Super Teacher - More effective than a private tutor

by

Now everybody can have private tutoring, not just the wealthy. Super Teacher teaches conversationally, and with lots of visuals, just like the best teachers. Includes lessons in reading, math, art, poetry, science, social-emotional skills, geography and more.

As a dad, that wants the best for his kid without breaking the bank, I'm really excited about Super Teacher. Private tutoring is only feasible for the rich. That’s always been the way it is, and it’s never been fair. But self-directed learning from books isn't responsive to a student's questions and challenges, or even possible for kids before they learn to read well. Super Teacher means my kid can have a tutor that listens and talks to them for just over $4 per month on the annual plan. It's a virtual teacher that is fully automated but can use a natural-sounding voice and lots of visuals to walk kids through lessons before they can even type. Super Teacher calls my kid by their name, asks smart questions that test knowledge but also make them feel like they're succeeding. And it's not just talking through some standard online course. Super Teacher reacts to answers, diving deeper where kids need more help or skipping ahead when they immediately understand. Best of all, it's making my daughter associate screentime with active learning, not zombie consumption...as much as I love watching Moana every day. It's got lessons across a bunch of subjects like reading, math, and science, but also social-emotional skills, art. and poetry. If you've got a kid ages 3-8, definitely try it out and let Tim and the team know what you think!

Thanks for the kind words and for the hunt @joshconstine!

@joshconstine @timnovikoff Sounds like you have a lot of the same concerns as me, and I really relate to the idea of not spending time like a zombie. My kids are 3 and 8, so I'm going to try this right away!
Tim Novikoff
@elly_cho My kids are 4 and 7 and have taken hundreds of lessons. I hope your kids like it! They are at the extreme ends of our target age range, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that at least your 3yo will love it right away! Please try it and let me know what you think!

@joshconstine Congratulations on the launch! Education should be accessible for all and this product does just that. All the best :)

Hi everybody! The mission behind Super Teacher is to offer unlimited private tutoring for an affordable price. I know the idea of a virtual tutor may sound crazy or far-fetched, but this app really can, already, teach children to read, do basic arithmetic, and much more. My daughters have taken over 200 lessons in the app, including lessons in math, reading, drawing, poetry, science, social-emotional skills, geography and more. We hope to one day offer content in every subject, for every age, in every country, in every language, and on any platform. We’ve built our technology to support that goal. Today we’re launching in the US, in English, on iOS, for ages 3–8. The price is $4.17 per month with an annual subscription. I’m really excited to be launching this after over 18 months in development. I can’t wait to hear your feedback! And if it’s not available where you live but you are interested in trying it with your kid(s), please let us know where you think we should launch next!

My son is taking his first tentative steps toward reading. I'm finding this app to be an immense help and I think will imbue him with a sense that education can be both fun and rewarding from an early age. Given its low subscription price, I find it perfect for my needs as a parent.
Tim Novikoff
@dave_kennedy1 That's awesome, thanks Dave! Is there any way we can make the product better?

I'm really excited about this app. I've tried different educational apps with my kids, but most of the apps just have them tapping on the screen. This is the first one we've used where the kids are fully engaged. The teacher calls them by their names when asking questions - just like a real teacher would - and that puts smiles on their faces. But the app really stands out by having the teacher adapt the lessons for each kid. My daughter is a bit ahead of my son when it comes to reading, and when they took the same lesson, the app asked my daughter more challenging questions, while giving my son a bit of extra help. We upgraded so that each of them can have their own profile, keep track of their progress, and even earn awards throughout the lessons (my son is obsessed with collecting them all). Definitely excited to see how they grow with the super teacher!
Andrea Christmas
@holyholycats Absolutely! It's incredible to see students having actual, engaging conversations with a teacher that last more than just a few seconds like typical AI (Alexa, Siri, Google Home). Conversations on this app can sometimes be up to 20+ mins in a lesson!
Marcus Schorow
@holyholycats Glad your kids enjoy it; that's amazing to hear! We may be rolling out some new ways to view and interact with awards over the next few weeks - keep an eye out and be sure to let your son know :)

I've been beta testing this for a couple of months with my son, and it has been a great experience. He likes a lot of the lessons, but I think the most exciting moment was that the app helped him count *things* for the first time. Like, he could count from 1 to about 6 or 7, but if I asked him How many apples are on the table? he couldn't answer. But the app showed him how the numbers matched the objects (with some simple animations), and somehow it just clicked. It's amazing (and a little embarrassing) to see an app teach him something in 15 minutes that I failed to teach over the course of several weeks.
Tim Novikoff
@jonathan_fein Haha, thanks for the kind words Jonathan. If it makes you feel better, the teachers who create these lessons on our platform take dozens of hours over many weeks to create even a single lesson. So it's taking us weeks too! (The difference is that once a lesson is created for Super Teacher, it can then go and teach millions of kids at 15 minutes apiece, without further input from the writers, because the lessons are fully automated.) I appreciate your support. If there's any way we can make the product better, please let us know!
Jonathan Fein
@timnovikoff Hmm. So far, we're just enjoying the lessons. I guess just keep making quality lessons, and we'll keep taking them!

I've been using Super Teacher for my daughter. She loves the stories and lessons. It's surprisingly good value and super easy to use. Will definitely be recommending this to others.
Tim Novikoff
Thanks @ben_crowley! Let me know if there's more you'd like to see in the app!
Redzuan
The app is really easy to use, and the interface is user-friendly. Bright colorful images will definitely make my kids love coming back to the app. And the super teacher giving lessons is just perfect!
Tim Novikoff
@furfur0x Thanks! Let us know if you have any feature requests or content requests!
Vilnis Bicevskis
Nice work! Some extra math for the school kids helps :)
Dan Markowitz
@vilnis_bicevskis Thanks for checking it out! Part of the goal is to make the content way more engaging and personalized than just doing practice problems: when using the app, kids really feel listened to, and the teacher can adapt to whether they're struggling or ready to be challenged more.
Sheena Yeo
The content sounds natural with engaging lessons which will help foster visual and auditory learning in children. The subscription plan is also affordable, will definitely recommend it to my family and friends with young children!
Liang Clement
Great ! Can't wait to see this app go live ! with such inexpensive subscription fees many will benefit from the app. Will definitely introduce this to my peers with kids !
Dan Markowitz
@liang_clement Thank you! We're really trying to help all kids benefit from the personalized experience of having 1:1 time with a tutor, without being expensive or needing to schedule times to meet.
Catherine Markowitz
My daughter absolutely loves using Super Teacher! She now asks for it over watching TV and I can see the progress she is already making through the lessons. I love how creative and educational the content is and how engaged she is!
Niko Ziozis
@catherine_markowitz That's great to hear Catherine! Does your daughter have a favorite lesson or course?
Catherine Markowitz
@niko_ziozis she LOVES the Unique Unicorn! She's only 3, but she's also enjoyed some of the lessons on Greek mythology. She can tell you all about Narcissist!
Tobby Yi
As a former educator that saw educational inequality compound for my students through the course of education, very excited to see a solution that is affordable and focused on helping students early in their educational journey!
Andrea Christmas
@tobby_yi Great point! This is making quality tutoring affordable and accessible for so many students!

I have been searching for a product like this for a long time. A thoughtful and engaging educational app for my daughters that individualises to their different learning needs and has an intuitive interface. I am sure my daughters will be fully immersed in the program and find it fun and rewarding. As a parent, I wish for my children to get ahead in life in this competitive world. This app will help do just that.
Tim Novikoff
@ming_chang_yu I appreciate your kind words. I hope Super Teacher can help you achieve your goals with your family. Thank you for your support on Product Hunt. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for features or content to add to the app!
Mary Pat Campbell
I like the concept -- one wants effective practice for kids, and I always thought one use case for AI would be something like more responsive educational apps. I'm intrigued.
Tim Novikoff
@mary_pat_campbell thanks. Try it out and let me know what you think!
Mary Pat Campbell
@timnovikoff I just downloaded it -- my son is autistic, and I think he may really enjoy this. The social-emotional skills look like what he may like. Yes, I know it says age 3-6, and he's 16, but it may be appropriate for where he actually is, cognitively.
Tim Novikoff
@mary_pat_campbell We have seen some kids with neurodivergencies take to it, for example kids with selective mutism. Please let me know how things go with your son. And if you think it could be better for your use case, let me know how. This is the type of feedback I am here for!
Aaron Holiday
It’s been amazing beta testing Super Teacher with my 6 (now 7) year old. It was amazing to watch him learn how to carry the one when adding, completely taught by a fun animated character. The app shows that learning can be a lot of fun on apps. Parenting is hard and products like this really democratize access to core education that should be free to all kids. Thank you for building education at scale! :)
Tim Novikoff
@aholidayiii Thanks Aaron. I appreciate your being the very first to support this product when it wasn't even started yet. Thank you for your support on Product Hunt!

@mansi_trivedi1 as a parent, I know what you mean by "a lot of educational apps post COVID"... (i'm still finding them in random folders on my iPad). We really do believe that Super Teacher is different in a good, it's-wholesome-screen-time way - that was the idea. Thanks for the kind words - and if you do get to try the app, please let us know what you think!
Andrea Christmas
As an educator, I find the the lessons to be interactive, engaging, and personalized! The lessons adapt to the specific student's needs. For only $4.17/month (with the annual plan) it's MUCH more affordable than a private tutor. The variety is exceptional. Lessons range from reading, math, science, social studies to drawing and even social-emotional learning. It's an impressive collection! The app is now live on the App Store and can be downloaded here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/su...

Congratulations on the launch! Super exciting for us all. My daughter absolutely loves it and can't wait to use it more.
Tim Novikoff
@eilidh_crowley Thanks! That’s wonderful to hear. If there’s any features or content you would want us to build out next, let me know!

The world needs more nutritious and delicious apps like this for kids! As a dad, I'm super grateful to see this sort of thing. Showing it to my kids, I was surprised how engaged they were right away.
Dan Markowitz
@jasontoff Thank you! Kids really love when Super Teacher addresses them by name and responds to what they're actually saying. Our goal is for all the content we make to be really high quality kids content, engaging and educational while still being fun. Thanks for checking it out!
Dzianis Yatsenka
Hi! Congrats on the launch! Can I learn some difficult things like programming using Super teacher?
Tim Novikoff
@dzianis_yatsenka Great question! Not yet, but there's nothing about the technology that makes that impossible. Right now we are focused on ages 3–8 and the subjects that are taught at that age. As we increase the target age range to towards K-12, we will include more subjects including programming. Great question!
Tim Novikoff
@dzianis_yatsenka You're welcome. Thank you for the great question. Please spread the word about Super Teacher so we can get to all that good stuff (like coding lessons) sooner rather than later! :-)
