We tried Slack, but we're cheap, so we tried Ryver (free alternative). Ryver sucked in many ways. We'd been using TeamWork projects for a while, so when they released a beta Chat program, we tried it out. Then Ryver became a paid service, and it was obvious TWChat was the replacement.
Now our business basically functions around TW Chat and Projects.
The browser app is amazing. It does notifications, drag-and-drop file uploads, even copy/paste of screenshots right into the chat box. They have native apps, but you really don't need them. The browser app is that good.
Their customer service team is also super friendly, knows the product inside and out, and response time is better than average.
Pros:
FREE!!!, Fast, Great mobile app, integrates with TeamWork, browser-app does everything desktop apps do
Cons:
Mobile app could handle spotty cell service better (but it's still great!)
Eric,
Thanks for the amazing feedback 😃 It's great to hear that you're loving the products and that the support team here at Teamwork.com are delighting you!

Simple the best project management tool around. Easy and built with enough platform integration to make it a great portal for what I do. The biggest asset is the tech service, folks are very helpful, knowledgeable and most importantly responsive. Worth the investment of $$$ and time to get to know the platform.
@carl_batt we're delighted to hear you're impressed with the software suite. Teamwork Chat's integration with Teamwork Desk and Teamwork Projects is definitely a major bonus! Thanks a million for the positive feedback and for your praise of our customer support team 😄
We're a team of 15+ and have been using Teamwork Chat for well over a year now (having switched from using Slack). Overall we are very happy with it and love the fact it stores our entire chat history.
Pros:
- stores unlimited chat history
- native iOS and Android apps work really well
- free!
- can add task directly into Teamwork Projects
Cons:
- doesn't have nearly as much integration with other tools as Slack does
Will,
It's really great to hear that Teamwork Chat is helping your team collaborate and keep track of important information. Thanks a million for taking the time to share your feedback 😃

Great product and very easy to use and to educate others on using. Simple and sweet. Very clean and has some great features that enhance the projects module like channels for a specific project.
Pros:
Very simple and integrates nicely with projects. Replaces text at work and seperates work conversations from personal chats.
Tom,
It's brilliant hearing that you find Teamwork Chat intuitive and that the Teamwork Projects integration delivers value. Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback.

Needs volume control for notifications, and a lot more settings for notifications and other things too.
Need to be able to create a new message faster.
Need to be able to filter/choose a message and start typing faster, preferably all while on the keyboard.
The next things are more minor, but I think important down the road.
Need more options on the message bar to make features obvious.
Maybe add ability to type out code (copy paste works great).
Need a link to a feature list or tutorial for new users to explain all the possible things you can do.
This may be just a personal opinion, but in the UI, a channel and a conversation are too similar. Given that their features are very similar as well, if they serve different purposes then I think it would be best to somehow highlight their differences by not having them filtered and sorted in the exact same way just in a different tab. In general, I'm not sure about the 3 tab system - or maybe I just need it to be better explained. I spend 99% of my time in the conversations tab.
Pros:
chat features are great
Cons:
lack of many settings, can't create a new message fast enough
Hi Lýdia,
Great news — you can actually name a group conversation AND use emotions in the desktop app 🎉
To name a group conversation: create a conversation or open an existing conversation, then select the settings icon at the top right of the conversation window. From here you will see the option to name the conversation. *Note - only the creator of the room can rename it. If you aren't the originator of the room then you cannot rename it.
To add emojis to your messages if you type : into the message field, you will see a list of emoji suggestions. This list will update as you type more characters, for example, :b. You can find a full list of supported emojis on this cheat sheet. As well as those listed on the cheat sheet, traditional short emojis such as :) and :( are also supported.
Let me know if you have any questions?
Gráinne 😃

Slack runs the risk of getting bloated like Evernote did.
If you use it as research base, integrate the key features, leave the rest out and find out the one or other magic sauce for teamwork chat specificall you will be more competitive and resource efficient.
