This would be great if it worked. I first tried it with German and was disappointed to get a relatively low score (around 50/90) both times. Then I tried it in my native language, Greek, and got a score of about 50/90 again. I'm a native Greek speaker and speak it fluently. If the app gives me a score less than 85/90 (to account for acceptable error), then the app is wrong, not my pronunciation. 😉

@anna_0x Thank you for your feedback. German is my first language as well and I double-checked and just scored 75 out of 90 points. Was there any background noise when you recorded by any chance? You can listen to your recording before you click 'Score' to check the sound quality.

@markus_koy hm there was the sound of fan in the background, but it was steady and not loud. Still, even a score of 75/90 for one’s native language sounds a bit low, doesn’t it?

@anna_0x I have lived in British Columbia for the last 14 years and have developed a bit of an accent. 90/90 points really means you would need to pronounce every word perfectly. If you ever get the chance to try the app one more time without the fan in the background I'd be interested in your score. Thanks again for your feedback.

I have been looking for something similar for so long. Let me make sure I am getting it right: - I send you a mp3/wave file with a student (our app users) pronunciation - You respond back with an evaluation of the student's pronunciation and score - This is currently free?! In the current (beta) build of the app we use Azure cognitive services to do this, why switch to The Fluent? Best of luck
Markus Koy
@ahmed_zain_mohammed Yes, this is free for app users. thefluent.me not only provides pronunciation accuracy but also reading speed assessment. Is this a feature Azure cognitive services offers as well?
A. Zain
@markus_koy Sorry, but how/why for free? This is not necessarily a good thing - for big projects - because the user cannot hold you accountable.

@ahmed_zain_mohammed Thank you for your feedback. thefluent.me is free for web app users. Organizations that would like to use thefluent.me subscribe to the API and they can choose from different paid plans.

The Problem: Speaking fluently is the hardest part of learning a 2nd language because traditional pronunciation feedback usually requires a teacher/ classroom setting which is not accessible to millions of learners, is a slow and costly process, is not scalable, is prone to bias, is subjective, speaking in front of a class makes students feel uncomfortable, requires travelling/ commuting, cannot be done at the learner’s schedule and pace. The Solution: thefluent.me allows learners to practice anytime, anywhere, get instant feedback on their pronunciation and reading speed, with overall score/ reading speed, with word-level score/ reading speed assessment, with objective tracking metrics. Listen to previous recordings, transparently earn badges for good results rather than subjective marks, enjoy a fun experience by competing for badges with classmates, earn shareable certificates, save costs for tuition fees, travelling/ commuting, accommodation.

I like the equity aspect of bringing the classroom/teacher benefit to the individual....congrats!
