Hello Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Humberto, co-founder/ CEO at dashdash. Today we launch in open beta at https://dashdash.com !
In my years as a product manager I learned how valuable computation (websites, apps, tools, scripts) are to businesses. At the root, computation is made of components which can be summarized in a few simple actions: web requests, automation, number and text operations, etc. With dashdash, we set out to build a platform where anyone could finally use those functions to build their own tools.
We want you to create interactive web apps using the spreadsheet skills you already have.
🤔How do we make this happen?
👉A familiar user experience: We built dashdash to be a grid that builds on the spreadsheet skills that 1 billion people already have.
👉The best online services: Import data from online services and interact with any API. We have integrations for Slack, Google Maps, Google Search, SendGrid, Alpha Vantage, FullContact, and others. Generate leads, get data about people and companies, send emails, and more. All from inside a cell—no scripts needed.
👉Automated workflows: Set up function running every x minutes to automate your tasks.
We'd love to get some feedback and are happy to answer your questions. 🙏

Great question, @mike_seekwell
Sum-up: AirTable is very good, but generally more focused on being a CMS/ database. Dashdash is made for workflows with data and services.
Benefits you can have with dashdash that you can’t have in AirTable:
1. full versions of services and APIs. When you call a a function for an integration, you get the whole data (JSON) which can select via a simple click in our data explorer. Airtable has Blocks, which offer pre-chosen actions and data for the services; we also support more action types (SMS, email, slack, translate, CRM, directions, elevation, distance matrix, stock, etc), and you can easily use any service we haven’t integrated with via GET() and POST().
2. we also have a more flexible automation mode. You can refresh a cell, a range, or a whole sheet automatically, and from a simple function REPEAT(). On Airtable, you have nothing like this. It’s not made for automation.
3. @dashdash is based on the excel standard. Our cells and functions are 100% compatible with other spreadsheets like Gsheets and MS Excel (min, max, vlookup, if, etc). AirTable is a new proprietary tool: functions aren’t the same and they don’t work in the same way (they work for whole columns and not for cells). Also, not all elements of AirTable are programmatic, like Blocks. This means that they can’t be used like input and outputs of other parts of your workflow, and we find that limiting. We love spreadsheets for their infinite extensibility. That’s why each of our cells is like a mini-computer, living in your browser and in our powerful BE cloud.
4. I’d also add that AirTable is a bit more limited in terms of the amount of power you get - how many rows and columns and cells you can have.
This said, we find their App beautiful and useful to build databases of employee generated content - it’s an inspiring company. They also have a great API. We’re more about exposing the true power of data and services to non-engineers.
I hope this helps!!
@dashdash@hayrespereira Thanks for the detailed answer, this makes sense, good luck! And I agree on @airtable 's beauty, they've been an inspiration while we build our product.
@timokuilder@henrique_cruz Hi Henrique, like I said to Torben in private, it's an obvious bad plagiarism of Timo's work. I don't tolerate this and a lot of people in the maker community don't accept this kind of behaviour. The person will tell you it's fair to do this in startup world is just a total prick.
@henrique_cruz Your response to @timokuilder was an insult. What's there to explain? This isn't a matter of inspiration, the work was literally copied. A head from here, hair from there, objects from another… Take it down.
Hey @hayrespereira, @henrique_cruz and @torbschulz - congrats on the launch! I really love the simplicity of the integrations and REPEAT to automate the sheet. If you fix the little things in the UX, this will be an extremely great product 🙌
PS: Will i be able to collaborate with my team? 👨👩👧
@hayrespereira Oh, awesome. For UX, it would be sweet if you'd add some of the example use cases from your documentation into the product where the integrations are.
@gerhard_hanel we love spreadsheets for their “learned UI” and flexibility. We will be delivering more, simple, innovations soon!

1) Is there a list of all the functions?
2) Couldn't add cell references while building a formula through clicking as you normally would in Google Sheet, bug or feature to come?
Pros:
- Familiar cell-based interface with integrations and new functions
- Exporting data is a breeze =RANGE2JSON
- Happy to ditch GSheet scripts
Cons:
- Add templates of more complex apps
- Looking forward to more functions
Thanks!
1) There's a list of all functions in the Function Helper bar. You can access it from your app by clicking on the "?" icon in the top right corner and then on "Functions".
2) We'll have this fixed very soon. We want the UX to be fully like any spreadsheet.
Dashdash is the shit! 👍 been using it for a bit and its the easiest way to automate a lot of tedious or technical processes! looking forward for more integrations to make life even easier. 💥
I love the idea ever since I met Torben at Tech Crunch. The possibility to build my simple scripts without bothering my CTO is awesome. I see great application in automated lead generation.
I just wish the most used cases would be ready off the shelf and am not sure if I can get all api keys quickly that Dashdash may already have - I'd be open to a fee, if I could use them temporarily
@vaclav_jurcicek Thanks for your feedback! We already started offering some Integrations without need for own keys - such as Alpha Vantage and Email by dashdash. We will add more of these soon. Which services are you particularly interested in?
thanks @vaclav_jurcicek
We're precisely working to improve those 2 items:
- having more use cases (templates) off the shelf.
- allowing users to access integrations quickly, without needed to register their own APIs on different services!
Stay tuned!
I use dashdash to automatise recurring tasks throughout our Business Dev and Sales process. Over the past 10 months I stopped buying expensive sales leads and catch up with my customers much quicker. Besides being super easy to use, dashdash is worth it for saving money
Pros:
- Ready-to-use applications
- Integration with API of Google CSE, Clearbit, Twilio
- Pre-programed Excel functions to develop your own app
Cons:
- just waiting for the next batch of Excel functions to be released
Finally! No need to have multiple spreadsheets and dashboards and a painstaking collage of cells and formulas. Need to interact with some data outside of your spreadsheet, use simple API calls. Ingenious. Simple. Usable. Great work guys, keep on pushing!
While it might not seem at first that plagiarizing art is of great concern about a product that provides data, DashDash's ignoring of my comment (which was anonymously reported to Product Hunt), speaks volumes.
I would watch this company for ethics violations, as they have already committed at least one.
I've used dashdash to build an invoicing app that tracks accounts receivable. The App shoots an email (via sendgrid integration) to non-paying customers with some customized data:
- Invoices due for payment
- Deadline for payment
- Total amount due
In dashdash you start with a blank page. This is great, since it gives you maximum flexibility. But if it’s your first time using the product, you’d be better off with a couple of examples and uses cases before jumping into formulas. I'd love to see a template section organized by categories (marketing, finance, project management, legal, venture capital, ...)
Pros:
- The spreadshseet interface is very familiar (just like g sheets)
- The ability to call services from a cell
- Very easy to export data
Cons:
- Add function to drag formula and fill down cells (mouse)
- Add function to insert mul. rows/columns (mouse)
- Spreadsheet scrolls too fast
Thanks, André. We're working on the UX improvements you mentioned. Also, you can now use SEND_EMAIL by dashdash instead of the Sendgrid integration, if you want.
I have used dashdash for quiet a while now and am excited to see how the product develops. While in the beginning I replicated Google Sheets use cases on dashdash to test it, I now use dashdash whenever I know that I need many external intergations or recurring actions as these are painful with Apps Script. Keep up the good work, excited to see what's next.
Pros:
- replacing endless custom scripts in Google Sheets with simple formulas
- having all the functionality in a spreadhseet environment
Cons:
- collaboration and sharing to e.g. create interactive dashboards

I've been using it to track some crypto assets.
Pros:Friendly way to integrate with online services without technical knowledge. Great app to monitor and trigger things.
Cons:Some more integrations can be added. Ex: office 365 (planner)
This could be a very useful and complete tools with a few more feature additions which I am sure the team is already planning to work on/release
Pros:- The simplicity of streamlining actions and processes - Familiar excel-like interface - Integration possibilities
Cons:- Could you more functions and features that are often used on Gsheet - Lack of the possibility of collaboration
