Refined Twitter improves the Twitter experience by removing cruft and adding useful features.

Available for Chrome, Firefox, Opera.

Some of the best features are: Embedding linked Instagram photos directly in the tweet, syntax highlighting of code blocks, auto-loads new tweets in the stream if you're scrolled to the top, removes promoted tweets.

Oh my god, this is what I've needed my entire life. The perfect blend of Tweedeck and Twitter. @sindresorhus, kudos. This is a powerfully simple extension for any Twitter addict. You won't notice some of the tweaks at first (eg. auto-updating twitter feed, Instagram pictures automatically included, auto-formatted code, and more), but they're crazy powerful. Can't wait to tell everyone about this. 👏👏👏

I have previously built a very successful browser extension, Refined GitHub, that improves the GitHub experience. This time I want to make Twitter better. Why wait for a huge corporation to prioritize users when we can leave it in the hands of the amazing open source community! Hopefully, Twitter will notice and steal some of the ideas. Let me know about your pain-points with Twitter and how we can make it better for you.

@sindresorhus Been using Refined GitHub for some time. Time to give Refined Twitter a whirl! EDIT: Can we have an option to disable certain features like with Refined GitHub?

I did something similar https://www.producthunt.com/post... a while ago. Did it have the honor of being an inspiration for Refined Twitter? 🤔 Mine simply hides stuff, though. Refined Twitter does way more useful things. 😀 Cool product, will use! The improved scroll performance is my favorite feature! 🙌

Awesome, the first extension I've installed in a while. Great idea and exactly what I wanted. Just doesn't seem to work on my Firefox Quantum 60 anything I'm doing wrong @sindresorhus @bfred_it? I've installed the addon and made sure its activated..

Awesome extension, @sindresorhus! Really looking forward to trying it out. Would be awesome if it could somehow hide re-tweets from people and only show content that they actually wrote themselves. Do you think it's possible?
Arun
This is good, but one thing that bugs me - clicks outside of the popup modals (say messages modal) does not close that modal.
Sindre Sorhus
@arunsathiya Only the messages modal, and it’s to prevent you from accidentally clicking outside and lose what you were writing. A better solution might be to persist the message. See https://github.com/sindresorhus/...

Love the idea of this, but I’m wondering if there’s a way to turn on/off certain features? For example, I’d love to see Instagram photos populate, but I’d hate to cut out tweets that are liked by the people that I follow because that’s how I find new content. Any chance that’s possible?

Can I reduce the images size? I never use Twitter on the web because the images are too big and annoying.
Sindre Sorhus
@jitowix Do you mean the tweet image thumbnails? Open an issue, and we can consider making it an option if more people are interested in this.

If this allows me to finally see my first tweet at least 5 minutes later, I'll be the happiest cats on Twitter. Went to test it.

The enhancements are awesome. They do make the Twitter experience better. But removing promoted tweets? Not so much an enhancement as an assault on their revenue. If you follow that sort of thinking all the way through and everyone is using your extension and paying advertisers no longer have an audience, will there be a Twitter experience to improve? Someone has to fund that infrastructure. Just my 2 cents. I would find this extension valuable without the removal of Twitter's branding and revenue-generating features. The other features are the most valuable, imo. Seems like an abuse of the platform to me, when we all benefit from the massive ecosystem they've created but sabotage the engine that is paying for it. You know what I'm saying?

I'm a bit uncomfortable about apps like this removing ads / sponsored posts / etc. That's the primary revenue stream for a lot of services (including Twitter).

As an active social media user I liked straight link between twitter & instagram

Pros:

Link with instagram

Cons:

Don't think that other features are so useful

Fabri
Hey! Here are some features sugestions: 1) No repetead tweets from thee same source. 2) Be able to block tweets by keywords, maybe i dont want to know about a specific subject which may be very popular. Example: i dont want to read anything about Trump, so trump would be a keyword that if the tweet contains it, it should be hidden.
Andreas Stegmann
Nice. Please do something about the display of tweetstorms. I can't tolerate constantly looking where to read next.

twitter performance is perfect compared with other applications; this app is also an excellent beautiful application.

Any chance you can add support for hiding "liked" tweets in your timeline?
