Howdy Hunters!
We started Sunsama because we noticed how easy it is to feel like you’re spending a lot of time at work but not getting much done. It’s hard to have productive days with all the distractions. It’s exhausting to feel like there’s so much more work to do than there is time to do it. And it only gets harder when you’ve got to coordinate with your teammates. This isn’t how work should be.
When we first started, we focused on meetings, and how to make them a more productive use of everyone’s time. As we’ve grown we’ve been able to expand our focus. We’ve been building a product that helps you answer the question, “What should we work on today that’s the best use of our time?” and then guides you through your work for the entire day.
We’re proud to announce this product is now ready for the world. We call it the “Daily Kanban”. If your calendar and Trello had a baby, this would be its love child. The Daily Kanban is a new take on task management that's built around your daily workflow.
Here’s a quick rundown of how it works:
You create tasks you want to work on today. As you work, you check off your tasks, moving them out of your way. Tasks that are completed stay locked to the day they were completed on, giving you a record of what work was done that day. Tasks that aren’t completed automatically roll over to the next day. When you walk into the office the next morning you’ve got a list of stuff to start cranking on right away. If there’s something you don’t want to work on now, you can bump the task back to a future date.
You can organize your Kanban by person (to see what everyone is doing each day) or by channel (to see what’s going on in a particular project). You can link your channels in Sunsama to your channels in Slack to share your work with your team.
And of course, the Daily Kanban fits into the broader Sunsama Calendar Platform, which means you can take advantage of other features like:
- Scheduling events and sharing calendars
- Planning and documenting meetings
- Slack and Github calendar integrations
We’ve been at our most productive since adopting the Daily Kanban internally - we hope you’ll give it a try for yourself, and let us know what you think!
@thepriyadarshy hey I really love this but when I try to sign up I get an error that the Auth doesn’t work via Google 😞. I’m using an iPhoneX and safari. Happy to send you a screenshot via email
@thepriyadarshy awesome. Very few apps have this approach of "daily kanban", the only one I know is teuxdeux, which development has stopped. If you can refine the experience (less bulky tasks, more information displayed on the screen, multiple backlogs per project). I could include the platform in my tools (asana, google calendar...).
But daily kanban is the deal, don't really care about the calendar personnaly has I don't have many meetings. The team feature is more for my manager as I don't really need to have visibility on what my colleagues are doing.
@thepriyadarshy one thing we talked about already is viewer permission levels. Admin's see everyone tasks, team leaders see each other's and regular members and members only see their own and any "public" tasks for instance. Otherwise you have to remember to mark tasks private, but then other team leaders can't see them, at the same time you don't want the secretary viewing everyones tasks in the co... Otherwise a really intriguing tool!
I love what they call "daily kanban", it's the more clear and visual way to manage a todo list for me. I like teuxdeux for that. But teuxdeux development is stopped and the product haven't moved for a long time.
Pros:
daily kanban visual approach is my favorite one for todos
This looks like a really cool tool that adds a bit of structure to a free-form app such as Trello (which we currently use). The app itself is still too underdeveloped to be useful in a real-life setting — at least for our team — e.g. no attachments which is a real deal breaker for us, but it shows promise.
PS
Please at least choose better wording with your calendar management feature, as I just accidentally deleted a very important Google Calendar because I thought I am only deleting it from your app, and not the actual Google Calendar! In fact, why would you allow me to manage my Google Calendar from your app in the first place?
@draganbabic Hey Dragan! Thanks for the feedback, adding attachments is something we'd like to do. Besides attachments, are there other items that you feel are deal breakers in using this in your team's setting?
We'll definitely take that under advisement. We built Sunsama with the idea that you could go the whole day without opening up Google Calendar, that's why we allow you to manage Google Calendar from there.
@draganbabic@thepriyadarshy Hi the ability to create checklists within each card is something that I think is important as well. Was just going to switch , then I realised that I can't move my repeatable checklists around like trello. Thank you.
Your landing pages doesn't show the pricing. I would like to know how much i will be paying if i want go for the paid version before I sign up. Is it freemium or just a trial or etc etc. Maybe a page listing the price would be helpful.
Hello Ashutosh, congrats on the launch!
Q: Does it make sense to use Sunsama without the team for getting things done? I use Trello for managing my weekly tasks and Sunsama looks way better for this - mostly because it's connected to calendar / dates...
@agilek Hey Mike! You certainly can use Sunsama without a team (and a lot of people do). There's nothing you stopping you from setting up channels just for yourself and organizing your tasks that way.
@pupeno we've got integrations with Slack, Trello, Asana, Github and Google Calendar. Next ones up will be deeper integrations with Trello/Asana. Hopefully Station and Hubspot as well.
Great concept Ashutosh!
I love the idea of displaying tasks on the y axis and time on the x axis. That combined with the Kanban UI makes for an interesting mix. Going to give this a try 🙌
@ksbrooksjr thanks we thought it's pretty cool too. there's not a lot out there that uses time as the x-axis and tasks on the y like this. so once you use it let us know how it feels; we'll be happy to improve things, we're learning as we go here.
@ajaffarali thanks for constructive feedback. We heard a lot of requests today for recurring tasks from fellow hunters. It's something that certainly fits in quite naturally to the theme of sunsama as the home for the tasks you want to work on each day. We'll do our best to bring it to life for you.
Been using Sunsama religiously for the last six months or so; likely we were one of the first paying customers. The addition of Daily Kanban perfect – no more agenda item-based standup notes. Our distributed team is able to rely on the Daily Kanban to see and share our daily activities and set priorities.
Can't wait for their OSX app and JIRA integration.
@tymrtn Thanks for all your great feedback and thanks for bearing with us the past couple days as we deal with an onslaught of traffic and signups from here; we're almost done upgrading all our infrastructure. Hopefully the net result of all this PH excitement is we can turn up the rate at which we crank out a great product for your team!
Just checking this out and I think it's absolutely awesome. Like! I've been going between trello and getplan exactly because trello does not have a center where all your individual cards that you ought to be working on from the different projects report. Awesome!.. Please do you guys have any plans for a mobile app? getting the broader teams to adopt this may be challenging if there is no app. One more thing I'll like to request, can we have transferrable checklists within each task (Just like trello?)
Oh my god this method of organization is exactly what I've always been looking for but could never quite find... I love you all so much, thank you for reading my mind!!! 👏
@gnowland glad we could make something you've been looking for. as you start to play around with it, let me know how we can make fit your workflows better!
I thought it was a cheap ripoff of Sunrise Calendar (may it rest in peace) but it's not. I think it will replace my Trello and Calendar. Good thing is that the icons is very similar to Sunrise's so I can still remember it.
I was a fan of Sunsama's UI/UX for a very long time. I thought they are new Sunrise app. I really enjoyed making meetings and tasks there, making teams. I liked to close/open panels of list of calendars and event. There were no any ridiculous popups and there was everything I need for running meetings and be on top of my notes. Actually, I was very inspired by that layout and I as showing it to my clients and co-workers as a best example. Also, there was no need in app, because of mobile version (incredible).
Previously I thought that Sunsama needs to make font darker — this was only issue I had. Hug your designer 😘
Now, unfortunately, I see more problems: didnt find how to hide panels, meeting in a popup, modes (Tasks&Calendars, Tasks, ect) that I need to switch (why??). Previously everything was in one place, now it feels like Jira.
I am glad you are on PH, wish you millions of users and happy Pi day 💫
@nel_kamai Hey Nelly! Thanks for the kind words and the critical feedback about some of the new product pieces.
You are right there are two new options, previously in Sunsama you could either show the tasks, the calendar, or the calendar with the tasks next to them. We've added the options to see the view configured with calendar, tasks, or tasks to the left of a calendar or calendar to the left of tasks. The good news is once you pick a view you like, you can leave it that way and won't need to keep toggling it :)
@thepriyadarshy I'm a daily Trello/Slack user. I was using a piece of paper to list my to-do tasks at the top and the below the To-Do was my day broken into the hours, which i would then fill in my tasks to accomplish. I was looking for something to replace this system with and I love what you have done here. I would love to see the ability to have a checklist option with-in a task ticket.
@adamwebber got it, thanks for that details. couple notes:
- we've got checklists inside a task ticket as a roadmap item
- if you open up sunsama in tasks + calendar view, you should be able to drag and drop tasks on to your day :)
