This seems to be very promising. Can it be used to create promo videos for desktop apps as well (I see one promo video of this type)?
Darren Fanton
Hi Csaba. Absolutely! You can select from a MacBook Pro, Surface Pro or iMac Pro along with their respective available colors. The demo video above was entirely created on ScreenSpace which uses a MacBook Pro against a dark backdrop. Our landing page also has a sample video from the Flexibits Cardhop launch with a MacBook Pro in a photoreal environment. We are also adding more devices over the next few weeks.

So impressed by this product. What a feat of engineering! My first video is rendering while I type this comment. Absolutely amazing software. Well done guys! In your demo video you seem to be cutting between different devices. Is that multiple renders edited together?
Darren Fanton
Hi Mick! Yes, the demo video was built by simply editing multiple renders together. We built one full animation with one device and, using it as a template, simply swapped out devices while still preserving the animations so they cut together seamlessly. If you would like to do the same effect I would be happy to give you a demo!

@dfanton Awesome! Listen I LOVE this product so this isn't a complaint, more like feedback. In parts of my video I zoom in to the screen to highlight certain elements (like notifications) however I didn't realise that when you do this there is focus blur applied. It doesn't show in the preview but is there in the render. This has kinda made my free render unusable. I just think it may be worth making that clear somewhere (the fact that zooming in will add camera / focus blur).
Darren Fanton
Hi Mick. We should have the depth of field implemented in the preview interface within the next couple days. We have gone ahead and re-activated that coupon code for your account since your render did not reflect your preview accurately. Tip for now: if you move the camera close to the device, we recommend rotating the camera angle as opposed to the device itself to avoid unwanted blur in the center of frame. Thanks so much for your feedback, Mick!
Primer
@dfanton Thanks so much dude. I will sit and wait for the depth of field to be implemented in preview. Such a good product!
Darren Fanton
We will post here as soon as it is implemented so you're the first to know (along with everyone else on Product Hunt) 😊

Hey makers! Here’s the 15 second tl;dr behind ScreenSpace: My twin brother and I specialize in visual effects and motion design for both the entertainment and tech industries. We found we were regularly hired to create Apple-style ads for app launches and feature releases. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, quick turnarounds, & the inevitable UI revisions until the VERY. LAST. MINUTE. it was challenging for us to deliver the quality we were known for. Therefore we built an internal tool that allowed us to streamline the process of creating 3D product videos, with zero drop in quality. And now those tools are available to everyone through ScreenSpace. At it's core, ScreenSpace allows you to: • Upload an image or video capture of your app • Select a device that fits your product • Fluidly animate the device and camera on a timeline • Customize one of our dynamic backgrounds or upload your own • Render your video in the cloud • Optionally include alpha and a 3D After Effects camera for easy integration into your own projects We have a great deal for Product Hunt, too: Apply promo code PRODUCTHUNT at checkout and your first render is on us! ($175 value). Expires June 15th so take advantage now! Questions or feedback? We’d love to hear it! Cheers! PS... The promo video above was completely built using ScreenSpace! 🤯

@dfanton This is really nifty. 👏👏

Thanks, Nick!

@dfanton Finally getting around to using this! Any chance you have a working promo code for PH users? <3
Darren Fanton
Hi @claudesutterlin. I'm glad you are ready to dive in! Unfortunately our PH promo has expired, however you can receive $50 credit by filling out this quick 5 minute survey: https://goo.gl/forms/FcEkNytssLi.... I hope this helps get you started!
Darren Fanton
Hi @claudesutterlin. We are unable to find your submission. Please DM the email you used when submitting the form so we can dig deeper and get you your promo code ASAP.
Paul Anderie
Wow really great execution. The most interesting is the price structure. That’s value based pricing 😉 I’ll definitely check it out during the weekend
Darren Fanton
Thanks, Paul. We will be around all weekend so let us know if you have any questions. We are here to help in any way we can.
Claude Sutterlin
@anderiep Just FYI for anyone coming after the fact, pricing changed to be enterprise pricing only. No more per-render-pricing, only $900 a month... which is a hard pill for a startup to swallow.

Looking forward to testing this @dfanton - it looks terrific - in your demo above I am guessing you used some video content too for the animated text - do you have an example of a video that was made with images? You also mentioned in a comment that you will enable a new feature that will allow us to render unlimited HD stills for free - is this now live?
Darren Fanton
Thanks, Krishna! We do not have a sample of a render using a still image however you can access all of our features and render a sample with your own image within a few minutes using the PRODUCTHUNT coupon code. You won’t need to enter a credit card. Regarding the unlimited HD stills - this feature will be live early this week along with the ability to instantly download your preview video without needing to purchase a render. We will let you know when this feature is available!

A great tool for mobile marketing

Pros:

Easy and intuitive to use. Free render is great. Cheap a la carte pricing

Cons:

Slight video editing knowledge helps

Matt Pliszka
Have been looking for a tool of this type for some time and it looks really interesting. Setting up 3D videos in Apple Motion / Final Cut would take ages, so will definitely use the tool when launching the new product campaign. Are you planning to add more templates in the near future?
Darren Fanton
Hi Matt. Thanks so much for your comment. We will be adding new devices and environments weekly along with many exciting features. Can't wait to show you!
Nick Francioso
Great concept, will be using it when I start working on the marketing aspect of my application. Thanks.
Darren Fanton
Thanks, Nick. Feel free to reach out to us when you are getting ready for your launch. We would be happy to provide creative tips on your marketing material. Cheers!
Will Dages
Just tried it out and I'm really impressed. I happen to be working on building a new marketing site for an app this week and plan on using this immediately. I also have a background in motion graphics and if I were to try to make this 5 second video myself today (several years out of practice), I'm sure it'd take me 8+ hours, so $5/second feels very reasonable to me. The free render via ProductHunt is super generous, thank you! One question: where did you get (or how did you make) the 3D device models? They look great.
Darren Fanton
Hey Will. Saving you time in your day is the very reason we built this platform. You should be focusing exclusively on creative - not the technicalities of modeling, animating, lighting, and rendering. We built the 3D devices in house in order to have full control over the look and quality. Stock models are impossible to work with and the textures somehow always skew the color and quality of the screen.
Darren Fanton
Thanks Will. Let me know if you have any device requests and we'll do our best to fast track it! Cheers!

This looks... amazing! Like someone else said on here, I’m a bit of an After Effects expert but still.... this would save SO MUCH TIME. Awesome!
Aidan Hornsby

Screenspace does one thing, and it does it exceptionally well. As it happens, I've been looking to make just that one thing easier for quite some time.

I can't recommend it highly enough for video producers, marketers, entrepreneurs and generally any app/software companies looking to add some polish to their video marketing and product presentation.

Pros:

Powerful preview and rendering features, gorgeous, focused UI

Cons:

Nothing so far

Ryan Boyling

Screenpace saves a lot of time. You don't have to figure out a way to produce a video for a product, it just happens within minutes using this.

I would recommend it, but with the pricing that comes with it I can't imagine anyone paying for it.

Pros:

Looks very useful

Cons:

Very expensive.

Darren Fanton
Hi @ryanboyling, Thank you for your review! One of the big features that sets us apart is that everything within ScreenSpace is fully customizable and rendered on the fly. Meaning, we don’t use pre-rendered footage and then simply place your product’s screen capture inside it. You are in complete control of everything - and when you click “Render Video”, your scene is created from scratch on our cloud render farm to your exact specifications. The advantage to doing things this way is that your videos come out looking like they were created by hand at a boutique visual effects agency. Every resource we use is the same we’d use when creating custom high-end videos for clients. The disadvantage to doing things this way is that it costs more money to run. Our technology (our cloud render farms, software, maintenance, etc) inherently takes more resources to build and maintain - since we’re not just using pre-rendered footage. With that said, the reason you don’t see customized 3D product videos too often is because (before ScreenSpace) they were wildly expensive and time consuming to make. Creating 30 seconds of hand-crafted, fully-rendered 3D device footage with a boutique visual effects agency can take weeks and cost thousands to produce (we know this because we previous ran a visual effects studio specializing in these types of videos). Our goal is to make these high-end product videos accessible to everyone - not just the big players. And at $5/second of video we’re confident we’ve done that. And our customers who come from a background of working with visual effects agencies (or working inside one) have agreed very strongly so far 🙂 However, this is just ScreenSpace v1.0 - and we’re constantly at work to figure out how we can bring costs down for users who don’t need the full “pro-level” customization ability we’ve built into it while maintaining our strict quality standards. For starters, just today we’ve introduced a new Unlimited Basic plan that gives unlimited renders at half the cost of our current Unlimited Pro plan. We’ve also been working with a number of start-ups & developers to build a plan that uses pre-rendered footage while still maintaining our “boutique agency” output - which will allow us to create an unlimited video plan that cuts prices dramatically if your needs aren’t highly custom. There’s even more in the pipeline - but all this to say, we’re hard at work creating plans that suit every need at different price points. I would also love to talk to you about your needs and budget so we can consider them in our upcoming releases. Please DM me on my PH profile page if you are interested. Cheers, Darren
Aidan Hornsby
Congrats on the launch guys! A great video was table stakes for Screenspace, but I have to say all the same — love it!
Darren Fanton
Thanks Aidan. Appreciate the post!
Joe Rhodes
@dfanton Congrats on launching such a polished 1.0! I really love easy-to-use timeline UI you have built for the product. Simple and straightforward. One question I had was around music and background tracks. Are music tracks something you all are considering down the road to be able to sync-up audio to pans and zooms? Thanks, this looks wonderful! :)
Darren Fanton
Hi Joe. After so many iterations and re-designs it feels like we are on version 15.0! If you embed audio tracks (music or VO) into your screen captures before uploading to ScreenSpace it will play back as you animate your scene. This allows you to time the animation to your pre-recorded audio tracks. Thanks for the post! 😊
Ajit Singh
Awesome, also loved your website, I wish I could make stuff for my app launch on 7th, unfortunately really low on dough. I'll refer to my friends though.
Darren Fanton
Hi Ajit. Please make sure you take advantage of the product hunt promo code PRODUCTHUNT so you can use a free render for your launch campaign. Good luck with your launch on the 7th!
Jason Mercer
Pro: awesome way to make slick app video. Con: Feel I wasted 3 years learning After Effects for nothing! now everyone else can have my super power. Drat.
Glenton Samuels
This is very overpriced, especially for its specific use case. $399/mo? How did they come up with that price? Clearly out of reach for most freelancers and small agencies. That's a hard sell especially in a world where something like Rotato exists for only $49 one-time purchase or $4.99/mo.
Kurt Krumme

It does the one thing it aims to very well, however for our needs having the screen be interactive as well is important. Great UI so far though.

Pros:

Great focus and ease of use

Cons:

Seems a bit pricey, but maybe that's just b/c I don't need this enough.

Nathan Murphy
this is dope.
Darren Fanton
Thanks, Nathan!

c'est excellent comment l'avoir ?
