Hey fellow makers! 👋 I had this random idea 2 months ago to build a private twitter for myself. I really liked how twitter made it easy to share my thoughts with everyone but there was a lot I didn't necessarily was interested in sharing publicly. After a few weeks of contemplating this idea, I decided to go ahead and build it. I then sent out about 20 beta invites to some of my friends. A few weeks later, the number of beta testers has grown to more than 150 people and I've managed to tap into a whole new community of twitter power users who think publicly and use Stream & Twitter frequently. Top Features that makes Stream super helpful: - Messaging style UI to make note creation super simple - Supports Audio notes and transcription via Speechkit framework - Supports images - Search - Ability to spin threads - Privacy - All data stored on your phone Would love your feedback!! P.S. the app makes typewriter sounds as you type 👀

I’ve been using it for a few weeks to add little notes that I revisit later

Pros:

It’s great to be able to type thoughts out quickly with a UI that’s inviting to create

Cons:

I’d like to be able to toggle the typing sound or have it disabled when my ringer is off

@hipcityreg @amrith It seems like people mainly use it for twitter drafts. A friend of mine who blogs said half of his ideas went through Stream which was very encouraging. I can also see people writing poetry/rap, feels like a great medium for that. I personally use it for new ideas, venting out, writing down new insights, etc.

Looks very simple and clean! Congrats on launching on Product Hunt! 2 questions for you. 1. What would you say is your pitch for someone already using a journalling platform like Day One Journal? 2. What made you decide to start with iOS?

@marcoafabrega Thanks! 1. I've tried Day one a few years ago when it first came out. Stream is way more simpler, and has way less friction which makes it perfect for all kinds of random uninhibited rambling thoughts. Day one feels like a proper journal and you need to think about things before typing in. Subtle differences. 2. I'm an iOS developer, a lot of my target users had iPhones, I can also do a lot of cool things with speech to text, computer Vision stuff locally on device rather than using an external API so it was a no brainer :)

Vidy is great and I'm sure he will continue to improve the app, as he has been doing already for the last month. WOOH

Pros:

It's tough to find a good place to store random thoughts, which stream is great for.

Cons:

I don't like that you can't shut off the typewriter noises-- it should only happen when the ringer is on.

@amrith Sure - I originally wrote a longer comment, which PH discarded after log in :( The problem is the main Courier New font, which has poor legibility, uses a lot of space, and is just a bit too Windows 3 (it was specifically designed for low resolution displays). The default font that the Notes app uses would be a good default choice. If you want something a bit typewritery, something like Roboto Slab works better on modern displays.

Pros: - it can be whatever you want it to be (use tabs). I created tabs based on topics I usually think about - find myself writing down thoughts more often since the design allows micro-actions - incredible to see thoughts develop over time about a topic when reading through the history - it's possible to hide tabs, I use that feature when I feel I'm done with a topic Cons: - this will end up being a feature request/tweak list, I'll pass on that. Give this app a shot, you'll love how much more productive it enables you to be! If you don't love it, I'm sure the coffee/beer is on Vidy!

@vd_thatte awesome job. I love the typewriter feel and overall authentic writer vibe it provides. Would suggest adding more skeuomorphic design elements. I imagined I was in Red Dead Redemption while writing my ideas 👌🏽

I do most of my twittering on desktop, and that's where I think up tweets that shouldn't go live but I'd love to write them somewhere, so I'd be into having a desktop version.

fantastic clean product, can't wait to see how it grows. Easy to use and doesn't need any useless onboarding, WYSIWYG interface which just works.
