Love this. I'm a huge SoundCloud fan but discovery is tough unless you spend a lot of time curating your feed following the right artists/people. This feels a lot like Netflix's recommendations (e.g. "Because you liked Mr FijiWiji, Direct, & Aruna").
Here's what my Discover feed looks like:
The first song on my SoundCloud Discover is π₯ (for me).
@rrhoover It's super interesting
It's essentially "just" their related tracks for each of those tracks
But the pattern behind is awesome.
Use the data you have (vs becoming overcomplicated w/ a new engine) and add a useful presentation.
Users wont' go that often to the detail page of the song
Users will have forgotten maybe even about the song - or heard it 1000x times in their `/likes` page
Job solved: Users can discover new music daily.
PS: Wonder how they keep it interesting if you use it regularly
@andreasklinger@rrhoover I had this same thought process. I think one way they're keeping it interesting is by limiting the number of rows they'll show at a time. If you get to "the end" they'll say that's all they have for you now, come back later. I think that cutoff point is more about getting people to come back on a later date and build the habit than any technical or quality reason
@rrhoover SoundCloud seems to be the master of rebranding services they previously offered (i.e. Stations on iOS - https://blog.soundcloud.com/2016...). I don't see how putting 'related tracks' on a dedicated page is considered a new feature, but whatever. Related tracks has been on-point in the past and no doubt this feature will continue that theme, but let's see what else they have up their sleeve for the year.
I've had multiple soundcloud accounts for 7+ years, but have stopped using as much since it became more focused on the listener and less on the creator.
I'll have to check this out though, it seems interesting given how much listening history I must have on the platform.
Question for @colemercer: do you have any plans to include a filter that would limit or remove reposts on the stream? I'd really like to be able to see what people actually post but at the moment my stream is just clogged up with promos.
@danielmatthews Hey Dan, thanks for your feedback. We actually do have plans for that, and I'm working on it personally. I'd love it if you sent me a DM on Twitter and gave me any more feedback you have on that or what your ideal solution would look like.. interested in seeing as many user needs as possible on this one :)
Long overdue feature, but much appreciated nonetheless. As a soundcloud power-user, I am definitely excited to test this out and to help me discover new music.
As this feature develops, I could see it becoming more of a flagship differentiator amongst the music services. Soundcloud's strength is in being a home for burgeoning artists and the social network of bloggers, enthusiasts and artists sharing music - there is SO MUCH recommending (with reposting actions) and discovery happening already, but as @rrhoover mentioned, this entails lots of curatorial effort on the user's part. Features like this help move the needle towards less effort, but still maintaining the strength of Soundcloud's social platform.
Hey @nicolabortignon, how are you thinking of expanding this feature? Are there any burning questions you're looking to answer by introducing this?
Fun Fact: SoundCloud does not give you the ability to access who you are following on its mobile apps. I keep asking about this feature (an extremely obvious feature) and they keep ignoring. I love SoundCloud but it's pretty inexcusable that something so vital has been neglected for so long. Do better SoundCloud. Do better.
I'm a daily SoundCloud user, but discovery had been weak. Most of my discovery was through Hypem. I'd like to see a shuffle option to shuffle through all suggestions, rather than just playing all songs similar to X.
I've always found Soundcloud discovery a little bit off so this will be a good update. Recommendations based on history seems like a pretty fundamental feature though nowadays so I'm wondering why it's taken so long to arrive in Soundcloud?
The scale at which Soundcloud is operating is unique and gives us opportunities that none of our competitors have.
We have amazing content created by amazing artists.
Our goal is to develop algorithms capable of 'closing the loop'
by generating a customised and enjoyable listening experience!
For each user, for every (micro) moment of the day.
Here a little bit more about what's going on behind the scenes!

We will share more technical details in the nearest future.
Wondering why this wasn't implemented before now. Found new music & artist contacts I would have never found using my traditional methods. Fortunately for me my feed was very well curated. Nice Soundcloud
finally, had a hard time finding decent music, would spend way too much time searching/skipping than just enjoying music. Cool thing is, I get new decent tracks every day now
Love Soundcloud! Its one of the first websites i go at the start of my day. Hopefully this discovery is like spotify discovery that its very good. Cheers Soundcloud!
