Why are 3D design tools are still stuck in 2005?

Serious question: Why do most 3D design tools still feel like they were built for Windows XP?

You open them up and immediately feel like you need to go get a degree in “viewport navigation.”

Everything takes forever. Everything costs a fortune. And God help you if you want to share anything with someone else. Meanwhile… the rest of the creative world moved to the browser years ago.

  • Designers have figma

  • Teams have notion

  • Video folks have Runway

…so why hasn’t 3D caught up?

We've been working on this problem for a while now, building @radicalmotion to make real-time mocap + 3D visualisation actually usable by mere mortals (you Unity / Unreal geniuses out there... just... how?!). But this post isn’t meant to pitch anything.

I’m honestly curious:

  • What’s the most frustrating thing about 3D tools right now?

  • Who do you think is doing it right?

  • What do you wish existed but doesn’t?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Whether you’re a filmmaker, game dev, creative director, or just someone who tried to make something in 3D and rage-quit halfway through.

👇 Let’s hear it.
