Are you adjusting for number of crimes committed against population density in cities - not sure how you calculate your score now but it seems like areas with no people = safe vs. areas where lots of people live = dangerous
Pros:
Nice Interface
Cons:
Basically the whole of NY is danger level of 9+ - you're almost saying there's nowhere safe to live in big cities.
@oleg_avrah Oh cool I get that the severity of the crime is weighted but are the volume of crimes committed also weighted against the population density? i.e. 10 crimes of similar severity committed in a 1 square mile region of a pop density of 1000 vs. the same crimes in an area of a pop density of 5000.
Hi Oleg, How do you get this data? I searched for my old place in Washington Heights in NYC and apparently is 9.3 in danger level when that's nowhere near of reality. For me this map is just showing where minorities/latinos live and labeling them as dangerous.
@oleg_avrah Yes it has been. Been using that feature on Trulia for a while now. Not trying to say anything bad about your product. Just think it works best as a feature rather than a standalone product. You are also planning to launch other countries which will certainly make your app stand out. All the best!
Yeah, I see a lot of info in Detroit that just does not comport with reality. What is an “other” crime? I’m seeing streets that have new developments and are populated by yuppies and hipsters rated at 9.5 😬 Admittedly, it's got my DC neighborhood absolutely right at a 1 🤣
@oleg_avrah Did you post that article to underscore that Detroit is violent or to prove my point that the data being used is inaccurate and conclusions drawn from it (e.g., what people would ostensibly doing by using this app) are inherently flawed?
Per the FBI: "These rough rankings provide no insight into the numerous variables that mold crime in a particular town, city, county, state, tribal area, or region. Consequently, they lead to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses that often create misleading perceptions adversely affecting communities and their residents."
By way of that statement, the function of this app is contributing to the problem rather than solving it and/or rather than actually helping someone interested in finding a rental property to live in.
My original statement did not even go that far, I was just remarking on the fact that I see areas listed as "dangerous" which I know to not be dangerous (at least not a 9.5!) and that many of the "crimes" listed in the area, if not all of them, were categorized as "Other" and, thus, say nothing about the living situation on that block or in that neighborhood.
Hey there,
How does one get their place that is available to rent into the list? I saw one room was listed from airbnb, but I don't see my rooms in the interface even though they are on airbnb. Thanks!
@mdorsett Hi. Thank you for your interest. It takes some time to get new propositions from Airbnb. Usually it takes up to 24 hours. If you post your rooms earlier please wrote a link on your room in dm for me and our technical team will review that issue
