2 Truths & a Lie — A boring team activity by Thursday: Truth or Lie?

Featured

Three statements. One of them is a lie.

1. 2 truths & a lie can only be played on a Thursday.
2. It is more fun to play 2 truths and a lie with my team than by myself.
3. There’s no sign-up, no installing, no ads.

Which one is it?

PH fam! 👋 I’m thrilled to launch 2 truths and a lie today. It is a brand new social activity (we call it a mixer) by Thursday (https://thursday.social/). It is the perfect team-building exercise for remote teams. In the summer of 2021, when we were onboarding and welcoming new hires in a remote setting, we played 2 truths & a lie on a zoom call over our first social (we used to call it chai time). It was a brilliant icebreaker. We got to know each other better. But we wished we could do this in a relaxed setting. Zoom just felt like work. And I had to drive everything. Without any prompts, there were awkward silences and long wait times. We just knew we had to build this the fun way on Thursday 💜. @almost_designer has done a wonderful job designing the experience, and @sarthak_das19 with building it (in React and Go). 👏 We thoroughly enjoyed dogfooding this mixer ourselves. Interesting facts were discovered. Now I know who in my team is an excellent whistler, who has never broken a bone, who has visited over 20 states in India, who’s terrible at blowing balloons, and who falls asleep at work. 😎 Try it out with your team, and let me know what you think of it. Btw, just like with Thursday’s launch last year, this time as well, we built this public PH launch tracker to share our launch data (visitors, countries, browsers, etc.) with you: https://thursday.social/ttal-lau... P.S. I’ll be here all day and will be happy to answer any questions.

Hello PH! 👋 Deepa here, founder of Thursday. 2 truths & a lie is a great team building activity. What I love the most about it is, you discover such interesting things about your team members that would never come up in your regular work conversations. As a designer, it was an interesting challenge to recreate the experience of this seemingly simple icebreaker in a virtual medium. It was fun breaking out of the grid and designing a lively environment. Here's our take on a simple activity of 2 truths & a lie. What do you think?
Pritam Nanda
Team Engagement is a much needed exercise in these WFH times. This seems like a really fun game. Will definitely try it out!

@pritam_nanda92 Yes! Would love know how it goes.
Ali R. Tariq
So cool! We run our 2-truths-and-a-lie games using boring survey tools. This is going to inject some much needed fun into it! Congrats on the launch!
Deepa from True Sparrow
@alirtariq Yes! We don't do boring! We have put in a lot of thought in creating a new experience. Would love for you to try it out and share your experience. Thanks a lot.
Nishith from True Sparrow
@alirtariq what other team bonding activities do you wish to 'inject some much needed fun' in? Always looking for new mixer ideas. 😉

@markus_jenul1 I agree, that is a great way for the new comers to start. Would love for you to try out Thursday and hear from you.
Nishith from True Sparrow
@markus_jenul1 Thanks, Markus! Is there any other social activity as well that's part of your onboarding routine?
Anastasiia Holiachenko 🇺🇦
Hi! I have tried it out, and I have to say that it is so cool! It's a great tool for a fun time with family or your team. Thank you for the reactions, live chat, and no signup. Love it. Do you plan to add other games? Have you considered building a platform for retrospectives with a variety of games?
Deepa from True Sparrow
@anastasiia_holiachenko Wow! Thanks a lot. Yes, we have many more mixers coming up.

@anastasiia_holiachenko This made our day! What other activities would you like to see on Thursday?

This looks like a great way to bond friends and colleagues, a visual interpretation of a super popular game. I like how it's easy to navigate yourself across the app.
Deepa from True Sparrow
@maxine_buchert Thanks!! It was surely a challenge to design 2 truths & a lie. It had to be simple.
Dhruv Bhatia
Seems quite interesting, I'm a baller at 2 truths and a lie btw. There should be a global competition (across teams and companies 😅😊)
Deepa from True Sparrow
@dhruv_bhatia Haha! So we will eagerly wait for your feedback.
Nick
Although I can;t hold a poker face for long but this is too fun to be true 😂 A must have for all remote teams!!!

It looks like a very fun game to break the ice, especially with new team members. Congratulations on the launch!
Deepa from True Sparrow
@jenny_romano Thanks! It is a must to with new team members but even with the existing teams. I just found out who has never broken a bone and who almost flunked college! ;)
Pedro Henriques
Congrats on the launch Nishith, Rucha, and team! Really important to have off-work topic ways of building team dynamics for remote or partially remote teams. Thanks for building and sharing :)
Nishith from True Sparrow
@pedrobh Thanks, Pedro. Well said. Couldn't agree more. Fun is a real good tool to build relationships faster and help people feel connected.
Alina Matvieieva 🇺🇦
Wow this is so nice product! In a team we really struggled to find games that we can play on our online teambuildings (because we are working remote). We've tried ellias, garlic phone and some others, but it quickly become boring) Thanks for a cool game to play next time! 🔥🚀
Nishith from True Sparrow
@alinama Thanks, Alina! I bet you are going to have a brilliant time. The question though is.. would you be able to keep a poker face when your chance comes? 😁
Katie
This is super fun, specially for remote teams! Great product! Congratulations 2 Truths & a Lie team! 👏🎉
Harshit Beniwal
@katiem Thank you Katie, try it with your team and let us know how we can make it even more fun! 💜
Daniel Illenberger
Excellent idea, team building is more challenging with remote work and tools like this are needed. I can’t wait to see what other mixers you have coming out.
Deepa from True Sparrow
@daniel_illenberger Team building does not have to be challenging. Will wait to hear your experience!
Shubham Kushwah
This sounds fun! Especially when you've just finished a big feature sprint. And now it's time to chill out.
Deepa from True Sparrow
@shubham_kushwah Totally agree! Would love for you to try it out.
Nishith from True Sparrow
@shubham_kushwah are you all working remotely? What do you do right now at the end of big feature sprints?
