Salad is the easiest, most-trusted way to profit from your PC. Our users (or “Chefs”) turn a wealth of idle compute resources into epic loot—including Steam games, digital subscriptions, in-game loot, gift cards, and more. Seasons update out now!
@rilwan_owolabi1 "This reminds me you the Golem Coin, how does this differ?"
Great question, we're big fans of Golem Network here at Salad and our client is capable of supporting Golem and we plan to do so down the line. The difference with Salad is that we support any number of different crypto projects and protocols, whatever is most profitable for you PC at the time. Whether it's distributed computing, P2P file storage or just GPU Mining (for now), we allow individuals to turn their idle PC time into goods, games, gift cards and digital purchases. So instead of getting golem tokens, you get Salad Balance...and we handle all the config in the background for you.
@samuel_keighley Thanks for stopping by Samuel, and you're spot on - Salad aims to be the easiest way to monetize your PC, and it's up to you where those funds go. Whether you're cranking out visa cards to fuel your Fortnite addiction, or saving up for a Whole Foods gift card to but some Salad with - we put the power in your hands to truly reap the benefits of your hardware.
Now that I've done my company spiel, I'd also add that we're partnering with more and more independent providers of in-game inventory. For example, we just launched an integration with Mantle, a Minecraft cape client, and that's only the beginning. Keep an eye on the Storefront to see if you can get your in-game items/currency directly, as it will often be cheaper and easier than using a Visa gift card.
@rilwan_owolabi1 You're right that the underlying concept is similar, but there are a few key difference, the biggest being:
- Ease of use
- Tokenized rewards (incentive)
- Network size
Salad aims to be as simple as possible, so that anyone from a teen gamer to your grandmother can download the application, hit start, and begin earning. While you sacrifice customization and depth of experience somewhat, the trade off is that there's little friction when onboarding onto Salad.
Second, Salad offers instant liquidity for your earnings. Instead of issuing you a token/coin, Salad translates your earnings in real time to "Salad Balance" - which is just the equivalent value in USD. While it's limited to use in the Salad Storefront, it is immutable - the value of what you've earned never changes once you've got it in your account.
Finally, Golem hovers around ~700 providers online at any one time. Salad is an order of magnitude bigger than that, and is rapidly growing. Part of this is the incentive model (compelling rewards in exchange for uptime), part of it is the ease of use, and I'm sure there are plenty of other factors involved.
Hope that answers your question somewhat - let me know if you want to talk more! Conversely, if you'd rather do your own research, I'd highly recommend checking out our blog - https://saladchefs.medium.com/
@david_grosser Thanks for the comment David - and while Salad is definitely more lucrative for powerful gaming PCs, even a modest hunk of hardware can make the chop. It won't pay your mortgage, but you can definitely put some extra spending money in your pocket with the right build.
