10+ Years of React Starter Kit

Hey Product Hunt fam! 🚀

I'm thrilled to launch the latest evolution of React Starter Kit here on PH. I first open-sourced this back in 2014 on GitHub, right when React was exploding and everyone was figuring out Webpack. It became a go-to for devs wanting a quick start without the setup grind, and it's powered countless projects since.

What started as an isomorphic app (code sharing between client and server for better perf) has slimmed down to a lightweight SPA with smart server-side bits for meta tags and CSS. It's all about keeping things fast and simple.

Just dropped a major update in July – timed perfectly for where web dev is heading in 2025. I focused on tools that make building AI-powered apps a breeze, without the usual headaches. Here's the scoop:

  • AI-ready from day one: Baked-in integrations with top AI services. Want to add chat features, smart search, or personalized recs to your app? It's plug-and-play, so you can prototype and iterate without boilerplate battles.

  • Bun.js for speed: Ditched Node for Bun – it's lighter, faster builds, and handles high loads like a champ. I've seen noticeable wins in dev time and runtime efficiency on my own stuff.

  • Self-hosted auth done right: Say goodbye to Firebase or Clerk dependencies. This custom setup is secure, extensible, and includes team/org management – essential for SaaS builds where you need control over users and roles.

  • ShadCN UI + Tailwind CSS: Quick, beautiful interfaces without CSS overload. Pre-built components that are accessible and customizable, letting you focus on features over styling.

  • Terraform for infra: Define your cloud setup as code. Version it, automate deploys, and scale easily – no more manual console tinkering when your app takes off.

I've bootstrapped side gigs and client apps with this kit, and it's shaved off weeks of work. It's fully open source, so hack away, contribute, or just use it as a learning tool for modern stacks.

If you're a maker spinning up React projects – dashboards, tools, MVPs – this could be your new starting point. What's the biggest pain in your dev workflow lately? Auth woes? AI hurdles? Drop a comment, I'd love to chat and maybe fold in ideas for the next iteration.

Upvotes appreciated if this vibes with you! Let's build better apps together. 🔧

Cheers,
Konstantin Maker of React Starter Kit
