Howdy hunters! If you're like me, you've been following Apple's latest hardware announcements closely, including the latest Mac Mini M1, a beast of a machine. The person I've always looked to for Apple insights is Yann, and his company Scaleway just released the first Mac Mini M1 as a service offering, which gives you the ability to spin up Big Sur natively on the fastest machine on the market, all for super cheap! If you're looking to play around with the Mac Mini or use it in production, this I'd definitely check it out - or at least watch their beautifully Parisian launch video!

Amazing! Congrats guys 👏🏻
Jon Gaudette
AWS forces you to buy a 24 hour block, does Scaleway also have that? I can't find the information anywhere on the site.
Yann LECHELLE
@jongaudette @liamboogar we only require the first 24h block, then it's by the hour. So you can rent 24, 25, 26, 27, 28hours and so on ;-)

@ylechelle Hi, congrats for the achieving! Are costs applied when machine is provisioned but stopped? In this case we're talking about a bare metal machine, not a virtual appliance, is it?
Yann LECHELLE
@manolinux Thanks :) it's the baremetal, no virtual machine, and no, there is no setup cost. There is however a minimum commitment of 24 hours.

Looks like an awesome product. Definitely want to get my hand on it!
Resh Wallaja
Is this a dedicated machine, each developer gets their own machine? I.e the device is not shared? Dedicated access is required for our audits & certification. Could you clarify if the Physical machine is shared or not. Thanks
Yann LECHELLE
@resh Hello Resh. Yes, you are correct. You get the whole machine. Not shared.

Curious about Scaleway's Apple M1 as-a-service or have questions? Join our AMA with CEO @ylechelle and President/Founder @abermingham on, Friday, February 5th at 9am Pacific / 6pm Paris on Clubhouse 👋🏻 https://www.joinclubhouse.com/ev...
Yann LECHELLE
@abermingham @ethanpierse Looking forward to it!

Apple silicon as-a-service will allow companies to subscribe to a remote Mac mini so teams can collaborate on projects. Its ARM-based M1 consumes 55% less energy than its previous Intel-based chips while delivering better performance.

0.10€/hr, but u can take ONLY 24 hr ((((, so real price is 2,4€/day ( !! As required by Apple License, you must keep this instance at least 24 hours. You will be able to delete it only after 24 hours.)
Yann LECHELLE
@saenkoav 2.4€/24h minimum indeed -- from the 25th hour, it's just an extra .1€/h with no commitment
Aaron O'Leary
This is pretty cool! Also a good way to mess around with one before committing to purchase!
Kevin
I was looking for this the other Day! Congrats on the launch!

What you're doing is awesome. Definitely the best Cloud service provider in Europe.

The video looks like a wink on the AWS one about the Mac mini (but Intel)
Yann LECHELLE
@bulcub Nice catch ;-)

Impressive achievement. Undercutting AWS is the evidence that "there must be another way". I have a MBA M1 and must confess the machine screams when it comes to handle heavy media. The beta version of Handbrake is a bliss... as is Pixelmator Pro. Eagerly waiting for the Topaz suite to be ported too !

I'm a happy customer over there, and have been for years. Best part is the slack channel where their engineering team is available for spot-help. Good luck!

This is the native M1 experience. It comes with a good deal of bandwidth so the remote desktop is buttery smooth. But above everything it's super cheap, like 0.10€/hr, compared to what aws charges ($1.083/hr). Let's hope they restock soon!
