TIME just launched this site targeted toward millennial women. More details in their announcement. Interesting to see them focus on Pinterest, highlighting a Pin button within every article's hero image.

@rrhoover Yes! Huge focus of ours. We know that a big chunk of our audience is on Pinterest (we all are, too!) so we wanted to make sure we included that in the design in a big way.
Callie Schweitzer
@rrhoover And thanks so much for posting this here!

@cschweitz would love to know the impetus behind launching motto. I would also be interested to know a bit about the process - how long did it take you to go from concept to launching the site?
Callie Schweitzer
@corleyh So many things to say! PROMISE to respond!!
Callie Schweitzer
@corleyh 7:39 pm on a friday night...perfect time to respond, right?! :) so we've been talking about this idea for a while -- but on a smaller scale. we've always known that the habits of the people in the time 100 were something that people were really interested in -- how did they get to where they are? what were some of the pivotal moments in their lives? false starts? big breaks? etc. but people were also really interested in more of the "micro" moments of people's lives -- not so much the milestones -- but more of the day-to-day. habits, routines, tools, hacks, etc. and over the last 2 years, we've seen a huge amount of interest in pieces we've published on these topics -- how to be more successful in all aspects of your life. when we looked more closely, we noticed that the readership was overwhelmingly millennial and female.

yawn...producthunt REALLY needs a separate category for Wordpress, simple content and assorted gimmick or single serve sites...it would take care of this, sound bite sites, curated collections on other sites, and the many clones that bubble up

@passingnotes that's not a very nice thing to say. Complexity doesn't make something more useful or meaningful. Of course, you're entitled to your opinion and not everything upvoted by others will be appreciated by everyone (in fact, often the most useful things are only appealing to a subset of the audience). This is one of the reasons why we're adding more personalization to Product Hunt. Soon. 😊

@rrhoover @passingnotes Even if you assembled all the "gimmicks" (David's word, not mine), what would that look like on PH? Does that mean the site should also be broken up based on which front-end and back-end was used? Based on subjective thoughts on simplicity vs complexity? No, that makes no sense. The only thing that would make sense is to use metadata and ml to make discovery of similar products easier based on information and usage - but you also don't want to add too much friction every time someone adds a new product. Keep doing what you're doing PH. Be agnostic to how it was made, and focus on helping the community discover and decide what is meaningful.

@rrhoover I hear you, but really, there are at least three content aggregators per day - in the same stream as products with physical attributes and production savvy, or complexity in code or hardware engineering - it just seems sad to see some guy integrate a physical counter with online APIs and compete with a Wordpress install with a tweaked theme...it would be nice to not simply call it all football, but rather separate the nfl from high school

No RSS feed, seriously? No RSS means something I simply won't read regularly, so it's not worth my time checking no matter how good the content might (or might not) be. I do like their categories though (work, play, live).
Leon Hitchens
@etis Why is RSS a must? News apps like Flipboard, Apple News, etc have made RSS a antiquated system. I would much rather follow their Twitter and use that as a way to see new articles.
Eti Suruzon
@leonhitchens I agree the apps you've mentioned allow a similar solution, but some of us old-fashioned people still use RSS with apps like Feedly. For me it's an absolute must, not to say it's ridiculously easy to implement.
Callie Schweitzer
@etis @leonhitchens hi there! we do have an rss feed! will grab the link and get back to you soonest! thanks so much for looking into it, anyway!
Callie Schweitzer
@etis @leonhitchens hello again! here we are: http://motto.time.com/feed/ hope you like what we've published since wednesday! thanks for reading!

This is a fantastic name, even the lowercase type has a beautiful rhythm to it. But launching the site as a subdomain of Time, not so fantastic.
Callie Schweitzer
@gladrobot I'm so thrilled to hear you say that!! Credit is entirely to Alex Ho on the logo design -- https://twitter.com/mralexho
