you for the kind words! We've loved every minute of collaborating with you and look forward to the next mind-blowing immersive event you throw in Topia.
Jordan Kallman
@dliebeskind you guys are the best. Looking forward to contributing to the success of your inspired idea for a long time to come :)
Chris Psiaki
@dliebeskind @jordan_kallman We're looking forward to our continued collaboration and supporting your efforts!
Jessica Cail
After a year of Zoom meetings with a dozen friends all trying to speak at once, and only one conversation able to happen at a time (and everyone else forced to listen to it), it's amazing to be in a virtual space where you can walk away from others, and only converse with the people you're next to. Combined with an artistically-created virtual space representing a location of your choice, the ability to wander in and out of spaces and conversations, just as you would in real life, is the closest you can get to a natural interaction as you'll find in the virtual world. In short, this is the virtual hangout you've been looking for.
Chris Psiaki
@jesscail Tea huh? Have you been to topia.io/teahouse ? Might be a silly question! Thanks for stopping by!
Danielle Diamond
@jesscail Wow! This means the world to the Topia team. You really get it! That last sentence is exactly what we are striving to create for users.
Brian Swichkow
@jesscail awww!! Thank you Jess for such warm reflections. I kid you not, this was the first thing I read as I sat back down at my desk with a cup of Immunitea (also mentioned in more than a few episodes of http://futurewifepodcast.com and hidden within out worlds). Thank you so much for being such a warm and loving part of our spaces ❤️
Daniel Liebeskind
@jesscail thanks for this! Wandering in and out of conversations in an artistically-created space is what it's all about
Lina Bell
I loved customizing my world and am always so proud and excited to show it off! I’ve even started using it to host meetings for work and every time I take someone new into Topia I get responses like this one from my coworker: "Thanks again for the Topia walkthrough. IM STILL SO AMAZED. THIS IS GENIUS AND IM SO EXCITED TO SEE WHERE IT GOES". Now we’re hosting our office holiday party in Topia as well! The way it facilitates a more natural, human connection is unparalleled and is the break from zoom fatigue we all so desperately need.
Daniel Liebeskind
@lina_bell excited to hear about your office holiday party! I think we all needed a break from zoom fatigue - glad you're finding that :)
Jeremiah Peisert
I've loved using Topia for virtual meetings (Symposium) and Brian's wedding. It's such a unique and interactive way to gather with friends. Huge congrats to this team and I'm excited to see it grow!
Brian Swichkow
@jpeisert aww, it's been such a pleasure to connect with you in-world and play with your pixels just as we did at those first Symposiums. I am so grateful for this virtual space to share with you and Meghan until we can see your faces IRL.
JJ
Wow, a very cool experience! Definitely feels more "virtual world" rather than just another spatial avatar video chat system.
Dylan Jones
@just2jays That means the world! Thanks! It's growing and growing every day!
Pete Cashmore
wow love it!! 👏
Danielle Diamond
@petecashmore thanks 🙏
Michael Hernandez
Actually a great product. Gives you the ability to have digital experiences with no artistic or physical boundaries. A great friend of mine got married on Topia with hundreds of attendees in a weirdly immersive covid-proof digital wonderland/museum. What other digital platform can allow real communities to connect, have group experiences, and leave lasting memories?
Chris Psiaki
@michael_hernandez2 I was there too!
Danielle Diamond
@michael_hernandez2 Thanks so much or the kind words! Topia has given so many people the opportunity to connect and meet new people in a time when it is nearly impossible to do so in person. I love hearing about community collisions. And, we'll never forget the 1st Topia wedding (definitely not the last)
Quinn Hobbs
Super fun product with readily accessible UI and access.
Chris Psiaki
@dangerousdudesmedia Thank you! More to come!
Brian Swichkow
@dangerousdudesmedia thank you the kind reflection, Quinn! So great running into you and seeing your pixels in-world. Excited to talk more about wine, wonderment, and California living.
Daniel Liebeskind
@dangerousdudesmedia We've some very exciting UI updates coming soon!
Yuliya Dzyachenka
Looks so nice with this vintage black and white cartoon design. And the the level of detail is very high but still pleasant for the vision.
Daniel Liebeskind
@yuliya204 thanks! You can actually customize worlds to look and feel any way you'd like. It has been pretty incredible to see the creativity and cleverness of our community and worlds come in all shapes, sizes, and styles!
Dylan Jones
@yuliya204 We like the black and white because it focusses the eye on color, which are the people! The backdrop is just that - the backdrop. So the avatars (or as we call them, Topi) and people's faces pop out in more color.
