If you're not familiar with Marc Maron, he runs one of the best known podcasts in the business. He frequently interviews comedians and actors, but recently, he landed a much bigger guest: Obama. This is truly a great conversation.
One of many classic WTFs. The subtitle is a little clickbaity, shouldn't we emphasise the first presidential podcast interview, rather the shock value of him using the N word?
A big moment for Marc for sure!
Technically, this wasn't Obama's first time being on a podcast. He even ran his own for awhile: https://www.whitehouse.gov/podcast
Great Listen - the timing (just after Charleston shooter) led to an honest Barack. Leaving looking forward to after his presidency when he can be even more honest.
This was excellent. I find it hard to imagine any of the current slate of candidates coming across this well in a candid, informal conversation like this -- Obama just seems like a great, thoughtful, pragmatic guy.
Seeing this I had to comment. I LOVED this episode. I went to college at Occidental College (President Obama attended Oxy for 2 years, it's often credited as being where his interest in politics began). So hearing him talk about Pasadena and Eagle Rock and LA and his college days always makes me nostalgic. I remember the 2008 election like it happened this year. I guess that happens when you're watching the electoral returns in the common room of the dorm the then President-elect lived in. Really great podcast, really great memories. And I think podcasts as a medium (being in your ears) makes this even more personal and special.
It's a really great listen. Especially when Maron talks about The President smoking when he lived in L.A. And when Obama says that Shaft was one of his favorite movies back in the day. Very candid and it feels like another WTF episode...but with The President.
It's been awhile I said I should listen to that podcast. I've never listen to Marc's podcasts but this one is really inspiring. We will remember Obama as one of the greatest US president in the next few decades for sure.
