Shadow is an high-end, always up-to-date PC in the cloud that streams in 4k without control latency to any of your devices. For $35 / month, you'll be never have to worry about having your own gaming machine at home.
It's a french startup, very promising. I don't have time to play anymore, but one of my friends has been in their beta program and been using it for more than 6 months now : the result is properly amazing 🎉(At least on the French network. I don't know about the recent US launch perfs.)
He was playing Overwatch (a high end very dynamic multiplayer fps) at full graphics without any latency. Thanks to their streaming device, the Shadow Box and a mouse + keyboard.
Very surprised not to find it on Product Hunt 😲I hunted it because today Product Hunt talked about the last Windows future cloud gaming streaming platform announcement... and it felt a bit low compared to what I've seen Shadow doing RIGHT NOW...
Good luck to the Shadow team, this is clearly the future of computers, and not only for gamers !
User for about 6 months, it's a really great product when it works. Three times I've had issues on a Friday evening / Saturday and there is (was?) No weekend technical support, so my issues wouldn't get resolved til Monday, meaning a few weekends I wasn't able to play games at all.
Twice my shadow has been unfixable, all I did was play games on it, forcing them to reset my device so that I lost everything I had saved on
Pros:
Low latency, very high end
Cons:
VPNs banned, geolocation based in France, so sites/services will default to French and stuff like paypal won't work. Forced to reset twice
Hello everyone! We are so grateful for the recommendation and glad that we have been Hunted! We will be here in the comments and discussion section answering any questions you may have.
I use the service in Colorado (Just south of Denver), but it's supposed to only work in California. Your experience may vary, but mine has been good enough to easily play games like Fallout (with tons of mods) without issue, but it was slightly too delayed (I'm well outside the region it's designed to work in.) for competitive games like OverWatch.
Pros:
It runs pretty much any game smoothly on pretty much any computer, phone, or tablet.
Cons:
Requires good internet and some computers don't handle wifi well.
A lot of friends have it too (in France) and they are really happy with this service. They have a FTTH network for most of them, but they reported it works OK over a 4G network too (40-150mbps)
using it as my everyday/everything computer since 6+months, it's a delight.
"Arrives at friend's house, install shadow app on a small/old computer, plug ps4 controller, play with friends with extreme+ graphics and 60 fps. "
Dedicated Shadow user for almost a year. Let's be clear: I would have not finished CupHead, HellBlade and other games without Shadow. The ability to play all the games I bought during Steam Summer Sales years after years (a lot....) and on Humble Bundle (even more....) on literally anything is amazing.
I commute a lot and playing in the Uber is incredible. And when I'm tired, playing in my bed is the best experience possible.
I was one of the march backers and I used it for 6 months. I had to cancel my subscription because I couldn't find time to play, but the results were astonishing. It worked perfectly with no latency perceivable. My ISP setup is 200Mbps/50Mbps FTTH
Been using Shadow from Ohio to the California datacenter for a little over a month now. My latency to their location is right around 60-80ms with my ISP giving me 100mb down with ~20mb up and my experience is generally very good. I don’t play twitchy games so cant comment on how well they perform. I play from a 2012 27inch iMac so a bit dated but yet everything is absolutely gorgeous and feels like I’m almost in bare metal.
Definitely recommend giving this service a shot if you don’t feel like upgrading or building a new pc.
I’ve been using it since the UK launch on a 400mb cable line and when it’s working properly (few launch bugs but it’s a new service) you can’t tell your on a remote machine and you get the full power of a very real gaming machine. The best moment for me was running Doom (the new one) on ultra settings on a 5mm thick Lenovo tablet at 60fps while sat in bed.
Using it in a unsupported area (Sweden) and have 35+/-ms, it's super stable and works very well, one of the best cloud PCs out there as we speak!
Would recommend it if you are looking for a good gaming experience or just having a very good editing/working machine!
(Comes with Windows 10 Home, needs to setup as a normal PC)
Shadow is my seconds gaming rig, and I've had this the longest too 😉
I've been using Shadow now for a number of months and it has wowed me in terms of the performance of the remote pc, no latency on control, excellent support and community, constant updates and improvements to the software I generally use it the most now on a Surface pro 4 and it is flawless, playing Forza Horizon 3 at Ultra and 4k looks superb and it just works
Pros:
No more updating your pc spec every 12 months, use across multiple devices
Cons:
Need a decent internet connection with a low - medium ping, very tight on storage space at 256gb but there are larger options coming
I love using shadow to game from a standard computer that couldn't hardly run Minecraft. Now I can play whatever games I want without having to worry about my specs or constantly having to upgrade my hardware.
Pros:
Computer gaming from anywhere on practically any device.
Been using shadow.tech for a couple months now and quite impressed. I game for fun but have been using restream.io during my play sessions without a hitch so looks like it'd do well for career streamers too.
