I love this! I usually just wing it and eat street food but an app that gives you the "ok" would make me feel way more confident about what I'm eating....and not need a bathroom nearby as much.
@heikohaller at the moment I’m working on just Bangkok and then Asia but we hope to start working on Asia next year. Towards the end of 2021, we’re also going to work on translations in different languages for the guides too
Congrats on your launch! How does Streets of Food compete with "standard" reviewing apps, especially if it is not free at the moment? And is it only available in Bangkok? What is the expansion plan?
@rubenwolff thank you! Great question. Our street food tour company A Chef’s Tour and the cooks and chefs we work with in those locations is invaluable in helping us to cut through the culinary noise and pick the best spots to recommend on our online guides. On top of that, there’s also user reviews so if a particular spot isn’t getting good user reviews we’ll revisit it to see why and if it is still a good fit for the guide. Good street food spots are usually very consistent though. At the moment Bangkok guide is up (though there are more spots that will be added in the coming weeks). I’ve also started work on Phuket and Chiang Mai and hope to expand into other parts of Asia later this year. It’s one step at a time, but if I find the guides are popular, I’d like to continue expanding city by city with the help of local food writers, cooks and chefs.
What a great idea! I love eating street food whilst travelling. This will be the website I will go for. The pictures of the food look very appealing, the description of the vendor share real insight and make me want to go there! Ps. the logo looks good too!
Hey Product Hunters,
👋 My name's Luke and I'm the founder of A Chef's Tour (www.achefstour.com), a street food tour company creating daily culinary adventures across Asia and Latin America led by passionate local foodies, cooks and chefs.
🛩️ Like the rest of the travel industry, the pandemic hit us hard and while travel has taken a hiatus we've turned our attention to producing guides to the world's best street food starting with Bangkok, the undisputed street food capital.
🍜 The guides were inspired by one street vendor on our Bangkok food tour. Her ramshackle backstreet stall was only known to a local crowd (and the guests on our tour). She had taken over the same spot from her mother 50 years earlier selling wonderful old-school shrimp noodles found no where else in the city. One day she retired and her noodles were no more. She deserved more recognition for her lifetime dedication to just one dish.
🛠 The site is in v early stages, but users can discover and navigate to street food recommendations using map pointers, detailed directions and Google Street View. There's more development work, further recommendations in Bangkok and new city guides in the pipeline. And I'd like to see self guided street food tours and recipes in the future.
😋 Our guides are paid, but for a limited time we're offering all interested Product Hunters FREE lifetime access to our Bangkok guide and ALL future city street food guides. If you'd like to be added to the waitlist for free access (coming soon), message us at hello{@}streetsoffood.com.
Not all street food is made equal. Forget bland pad Thai and mediocre green curry. These are the places you need to be eating.
Thanks and happy eating,
Luke @ Streets of Food
Something I was always looking for! My love for street food is above anything else. This app would be great while travelling to new cities. Some of the best, most authentic food of any place is its street food. Would love to know more about the locations available on the app?
@gupta_ayushh I totally agree. Really pleased to hear you think it will be useful. At the moment, I've only got the Bangkok guide launched, but there are more cities to follow soon so stay tuned.
@ruben_calzacorta1 I do too, street food is utterly fantastic. I’ll let you know for sure when we start work on Europe. Hopefully that will be next year
As a foodie myself, this app is such a cool idea to explore new undiscovered places filled with exotic flavor and taste. Love the fact that it has timings and ratings too.. Is it available for India yet?
@nataliekarakina thanks! We plan to check the information at least once a year and update any changes. Im also launching a feature where users can report any changes too.
