How to not get banned when marketing effectively on Reddit?
For anyone who’s tried marketing on Reddit, how do you avoid getting banned while still getting real traction?
This is an issue I've seen so many creators face as they market on Reddit, especially initially as they start their journeys on there.
Personally, one thing I’ve found is that contributing value first and tailoring posts to each sub works way better than dropping links instantly but I think that's pretty generic.
Also, it feels a lot like walking a tightrope: curious how others are handling it. I’d love to hear any strategies you might have for staying on the good side of mods while actually driving signups successfully.

Just some thoughts - spend a lot of pre time warming up your account and building karma, so contributing and adding to subreddits with no motivation, makes your account more likely to get benefit of the doubt with mods. Check all community guidelines, some don’t allow self promotion or links, others ask you to declare it with a flair. Tailor the post to add value as well as talk about your product for example the five lessons from building or the unique customer insight you found when launching. Basically balance advertising with adding value to the readers!
@dbul 100% agree, just dropping links is a fast ticket to getting flagged. The best way, for sure, involves tailoring posts to each sub and mixing in actual insights feels like the only way to not get insta-banned. Warming up with karma definitely buys more room too.
I realize the subreddit is dependent on your specific audience, but are there subreddits that have given the most value to you?

@dheerajdotexe I made a forum post on p/meet-ting not long ago listing them all out, hopefully some there to try out!
Great question...even I'm searching for this answer.
@shashwat_ghosh_gtm Same here haha, feels like the game is just figuring it out as we go
I got banned more times than I can remember.
@rokbenko You've either never been banned or you've never tried Reddit
Reddit is a long term game where you need to work on initial Karma farming and working on profile building part. The initial interactions in the ideal groups have to be more generic and information providing. Once mods and people get used to your content and forget their agenda of banning anyone left, right and centre, then you may start trying subtle promotions without getting banned.
I have seen some mods not approving comments itself.
@bhargav5394 That's insightful, yeah it feels like it’s less about the product and more about slowly building trust with the community first. Mods can be brutal, so easing in with value makes sense. I wish they'd chill a little though haha
