A gamified todo list app designed to make productivity fun—especially for people with ADHD. Instead of just a boring checklist, you unlock trees birds & cosmetics by completing tasks, planning your day & focusing on the timer.
Hey Product Hunt! I'm Nolan, founder of TaskTree. I launched my first product here about 14 years ago and somehow since that time I became a Lead Product Designer, educator, and build in public creator using a crazy way of making a product: comments on TikTok to crowd-source feedback. (Find me on TikTok/Instagram @radnolan)
That’s how TaskTree started through a comment asking for a couple features on this concept I made. It ultimately lead to a bustling community that drove us to over 75k users with a 98% task completion rate.
Though, I still felt like another todo list in an insanely crowded market was struggling to break through. So we’ve re-built TaskTree from the ground up and we’re just getting started. Soon, you’ll be able to collect more critters for your trees, have streaks with skill-tree-based habit tracking, and so much more.
This is a passion project for me and hope to be tinkering for years to come with this!
If you want to jump in and help shape TaskTree with us, make sure to give us a follow on TikTok, Instagram, or X/Twitter (@tasktreeapp)
I’m Nima, co-founder of Bestofweb .site – a curated space where we highlight standout projects and the minds behind them. I really liked how TaskTree blends productivity with play, especially the idea of skill-tree-based habit tracking. It's clear you're building something personal and community-driven. We're supporting your launch and invite you to check out our directory.
@bballinger As someone with ADHD myself, I can say that what keeps me going is constant rewarding feedback—and it has to be fun. TaskTree works well because it turns everyday tasks into something engaging, giving that little dopamine boost that helps us stay on track.
@isabel_engineer yesss I'm so glad you see value here! We've tried to avoid pitfalls of stress/anxiety and focus on the dopamine of earning/unlocking new things mixed with cozy upgrades. Hoping it all comes together!
@bballinger thank you! It's funny because I personally don't have ADHD, but all this started from TikTok comments. I was posting app concept ideas and a video started getting a lot of comments from folks with ADHD asking for this feature and that. We kept working and refining and here we are!
From my understanding and research, people with ADHD struggle to have internal motivation and are moved when feelings of novelty and urgency. We tried to lace in lots of feelings of novelty by collecting lots of accessories and upgrades for your birds and soon we'll be releasing streaks and habits which will (hopefully) help drive the urgency side of motivation.
@kyrylosilin Haha thank you! It's funny all this spun out of a series of comments and I originally was going to make it a game about collecting fish, then someone said "as an ornithologist I would love birds" and after googling what that meant, here we are with a bird-based todo-list game 🤣
TaskTree feels like the perfect “gentle nudge” productivity app—those little birds you earn are surprisingly motivating, almost like a pocket-sized dopamine hit for each completed task. 🚀
I’m curious: have you thought about adding a weekly leaderboard or team challenge mode? Friendly competition might keep momentum high without overwhelming solo users.
The built-in Pomodoro is a smart fit, too; it already meshes with the reward loop. One small suggestion: a quick post-session reflection (“What distracted you?”) could help users spot patterns and refine their focus over time.
@kay_arkain absolutely! I don't have ADHD myself--and I'm completely biased here--but having been using the beta for the last few months, it's changed my productivity so much
This gamified todo list app is a game-changer! 🎉 Turning productivity into a fun adventure by unlocking trees, birds, and cool cosmetics makes staying focused so much easier—especially for those of us with ADHD. 🌳🐦 The planning and timer features keep me on track without feeling overwhelmed. Highly recommend for anyone looking to boost motivation and make task management enjoyable! 🚀✅

The birds look very cool! What inspired that approach and why is it better for people with ADHD?

One of the cutest gamification apps I have seen (I dare to say that cuter than Duolingo) :)
Wishing you a successful launch day!

😍 Love the concept—turning productivity into a game is such a smart way to stay motivated, especially for neurodivergent users.
Quick question: how does TaskTree reward users?
TaskTree
@isabel_engineer hey there! So hearts are the "in-game currency" which are used to unlock birds, accessories, and tree upgrades.
You earn hearts by planning your day (adding 3 Lines to your agenda), by completing tasks, and focusing on the pomodoro timer.

Gamifying productivity is such a smart move! 😄
