@al3xstrat Given the new PixelBook launch, do you have any plans to make a Chrome version of Station? That'd be really great 💯
Alexandre Lachèze
@amrith interesting question! How would you imagine it?
Amrith
@al3xstrat I'd be dumb to say a Chrome Extension, but a webapp of sorts that works well with Chrome OS and Chromebooks in general maybe?
Alexandre Lachèze
@amrith even more interesting suggestion! We considered it, but the adoption of Chrome OS / Chrome Books is limited, even more in the business world. Windows and Mac are more common. (I think Chrome OS / Chrome Books are more common in the education world.)
Amrith

Having been a user of Franz for a long time now, I'm glad I found Station cause it has way more functionality :) Thank you for making this!

Although, I'm not sure on how I can mute particular apps from sending me notifications 🙃

EDIT 1: Multiple instances such as Twitter do not actually separate two accounts; if I log out of one, it logs out of the other.

P.S: I'll edit this review once I use it for a bit longer :)

Pros:

Clean, minimal & functional.

Cons:

Needs a little more basic features.

Alexandre Lachèze
Hey Amrith, as you may know it's difficult to keep balance between "clean, minimal" and a "lot of features". Let me know what basic features you were missing?
Amrith
@al3xstrat I haven't yet figured out how to mute individual apps like Telegram/Whatsapp. Even my mail for that matter..
Arun
This reminds me of this browser called Ghost browser. Enables multiple instances of the same website. If Station does this, combined with Station's keyboard shortcuts, this will be pure gold!
alex hayworth
@arunsathiya Was thinking this myself. I've been using Ghost, but for some reason, the transitions between accounts don't feel so smooth. If Station makes it such that you can log into multiple accounts, I'm back to good ole Chrome.
Amrith
I think this is missing something that I use the most. Product Hunt itself 😿 Please add ASAP 🙃
Amrith
@al3xstrat look at the demand, it even comes under "Curation & Sourcing" 🙃
Alexandre Lachèze
@amrith sorry, I got lost in the comments. Yes, we'll add it! :)
Amrith
@al3xstrat I still can't see it :/
Alexandre Lachèze
@amrith we have not released it yet, probably next week.
Amrith
@al3xstrat Saw the latest update, still not there :/
Nick Frost
@al3xstrat @_johnvaljohn_ @mathieudebit @jberthom @g_montard I've downloaded Station (I love the name, btw!) and am logging into apps I see. A few questions - Can you expand on what kind of security you have for this app? Is it like Apple where information is stored locally vs. globally or what? Also, how can I suggest a site to be included in the "Curation & Sourcing" section? Thanks again!
Alexandre Lachèze
@thinker regarding privacy. Except few telemetric data that helps in the development of the product, everything stays local. Naturally, all the applications running in Station (Slack, Gmail..) have their own privacy model. You can read more in our privacy policy note [1] To suggest a new site, you can type the name in the "app store" search and click "request". [1]: https://station.slite.com/public...

Good tool to keep your saas tools easily accessible and separate from the clutter of the tab crowd. I use it alongside Franz (which development seems, sadly, to be stopped) as Station doesn't allow the use of personal apps. Here is my use case : Franz is my communication hub. I put - my mailboxes (3 gmail accounts : pro - personal - newsletter&marketing dedicated box) - whatsapp - facebook messenger - linkedin inbox Station is my saas tool hub. Apps I use in it : - Teamleader (our CRM) - Trello - Wunderlist - Confluence (wiki) - Notion - Linkedin (as the website keep bugging in chrome - what a shame-) Apps I keep apart: - Evernote. The web app is way below the desktop app. - Slack. I like to have it apart for quicker access - Calendar. I like to have it apart (I use clean google calendar chrome extension).
Alexandre Lachèze
Yes @raphchabaud, sounds like a good workflow! On my side, I use Station for every professional-related applications, chats included (the notification center helps me focus when I need it) and I use Franz for personal communication. Therefore, I keep work and perso separated.
Amrith
@al3xstrat Multiple instances such as Twitter does not actually separate two accounts; if I log out of one, it logs out of the other. cc: @StationHQ
Alexandre Lachèze
@amrith good catch! We have this feature on the roadmap! Thanks
Amrith
@al3xstrat looking forward to it, need it ASAP. I'm actually challenging myself as to how long I can go without using my browser, help me out here thanks!
Alexandre Lachèze
@amrith actually, I almost forget to mention that many users of Station facing this problem actually ended up using Tweetdeck which is perfect to handle the management of 2 or more Twitter accounts — far better than 2 different tabs.
Dainis Kanopa
hi guys, interesting product! I have one question- if it is (still) a free product, how you are going to make a money in long term?
Alexandre Lachèze
Hi @dainiskanopa, we are testing now "Station for teams" with some pilote companies. It includes specific features that will be part of paid plans.
@dainiskanopa why doesn't it download?
Kwadwo Adu
Downloaded the app, really sleek design 👌🏽 I'm curious to see whether or not the little lag that keeping tabs in sleep mode will annoy me in the long run 🤔 The only thing keeping me from trying it out and making the swap from Franz is the missing FB Messenger integration, is it possible to get notified when it's been integrated?
Arastu Zakia
@kwadwoadu - Type in and press enter on the App you're missing on the Add Apps screen and the msg says it will notify you when it is launched
Alexandre Lachèze
@kwadwoadu @arastuz yes guys!! It will be there this week. We'll announce it via Twitter => https://twitter.com/stationhq
Raz Karmi
Been using it since its launch but for some reason it stopped functioning on my windows machine... any support?
Alexandre Lachèze
Edit: We got a lot of questions, so I'm adding the frequently asked ones here: If you have more questions, please share them in the community: https://community.getstation.com/ > Where can I find the installer? On https://getstation.com/ click "Download". No email required. > Cool, but these apps keep all apps open using RAM and CPU. Definitely, but, in Station, we addressed this issue! We idle applications you have not used for some time and pop it again as soon as you need it. That's transparent for the user, but it definitely has a positive impact on RAM and CPU! > Can you expand on what kind of privacy you have for this app? Except few telemetric data that helps in the development of the product, everything stays local. Naturally, all the applications running in Station (Slack, Gmail..) have their own privacy model. You can read more in our privacy policy note: https://station.slite.com/public... > Do you support multi-account? Yes we do, just add an app for the second time and it will let you connect it with a second account. > It looks like a very good idea, but I wanted to know what will be the business model before investing time in it? The Station app is free. We are currently testing "Station for teams" with some pilot companies. It includes specific features that will be part of paid plans. > How can I suggest an application to be included in Station's app store? To suggest a new application, you can type the name iof the application n the "app store" search and click "request". > What OS do you support? Mac and Windows. Linux is coming. --- Hi everyone! 👋 First off, big thanks to @ldesserrey for hunting us! 🚀 Station is a free desktop app that centralizes all your work applications in one neat interface. Think of it as a super efficient workspace for all your web tools. We want to give you a snapshot into what we think the future of work will look like & hopefully build it together with you ! ;) We realise we still have a long way to go but our team has been working round the clock on this ambitious product for the past year & we're really excited to hear what you think 🤗 ! We'll be here all day to answer any questions you might have, so ask away! Cheers! 🍻
Mathias Elmose
@al3xstrat great work! Already loving it! Is there a place to vote on new app intergrations? Would love to be able to access Webflow from Station ✌
Alexandre Lachèze
Hey @galimotion we's are adding a form in the Station app-store. In the meanwhile don't hesitate to mention it in the support chat (bottom left chat icon). I noted Webflow!
Boris Berenberg
@al3xstrat Seems really cool, is this another massively growing Electron app where each app takes another 200mb?
Alexandre Lachèze
@imatincr definitely a recurring question with this kind of app indeed. But, we addressed that problem. We idle applications you have not used for some time and pop them as soon as you need one of them. That's transparent for the user, but it definitely has an impact on RAM and CPU! So, try it, and let us know how it feels! :)
Boris Berenberg
@al3xstrat Makes perfect sense, similar to what The Great Suspender does. So what happens when I get a notification in an idled Slack?
Robin Good
I would like to write a short review of Station. What I cannot figure out if there's a version of Windows and for other OSes. On the site there is no link to a download page and I'm offered a Mac download. On this page it is categorized as a web app. This is confusing. Can you kindly clarify?
Alexandre Lachèze
@robingood There is a version for MacOS and Windows for now, indeed not very clear. Correcting the categorization then, thanks!
John Alexander
This is great....unfortunately I use a couple gmail extensions and those don't seem to pass through :( but I am testing it out for others! Great stuff
Alexandre Lachèze
@johnalxndr yes we recently shipped the support for Gmail extensions. We are actively trying to sort things up on these. Let us know your feedbacks and bug reports!
John Alexander
@al3xstrat any chance you have plans to add prosperworks gmail extension? I see you have mixmax but we also use prosperworks
Ted Jardine
@johnalxndr @al3xstrat Any plans for supporting ActiveInbox?
Arlo Gilbert
I love this concept but so much of my utility on the apps you support depend on chrome plugins. What would be required for you to support chrome plugins? I assume this is all built on Webkit, being able to enable chrome plugins would be huge and make this a game changer for me.
Alexandre Lachèze
Hi @arlogilbert we started supporting some selected Chrome plugins few weeks ago with Mixmax, Clearbit and 2 other ones. We plan to support more, just let us know the ones you'd like to see in Station? Technically, Chrome plugins internals are implemented in Chromium, not directly in Webkit. Electron, the framework on which Station is built, is based on Chromium — but without the plugin internals we had to add ourself.
Loris Maz
@al3xstrat any plans or any way to allow multiple instances of Station running concurrently? To separate workspaces, instead of logging in apps multiple times in the same workspace?
Monark Singh Yede
No shortcut in desktop nor in all programs, How to re-launch the app once it is closed? It took me 15 min to add and configure all of my apps, I closed it to see it remembers my sign in's only to find that I can't re-launch as there is no shortcut. Edit: Had to search user directory for exe file or had to relaunch the installation exe
Alexandre Lachèze
@monarksingh - no shortcuts: it's supposed to be in a "Help > Keyboard Sortcuts" menu. Have you seen it on your Station? - the apps are not supposed to disappear after restarting the app. There is a support chat in the app (bottom left chat icon), can you reach out there, it will be easier to debug.
Stefan Natter
@al3xstrat any plans for an access password? Like Rambox has it. To open the main app and use the installed services, you have to enter a password. I really like this feature, because it lets you keep certain services (eg. WhatsApp) more secure. Besides that, awesome app!
Alexandre Lachèze
@natterstefan great suggestion! We have password manager support on our roadmap!
Jeremy Bauer
This is great. And beautiful! I've been using Web Catalog, which is really nice, but I think Station is more of what I'm looking for. I love that more people are working in this "hub" product space. We need it! 🚀✨
𝔏aurent 𝔇el ℜey
👋 Station is the best workflow improvement I've made recently. I've been a beta tester of Station for the past few months, that's why I am glad to hunt it today! All the places of the Internet where I like to spend time (Twitter, Slack channels, Github, Feedly, GDrive, Dribbble...) were spread among Chrome tabs, Desktop apps, and Menu bar icons. Now, it's all gathered in Station. The "commute" among these places disappeared. Going from a place to another now feels as easy as switching among Slack channels. Give it a try. Cheers!
braxton
@al3xstrat this is brilliant! I am super stoked to start using Station! It's intuitive and very useful; great work! I will be sure to be in touch if there is anything I think of mentioning! Awesome job!
Alexandre Lachèze
@3raxton Thanks!
Rodrigo Chiong
@al3xstrat The app works great but I have an issue with Inbox by Gmail. It seems it triggers notifications even when no new messages have arrived! It just keeps popping up notifications all the time, even for emails to which I've already replied. Can you take a look at it? For the time being I'm just using Focus Mode all the time.
