Very cool. Interesting take on education for entrepreneurs.
Vlad Stan
@smalter Thanks so much Walter.
Bram Kanstein (@bramk)
Interesting pivot of Startupkit, from tools to knowledge - @vladstan can tell you more!
Vlad Stan
@bramk Thanks for the hunt, dude! Appreciate it. Kudos from the team!
Vinish Garg
I used it in its early days (1.0, almost an year back ) but this is cracking. Will love to use it. @vladstan I remember sharing my comments on the mockups, in June'15! ;)
Vlad Stan
@vingar Thanks Vinish. Of course I remember. Give it a try now, and let me know what you think.
Vlad Stan
For a startup founder the only way to succeed is to be able to learn faster than anyone else. You need to have the best knowledge and tools, but also the most efficient learning process. That's why we've built Startupkit. Give it a try, and let us know what you think.
Daniel Schildt
@vladstan Noticed that from the main page https://startupkit.io/ of the site, link to https://startupkit.io/choose.html was broken.
Vlad Stan
@autiomaa Thanks for letting me know. Solved now.
Vlad Stan
Yes, this is the idea. For the moment you can connect only with other people reading the same articles or using the same tools. But we want to create a new experience for group learning. Still WIP.
Luis Solano
Had a problem with the iOS onboarding and Vlad and team figured it out in no time. There is that.
Vlad Stan
@luisobo Thanks Luis!
Jeremy
Will sign up right away, looks promising and could be really useful !
Vlad Stan
@jeremybdk Thanks man! Let me know what you think.
Ethan Thomas
You have a typo on your landing page "exactly when your need them" 😏
Irving Torres
The learning app for self-taught entrepreneurs. Now this is what I call a paradox. Really neat idea but wrong target market in my opinion.
Vlad Stan
@irvingtorresyc Hi Irving, what do you mean?
tom meagher
@vladstan @irvingtorresyc self-taught entrepreneur sounds like an oxymoron – most entrepreneurs are self-taught, right?
Vlad Stan
@thomasmeagher @irvingtorresyc kind of. I have to think about this one.
Lindsey Wilson
@irvingtorresyc I'm interested to hear why they are the wrong market. Most people who set out to teach themselves take it seriously because they are doing it in their free time at the expensive of "more glamorous" interests. They are usually willing to invest in themselves. Classes for this market can easily be thousands of dollars. I agree that it sounds a bit like an oxymoron but most people get the point, right?
exex zian
Signing up for trial to try this feature "Choose your struggles and your interests". and hope android version is in queue. :)
Vlad Stan
@exexzian we want to build an app for Android as well. But you can still use the web version meanwhile.
Nicola Mattina
Do not get it. I subscribed: it suggested me 2 articles and a video :( Now I want to cancel my subscription and I'm not able to do it. Do NOT charge my credit card!
Vlad Stan
@nicolamattina It was limited to only 3 articles because we don't want to overwhelm you with too much content. If you want more, just press the get more content button, and you will get more. As you already know, your credit card was not charged.
Evan Varsamis
amazing idea:)
Justin Kwong
Interesting product. As a solo/bootstrapped entrepreneur I can see the value in this. $9/mo is also worth it if I can get a greater ROI (in terms of time saved from searching for articles/increased knowledge). Not a fan of the opt-in credit card info though... I think that if me or any other user finds value in your product, we'll pay anyways
Vlad Stan
@justinckwong I know it was a hard decision to make and we really want to make this available to anyone. But, we are bootstrapping now and can't afford to pay for extra services and extra customer support. Hope it make sense to you as well.
Vlad Stan
@justinckwong this is wired. Can you describe the situation?
Fred Rivett
I like the idea of tools that help founders level up, so kudos on that. For me though, looking at the landing page, it's hard to place my finger on the value? It seems the value is curated knowledge (heads up about existing blog posts and other resources?) and the community? If that's the case then I don't see how this provides much value over curating a good Twitter feed & joining an existing Slack community. Not trying to have a dig, just curious to see the benefits here.
Vlad Stan
@fredrivett @sphmrs There are 3 main parts of the process: 1. The discovery process: Agree, you can find great content on twitter, but you can't rely on random content. Your needs are specific. You need someone to organize all the content and deliver it to you exactly when you need it. Even more, this is an ongoing process. 2. The learning process Once you know what to learn, you need someone to help you accelerate this process and optimize your time. For example, when you have 20 min, you can read a 15 min article, so we will tell you that. Also reading is not learning. We have a lot of insights and tips on how to improve your learning process. For example: taking notes, reminders, and ask yourself a lot of questions. This is still work in progress, so be kind with us :) 3. Peer 2 peer learning Of course you can join large communities on slack, but it’s super hard to find someone at your stage dealing with exactly the same problem as you. So we connect you with other founders at the same stage and invite you to join small learning groups. For the moment this feature is available only in case you will buy the 1yr subscription. But we work hard to improve this as well. I hope it makes sense to you guys. Please let me know what you think.
Lindsey Wilson
@fredrivett I agree that the landing page is a bit light on the benefit. There is an abundance of help for the self-taught entrepreneur. So much so, that it can be overwhelming. I think the landing page needs something to really compel me to sign up for the trial. Otherwise, it becomes a bookmark for eventually.
Samir Diwan
@vladstan @fredrivett Are there better ways to communicate how the value of the community comes into play here? I'm not sure I understand how this is going to help me as a founder, and it may even feel like I'm signing up and paying for something with very few people in the community (chicken/egg problem). Maybe an anecdote, or perhaps a step-by-step example?
Fred Rivett
@vladstan Hey Vlad, thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I agree there's a benefit to curating content and organising it for sure. For me, as someone who gets a lot of useful content via Twitter & Medium already, the benefit seems minimal, more of a nice to have rather than a burning need. From my experience of Slack groups I've not found it hard to connect with those who are at a similar stage to me, but I can see how invite only small learning groups could be useful. For me, as someone embarking on bootstrapping a startup on the side, I feel like the needs here are met in my existing setup (as described above). I could see this being a cool free tool, but based on the details given I don't see enough value to warrant payment for me just now. Others will likely find more benefit though, so all the best with it, and congrats again on launching v2 πŸ‘
Vlad Stan
@fredrivett @lindsey_io @someear @sphmrs actually our main focus is on the learning process. Maybe we don't know yet how to explain it, but this is where I see the most value. The illusion of competence is the biggest trap for a startup founder. Read about this here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Du... Most of the people just scan the articles and they think they got it. And I know few people with an efficient learning process in place. You need to take notes, to explain it to others, to ask yourself a lot of questions, to act based on the knowledge. And as you can see this is a complex process. What we want to do is to assist you on this process.
Julie
I will definitely sign up for the free trial and see what it's like. Similar to other comments, the value proposition isn't compelling enough to make me want to pay for it, but eager to see what the trial is like.
Julie
Just a FYI -- your sign-up is spinning -- I suppose that's a good thing you're receiving high volumes of traffic but not a good first experience for me trying to sign-up ;)
Vlad Stan
@jkent2910 Maybe you know this quote: "If You're Not Embarrassed By The First Version Of Your Product, You’ve Launched Too Late" Reid Hoffman of Linkedin. We work super hard here to build a great product for entrepreneurs, and yes we know we have so many things to solve. Thanks for being supportive with us!
brandon lucas green
Really interesting. It took me a while to figure out that pricing was underneath the "start your free trial" button (perhaps bring that a bit forward or add a "Pricing" link), but I'm actually surprised at the low price. Curious of the level of quality / worth of investment here - echoing @fredrivett's sentiments, is this just a curated set of knowledge/blogposts or something more involved? I wonder if there's an example newsletter or sample you could display after the initial sell.
Paul Towers
Interesting idea, I see you have the pricing link at the bottom of the page. It took me about 30's to find it as I was expecting it higher up the page and/or in a more prominent location. Would also be ideal to get some more insight into what the knowledge is that you are sharing. I am looking at it going, this could be useful, but I was looking for the killer tag line that makes me want to hit sign up. Will definitely give the trial a go and think the idea is on the right track. Good luck with it.
Vlad Stan
@pvptowers Hi Paul, thanks so much. Still working to find that killer tag line :). Kudos
Hipster Sound
Will gladly try a trial !
Vlad Stan
@hipstersound Thank you. Let me know what you think.
Walter Reid
Congrats on the launch! It does seem mostly about curated knowledge feeds (possibly) presented in a better way. What prevents someone else from releasing a very similar service? Couldn't I find all this information on producthunt for example?
Vlad Stan
@walterareid No, you can't find this type of content on PH (or only partially). Our service has a different approach. Tell us what is your main focus or struggle and we will search for the best content for you. Every time we have something new, we will notify you or you can browse our existing collection. This is what we call the discovery process. But it's more than that. (See comments) We want to help you design and improve your learning process and we want to help you connect with other founders at the same stage.
