Based on traditional business banking, I think everyone will agree we all need this yesterday.
But, as someone working with the US business banking system, I can assure you we need this more than you'd even think.
It's completely fucked up on an infinite number of levels, and I'm confident @btmerr and @hollywoodcpa can solve this.
@hollywoodcpa@stefanobernardi Thanks Stefano. We started SEED because we are dedicated to helping business owners thrive.
We agree that traditional banks have been holding the business community back for too long. To offer a better way, we're building our service in the best interests of the business owner and orienting everything we do around what is best for our members.
As someone working in the FinTech sector, I would give this a hundred upvotes if I could. That said, I do have some questions:
- how do you envision the role that traditional banks would play in a world that has SEED in it?
- Do you plan on partnering with banks in order to integrate your APIs with their infrastructure? If so, do you see that banks have the appetite to do this?
- Would someone be able to use SEED APIs if he/she is NOT a customer of a bank that is currently partnered with you?
- What are some moonshot solutions that you'd like to see built with SEED APIs?
@alirtariq Thanks Ali.
- We partner with an existing bank that we have not yet announced. They do our treasury and compliance. Our model allows for partnering with multiple banks, but our goal is to serve the business customer, not to sell our software to banks.
- We will co-exist within the international banking system, but we'll also seek to embrace and enable new technologies that can solve problems better than the existing system, such as blockchain based payments.
- From the customer perspective, SEED will be your bank. Any business based in the US can apply for membership.
- We're excited about enabling better automation in banking, accounting, and business running. We've imagined many ways that existing business workflows can be improved with software and integration within the SaaS ecosystem. Imagine a one click sign on to Xero, with all of your data already there, or a payroll system that posts the same day instead of 3-5 days later. We see the bank as the center of a business, and by providing a banking platform that enables integration, we hope to be part of the ongoing innovation in SaaS and business services.
@tehsin681 We're only available in the US for now, but we plan to expand internationally.
We're building our stack with support for multiple languages and currencies from the start, and our platform is flexible enough to work with any bank partner, so we hope to serve you soon!
Let me know what your specific questions are about costs and ACH, or drop me a line at brian@seed.co and I'll be happy to help.
@katie_bolin Hey there. We love Plaid but we're different. In short, we compete with other banks while Plaid offers products that add value for existing banks and their customers. SEED and Plaid would be good customers for each other, but we won't be competitors.
Zach and I recently fielded this question on Hacker News. Check out the comment thread to read Zach answering this in his own words.

Hey there, I'm Brian Merritt, CEO and Co-founder of SEED. Ask me anything!
We launched our API last week, and our first members are working with it. We're inviting new members as quickly as possible, so please join the waiting list if you'd like early access.
We're hard at work on our next launch. You'll hear about it first here on ProductHunt. :)
We'd like to offer the ProductHunt community a special offer. When you sign up, respond to the email to let me know that you found us via ProductHunt. I'll put you on our early access list and we'll give you your first three months free.

Awesome, been looking for something like this. Can you share anything additional about your background and roadmap? Who's your target customer?
We would love to work with a more modern business bank. Our current bank doesn't provide much value so looking forward to seeing how SEED develops.
@ac132 Thanks Anthony.
I've been in the tech industry for 20 years. My first experience of the Internet was a blinking cursor in a unix terminal, before the web existed. Since then I've seen the bubble, the bust, the boom, and everything in between. Most recently I was the 2nd employee and VP of Engineering at consumer banking startup Simple, where I learned that there are many problems to solve in banking beyond helping out consumers.
Our target customers are startups and SMBs. Our API is primarily useful for the community of startups that have been seeking to automate and integrate their banking activity, but we plan to provide traditional online banking apps soon. We'll be mobile first and will seek to make it effortless to manage your business banking.
Beyond the traditional banking services, we have some exciting plans that go beyond what banks normally do, all oriented around saving you time and money and making managing your business delightful.
We hope to have you as a member someday. Thanks!
This seems like such a perfect fit for the family businesses I’m starting. They denied my application for one of them. Maybe the other one will still go through
