@sidazhang we actually use SoundCloud to distribute the podcast to iTunes and other sources. I'm not sure what the listener distribution is though -- it's impossible to measure actual listens, unfortunately.
This article shows how to get your RSS feed, it mentions you have to apply to the beta, but not anymore. http://help.soundcloud.com/custo... Great work Soundcloud!
Finally out of beta! Starting today, anyone can host a podcast on SoundCloud. I'm adding some team members from our team here that developed the feature, so be sure to ask questions if you've got 'em :)
@colemercer been hosting two podcasts using SoundCloud beta over the last year - looks great, super easy to use. I don't understand some of the old-school podcaster hate for it :) new era. I'm sure you've gotten a million feature requests, but I'd love to share two with you:
1. Export data. The data is fine, just wish I could export it. Right now I manually enter monthly downloads into a spreadsheet and it's kind of a pain after doing it for a year.
2. (This one is much more challenging). You guys should find a way to solve the sharing problem. Say I'm listening to Product Hunt's podcast and Tim Ferriss has an awesome quote - there's no easy way to share that, other than remembering to for later.
Very cool to see this launching! I've been a podcast listener and soundcloud fan for years, so it's cool to see them coming together.
@colemercer
How does this differ from the regular SoundCloud account/system that existed before?
How does SoundCloud see this competing with other popular hosting services like Libsyn?
@colemercer@samhouston This feature launch gives you the option to generate an RSS feed from your SoundCloud account, and also provides more granular stats to help you understand the traffic on that RSS feed.
So the SoundCloud RSS feature offering is highly competitive with any other RSS hosting provider. But there's a ton of features beyond the RSS world that SoundCloud enables and no other traditional podcast host can provide.
@annewooten@mlieber@lisachow@eriktorenberg would love the feedback! Our main goals were enablement and insight. Make it trivial for anyone to distribute their podcasts widely and show what's happening and where by breaking out the RSS data in our creators stats. We hope it let's creators focus on creating.
@mlieber@lisachow@eriktorenberg Yup, this launch is all about making RSS distribution as simple as possible and providing podcasters with insights. Looking with a wider lens though, as @annewooten is well aware, the more content that's hosted on SoundCloud, the more opportunity we have to move beyond the limitations of download-based RSS distribution toward awesome projects like https://www.audiosear.ch/ and our social integrations, making the possibility of viral audio a reality.
So, other than the RSS feeds, what does this actually change? I see the usual Soundcloud interface otherwise.
And I don't mean that as a criticism, I actually want to know. The landing page is fairly light on info. Sell me on it! :)
Very nice work on the landing page. I'm not very familiar with Soundcloud, I actually thought it was already possible to host podcasts there. I must be missing something here.
@thibautdavoult If you were part of our Beta, it was possible. We've now opened this out to all as well as enhancing our creator stats to show RSS plays separately.
It's great- makes hosting easy & scalable, and the player helps audio flow nicely across social platforms. We've been beta-testers on it for a while, and are happy customers.
Very big fan of this! As someone who uses Libsyn and Soundcloud at the same time I'm happy I now have this option. Pricing is perfect as well. But.. Swapping from Libsyn scares me. Will I lose my current subs on itunes in the process?
Also, I love the soundcloud UI/UX and so whoever works on that, bravo!
@cheapstartup You can ask Libsyn to add a 301 redirect from your Libsyn feed to your SoundCloud feed if you want. They'll probably charge a flat fee of some sort to maintain it. You can also use an tag. But I think that option won't redirect non-iTunes subscribers. More info here http://help.soundcloud.com/custo...
This is boss! I've been manually adding my podcast to soundcloud via another hosting integration that didn't offer twitter cards... This consolidates everything... And it's cheaper. I've heard the process of switching the feed with iTunes isn't easy. Any insight?
@imstilljosh Which part in particular did you hear that about? Maybe our creator guide about podcasting helps: http://on.soundcloud.com/creator... Or is there something more specific on your mind?
@imstilljosh Ya, switching feeds can be easy or complicated depending on your current hosting provider. More details here - http://help.soundcloud.com/custo... Also happy to help walk you through it if you want to DM me on Twitter.
