How do you find your first 100 quality beta testers? (Building a RaaS)

Hey PH community,

I'm at that classic "ready for users but have no users" stage of my journey and would love some advice from those who have been here before.

I've spent the last few months building what I'm calling a RaaS (Rizz as a Service). It's an AI keyboard for Android designed to help people win conversations with genuinely witty, frame-controlling replies, not the cringey, robotic stuff that's already flooded the market.

Now that the MVP is ready, my big question is: What are the best strategies you've used to find your first 100 quality beta testers?

I'm not just looking for numbers; I'm looking for people who will actually use the product, break things, and provide brutally honest feedback. I've seen everything from Reddit posts to small ad campaigns. For those of you who have launched a B2C app, what actually worked to get those crucial first users who genuinely cared?

Is building a Discord community from day one a must, or is a simple email list enough to manage feedback effectively at this early stage?

For context, the project is called RizzKit Pro: AI Wingman. Right now, my entire "system" is just driving people to a landing page where I can collect their Gmail to add them to a closed Google Play beta. Any wisdom, horror stories, or "I wish I'd done this instead" advice on finding those initial, invaluable users would be hugely appreciated.

Maybe it’s something hard to sell. I built in the past 2 Raas 🫣, and we stayed in that phase for 4 years before accepting our defeat. It was the most costly mistake I made. Now, I always test the market as soon as possible, ideally before developing. Usually, a landing page with a fake registration button is enough. I also put deadlines on acquisition, so if we can’t achieve some acquisition, we kill the project. After that two long fails, we launched many projects, and for one of them, we didn’t need to ask that question because acquisition was so easy. We had the opposite problem: we needed to limit the number of clients and do a white list. I clearly don’t answer your question, but I asked my self that question for too long. And sometime the answer is to change the product.

@bengeekly interesting. why did you accept defeat? i know of some other people that have just launched and are successful.

@rizzkitpro, after four years of working on our company, despite having many vanity metrics, nice incubators, some media articles, and friends cheering, we still had no clients and no money. So, I wonder when to stop when there are no clients. Four years is definitely too late. To be clear, from my perspective, defeat is okay. I simply launched something else. However, it’s important to know when to accept failure. Also, I have no idea about your stage, so I’m speaking about my own experience.

I started with a goal of 10, just doing some research on youtube was helpful "How to get first 10 users". My first week I think I had 4 real users come in, 2nd week grew to 30.. I did a mix of SEO, Discords where my Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) hangs out and a bit of Reddit.. I also build in public and share updates to X and Linkedin.

Rizzkitpro would be prime to talk about on TikTok I would bet. Start figuring out some short form videos and posting to TikTok, Instagram and Youtube.. sharing those videos on X & maybe Reddit.

Every projects ICP will be slightly different. Take some time to think about a few of these.. and then fire up a gemini deep research to figure out where they hang out online and how you could get your product in front of them in a unique way.

You can also run ads, but organic growth is very satisfying.
